Review: The third single to be lifted from Kelis' distinctly earthy Food album on Ninja Tune finds the R&B giant getting yet another salvo of remixes, this time on the bluesy romper "Friday Fish Fry". Maribou State & Pedestrian team up to deliver a slow-burning simmerer that opens up a treat in the second half, and Rob Garza drops a neat and tidy house shuffler with delicate acid ruminations. Visionist then twists out a trademark oddball grime interpretation, while Darq E Freaker takes his own half step style into outer space for a starry eyed version. It's a real variety pack that features something unique to appeal to everyone.

Review: Given that it was her first album for four years, and thus a comeback of sorts, it was something of a surprise to see Kelis' recent LP drop on Ninja Tune. While Food is a fine set, there's little of the frosty, scratchy experimentalism you might expect from such a leftfield hook-up. Step forward Actress, who delivers a brilliantly icy, glacial, sparse and melodic take on recent single "Rumble". Kelis' howling vocal sounds surprisingly good atop Actress's immensely beautiful and melancholic backing track. The heavenly instrumental is included, too, for those moments when Kelis' urgent delivery is just a little too much to handle.

Review: Forget Blah-once or Schm-ihanna, Kelis has always been the coolest sci-fi R&B gal. From Caught Out There to Milkshake, Kelis was always about being about different and taking chances and, having sought solace from a vicious battle with her former label by training as a chef, she's doing it again with new album, Food. "Jerk Ribs" is the starters and is an unexpected slice of quality retro soul that really showcases Miss Rogers' seductive vocal talents. Remix highlights include Will Saul's quirky house take and Mount Kimble's stunning, tragedy-laced house version. Fresh!
