Floorplan

Detroit's techno titan, Robert Hood, has donned many personas throughout his illustrious career, from the industrial grit of Monobox to the ethereal soundscapes of the Vision. Yet, none shine quite as brightly as Floorplan, a project that began as his solo venture and blossomed into a vibrant family collaboration.
Floorplan first carved its path in the late '90s and early 2000s, showcasing Hood's mastery of deep, hypnotic grooves. After a brief pause, the project roared back to life in 2010, unleashing critically acclaimed albums like "Paradise" and "Victorious." Each release pushed the boundaries of techno, showcasing Hood's relentless innovation and unwavering dedication to the genre.
But 2016 marked a pivotal shift. Lyric, Hood's talented daughter, stepped onto the scene, her vibrant energy infusing Floorplan with a renewed dynamism. This father-daughter duo became a force to be reckoned with, their combined creative prowess injecting an undeniable freshness into the project's sound.
Lyric's musicality, nurtured by years of observing her father's mastery, added a soulful touch to Floorplan's signature techno thump. Together, they explored uncharted sonic territories, weaving gospel influences, soulful vocals, and driving rhythms into their tapestry of sound.
The result? Floorplan's evolution as a collaborative effort has yielded some of their most groundbreaking work yet. Each new release stands as a testament to their ever-evolving sound, their shared passion for pushing the boundaries of techno, and the undeniable power of creative synergy within a family.

Review: Luke Solomon's Classic Music Company welcomes a real legend to their ranks with Detroit Robert Hood under his Floorplan guise, which has more recently also included his daughter Lyric. The line-up may have expanded, but the sound remains the same - uplifting gospel house with a very real sense of spirit. 'Right There' has dusty hi hat ringlets and warm organ stabs over an endlessly shuffling beat that will get clubs in raptures. 'Holy Ghost' then gets a little more bouncy with piano-laced breakdowns, a body-moving bassline and and clipped vocal yelps bringing the energy.

Review: It seems to strange, in 2019, to think that Robert Hood was once best known for dark, pounding techno, such has been the success of his more house- and gospel-inspired Floorplan project in recent years. This third long-player finds the father-and-daughter duo in fine fettle, serving up 10 cuts that marry house and disco's sense of groove and musicality to the dancefloor energy that Hood learned during his Underground Resistance years, with wailing church organs helping to provide the album's standout moments on tracks like 'Dance Floor' and 'His Eye Is On The Sparrow'. An uptempo, genre-defying triumph.

Review: London distributor, PR/DJ agency and all-round nice guys EPM celebrate 10 years in business with a compilation that features some of electronic music's most respected names. Italo veteran Alexander Robotnick delivers the tear-jerking melodies of "Running About", while Rob Hood, working as Floorplan, delivers the looped disco meets Chicago house jack of "Move It". There is austere techno courtesy of Mark Broom and James Ruskin on the restrained, bleepy minimal "Merz" and Sandwell District's dub meets chilling strings workout "Live in Berlin", while RadioNasty drops the woozy bass and elector breaks of "Radio 3". All these contributions display EPM's flawless underground credentials, while they may have a mainstream club hit on their hands in the shape of the shimmering strings, plaintive keys and Ibiza-friendly groove of Marius's "Jet Set".
