This time around it's instalment #2 for the Afterparty series and it's an LP with more soul than God, honestly. The sultry piano riff of 'No One Can Hear You Read' will have you tingling with excitement; the dulcet American tones of T.R.A.C go perfectly with Macca & Loz Contreras' iconic sampling on 'Leaps & Bounds'; and 'Summer Dayz' by L-Side and Addiction is a pure funk roll out. Another impeccable V Recordings compilation out the way, then. Smashing stuff.

Review: Bass Friend is suited to the early morning sessions, when things start to go weird. The "Mix For Him" is based on a pared back rhythm and a twisted frequency-shifting bassline, but the killer element is the tripped out vocal sampling that menacingly intones 'I'm your bass friend / I'll do it to you again and again'. After that, none of the other versions are as out there. "Mix for Her" is more slamming and feeds off a searing acid ridd, while the Sneekers version is powered by dense, bleepy riffs. Only the Elektropusher version, with its distorted synths and noisy, glitch rhythms comes close to emulating the "Mix for Him" remix.

Review: It's been a whirlwind 12 months for DJ Seinfeld, who has gone from "unknown entity" to hyped producer in what seems like the blink of an eye. There's little doubt that this debut album on Lobster Fury will simply enhance his credentials further. It's a typically dusty and lo-fi affair, but far more positive in tone than your average crackly techno full-length. The Swedish producer makes extensive use of rubbery synth basslines, hazy R&B and pop vocal samples and the kind of production tricks more frequently found on disco-house and old US garage records (while, naturally, rarely sounding exactly like either style). In other words, the album is full of attractive, floor-friendly party techno for those who like their cuts fun and funky, rather than stern and severe.
