Review: Yan Cook has enjoyed a remarkable rise to prominence over the past few years, releasing on Planet Rhythm, Ann Aimee and its mother label, Delsin. Dialogue sees him put out his first record on the revered Dutch label since 2014, this time as part of the Inertia series. It starts with the pounding, tunnelling groove of "Toucan", which makes the listener feel like they are hurtling blindfold down a mineshaft. "Puffin" is a stripped back, bleep-heavy minimal track, while on the title track, the Ukrainian producer drops brooding chords and tough, relentless drums. Closing track "Flamingo" sees Cook go deeper thanks to the use of mysterious synths, but the ticking percussion and pulsating rhythm ensure that it's tailored for the dance floor.
