Review: Next up from Dominowe, a fabulous LP of futuristic electronic flavour, taking the title 'Umthakathi'. The project as a whole is a celebration of international dance music influences and colourful sonic arrangements, for the carnival-infused whistles of the opening track 'Vector', to the afrobeat influences drum stutters of 'Woza' and UK funky sounding melodies and rhythms of 'Welcome To Alkebulan'. The project plays out exceptionally well in the long play format, with all eight tracks adding something unique and refreshing to the recipe, making it a perfect soundtrack to your early evening. There are of course a couple of highlights, with 'Blu Ritual (Core Tribe)' being one of them, stacked with intense overlapping rhythmic displays and chanted vocal inputs, next to the Guitar mix of 'Amun', a more minimal sonic journey through subtle percussive rolls and progressive melodic infusion. Wonderful stuff from start to finish!
