Review: Next up from the ever-ready sounds of Outline Audio, a potent new collection of dancefloor danger as they welcome the combined flavours of Illament alongside Creatures for four fiery originals. We begin with the twisted synthesiser slides and gnawing bass tweaks of 'Cold Guys', before taking a more stripped back direction on 'Airways', which fuses warbling LFO's with metallic drum taps for a fiery shelldown. Next, minimal madness on 'Harsh Terms', a sizzling soundscape of gnarly synth sounds and clicky percussion, with a flavourful remix of 'Airways' from Creatures providing a potent closing anthem. Awesome work!

Review: Squid goals: Creatures returns to Overview with three outstanding new originals. 'Squid March' sets the level with its minimal arrangement, groaning, creepy bassline and consistent sense of tension. 'Taboo' sees him laying down another stripped-back slapper as he links up with Metalheadz MC Visionobi for a stern sermon that touches on mental health before Philth joins the party for the ruffest jam of the collection - 'Love's Ghost'. Each track hitting a different spot and tickling a different corner of D&B's great big underbelly, the deal is sealed with a Molecular remix of a previous Creatures release 'Gonzo Transmission'. What a package. Squids in.

Review: Sealed with an X: Flexout Audio continue to celebrate 10 years of deep underground dynamics with label founder Bassi's curated X collection. Featuring cuts from all previous X instalments, plus the extras that all landed in the last few weeks, the 27-track strong set is a great snapshot of where both the label and underground drum & bass is at right now. If you're into that deep dark rumbling minimal futurist vibe then every track is a highlight but essentials include Visages immense 'Polarity Code', Sili's precision springer 'Gallop', the cosmic twisted synths of Wingz's 'Broken Path' and Wreckless's tense and sobering 'Don't Want To Forget How Your Voice Sounds'. Review: Following up a great release by Manchester's Data 3, Flexout Audio returns this week with the X4 compilation. Arkaik gets seriously subterranean on the neurofunk of "Boxed In", Creatures takes you directly to the darkside on their techstep jam "Audio Poetry" and GROUND go out all guns blazing on the stern steppa "Blueprints". Flexout Audio is an independent, underground drum and bass record label established in 2011 by Tom Bassi who still runs things to this day.

Review: Delta9 is an Italian label which has now firmly cemented its place at the forefront of the minimal drum & bass extravaganza. This single is a remix outing from Black Barrel and Quadrant & Iris, who are jumping behind the wheels for Jestah & Creautures and DOT. & Compiler. The result is a bitingly tight rendition of the originals, as Black Barrel blends croaking synth work with a simple, elegant and yet devastatingly effective bassline that ripples with funk and energy. The flip by Quadrant & Iris is rougher in tone but no less precise, as dripping acid-infused synths light the road ahead through a pitch of inky blackness. Brilliant.

Review: Flexout are absolutely one of the best labels in the scene right now, with a tendency to release devilishly smooth minimal flavours across a range of BPMs. Creatures has been getting about rececently with features on C.I.A and elsewhere, so it's good to see him graduate to a full Flexout EP, alongside Ill Truth and Zound. Track three, 'Hunters', is our pick of the bunch with a devastatingly fluid, sub-heavy bassline that breathes and ebbs through the mix in such a cool way. The drums are right on point and the entire tune just feels like a weapon in your hands. Ill Truth rack things up on 'Abstract' and this release just generally boots off from there.
