Review: It may seem weird that deviant disco champs par excellence Bahnsteig 23 are already toasting to their 50th release, but in truth their catalogue started at 23 so don't be fooled. Instead, just feast on another salvo of seedy body music from Ziggy, which leads in with the synth-soaked pump and thrust of Trance Gigolo before switching to the sassy 80s funk of Yo Let Her. Things are just as cool and deadly as the slap bass electro meanderings of Amfobia brew up a post-punk disco delight with a schlocky horror twist, and Freaky Leaches leaves things on an ominous note via a swampy trip through the mangroves with only a steady ticking rhythm section for company.

Review: There's something faithfully fuzzy about the Grimy Edits series. Clearly inspired by Rahaan's scalpel-heavy reworks and the crusty grooves of Theo Parrish's Ugly Edits series, there's a loose authenticity throughout that should appeal to crate-digging disco heads. "Who Can I Turn To" sets the tone, delivering a percussive rework of an unfamiliar lights-out, disco-soul anthem. It's an undeniably sweaty in that "shirts off" way that only a particular kind of disco can be. The faster "Freakin" brilliantly flits between heavy disco-funk breaks and the sharp strings of its source material, while "Keep On Running" rides a way of soaring horns, heavy percussion and breathless vocals.

Review: Grimy Edits stalwarts Zernell and Goodking are back with more re-workings of the soundtracks to long-lost disco nights. "Big Time" is a killer looped accelerator with slick guitar licks and female chanting. "Strivin" is ironically, more laid back with a swingin' slap groove that flowers into a lovely melodic chorus and finally "Get Down" ends things with an intense cowbells 'n' wah-wah funk guitar jam.

Zed Zeppelin's dub version of "Heartbreaker" is a refreshing disco take on the original, with its riffs still intact and rolling; "Stop Your Pressure" by MJJ takes Michael Jackson to a next level; J Hammond's "Fantasy" is a disco beauty; The Militia's version of "Roxanne" by Police moves those infamous vocals to new and interesting pastures; Timmy Tommy's "Live Together" is an devilish little monster that manages to fuel house with a crazy set of organs.

Review: You'd expect a collection of tracks from the likes of Rick Wade and Anton Zap on esteemed deep house imprint Shanti to be pretty nifty, and - predictably - it is. With five soft focus excursions to choose from, there's plenty to get excited about - not least Wade's contribution. "Sexy Rostov" is as smooth and silky as we've come to expect, with enough bottom end groove to please all but the most bass-obsessed rave urchins. Zap's "We Are Satisfied" is equally simmering, but the real revelation is "Marwencol" by the St Petersburg Disco Spin Club - an unfeasibly beautiful slice of slow house brilliance that boasts some particularly intricate piano arrangements.

Review: We've never thought of Men at Work's "Down Under" as a would-be Balearic classic, but then we're not tropically minded mash-up man Cayetano. Here, under his Yuriyuri alias, he re-casts the infamous '80s pop song as a gorgeous, sun-kissed chunk of cumbia-meets-reggae gorgeousness. It shouldn't work, of course, but it really does (thanks, largely, to the bagginess of the live instrumentation and Cayetano's smart production). The virtual flip features another unlikely mash-up/rework, as Aha's "Take On Me" becomes an accordion-heavy tropical groover. Again, it shouldn't work, but weirdly, it does. Ideal festival fodder, all told.

Review: East Midlands producer Ant Plate (he of Rhythm Plate and YSE fame) dons his lesser-known YSE Saint Laur'ant moniker for a second outing on Whiskey Disco (his first dropped in 2012). As you'd expect from someone with a such a rich history of joining the dots between deep house and disco, the Swimwear EP delivers a quartet of breezy, positive cuts that should suit DJs in both styles. There's some smooth, soul-flecked grooves in the shape of "Never Be", a brilliantly wide-eyed slo-mo chugger ("Forever Mind", complete with classic AOR vocal samples), a thrilling exercise in low-slung disco house dirtiness ("Bozwa Locks") and an hypnotic, slowly unfurling chunk of dreamy deepness with quirky blue-eyed soul samples ("Walked in the Room").

Review: Beards. Where'd they come from, eh? One minute it was all asymmetrical haircuts and 80s electro-pop, then the beards & disco brigade arrived. Well successful re-edit imprint Whiskey Disco proves that beards are still big and happening. YSE has a shady house music history but here displays his love of disco with four quality reworks. "Freeze Frame" is a vocoder-led slow building chant-a-long, "I Own The Boogie" is a deep and intense disco funker with killer basslines (both electronic and live), "Warm Wind Brewing" is a Fantasy Island/Love Boat romantic journey and "Here I Come Again" ends things with some raw disco seduction.

Review: With the Ladykillers EP being his third EP under the YSE Saint Laur'ant moniker, it seems that Ant Plate (Rhythm Plate/YSE) seems to be growing more and more accustomed to the guise. That's good news for us and fans of high quality laid back palm tree disco jams everywhere. There are four tracks here, each of which takes a different direction, from filtered slo-mo disco-house loops ("Ghetto Woman") to weirded out samples over hypnotic shuffles ("Psychodelic Woman"), but our fave is the breezy, disco-drenched yacht rock of "Crying Woman".

Review: In Plain Sight, Andy Blake's label dedicated to the more esoteric house sounds, finally lands in the digital realm - exclusive to Junodownload no less - and gets off to a fine start with the hitherto unknown YoungTEE at the helm. The first track, "Dr Chocolate" fuses the kind of oddball low-slung sounds and spoken-word samples that In Flagranti have been masters of for years, with jazzy keys and 808 cowbells which hint at a subtle Chicago influence. The classic house influence continues of "Perfect Model", which combines misty chords with an 80s pop groove, falsetto vocal sample and synth jam solo which comes across as alternate universe Michael Jackson track. As you'd expect from a label curated by Blake, it's house music, but not quite as you know it.

Review: Not to be confused with FWD's Youngsta, DDJs' Youngstar is also a veteran of the UK garage and grime sphere. In fact, this man has been doing it longer and his tunes have been firing up the scene since 2001. While he used to focus more exclusively on garage, this contemporary material is all about the grime bars and, as you'll be able to tell from the title, the bars are short but extremely effective. With eighteen cuts to choose from, this is the perfect material to use either as heavy DJ artillery, or for part-time vocalism if you're in the spittin' mood. One thing is for sure, though, this is A-class material from an underrated legend of the UK grime game.

Review: Absolutely no idea who Yo Momma So Phat might be or where he/she/they might come from, but they've come up with three very fine re-edits here. You're probably thinking Candi Staton didn't need messing with, admittedly, but only because you haven't yet heard the irresistible jazzy house swing of the Summer Soul Refix. Elsewhere, Earth Wind & Fire's 'System Of Survival' is reworked to devatastating effect on 'S.O.S' while Patrick Cowley/Sylvester's 'Do You Wanna Funk?' (1982) gets augmented with a snip from Del Tha Funkee Homosapien's 'Funk 'Em' (2004) and ends up an absolute killer as a result! Highly recommended.
