Review: Man like AKAS returns to Deep In The Jungle with a powerful homage to the foundations. 'Back 2 The Jungle' says it all... Laced with sharp bars from 2Shy MC and not shy of a few jazzy keys, it sets the scene for the whole collection where many highlights lurk, waiting to pounce out on you... 'Roller 98' will smother you with its swampy bassline swing, 'Bipolar Roller' will flatten you with its two-tone vocal energy while 'Turn It Around' is just a bouldering, smouldering ruiner that will still crush floors in 50 years time. Big up AKAS. Big up the foundations.
Review: The latest release on Illegal Alien's limited series is a spaced out techno album from Altrd Being aka Carlos Matamoros. The textured "Stop Thinking Change Settings" is a dreamy, dance floor-rooted track, while on "Adeliade", Matamoros goes off in a more dubbed out direction. While the tough kicks and steely percussion of "Endeavour" and "All The Love Gone Bad" both represent a tougher take on Altrd Being's sound, they still teem with atmospheric soundscapes. Meanwhile, "Good Work Pay It Forward" and "Tear Me Apart" both venture deeper into tough but experimental sounds courtesy of their rough drums and outer space synths, while "Think Forward Think Back" and "1998 QE2" both provide serene ambient outros to this impressive work.
