Review: Well, the UK's Shifting Peaks have really gone and done it with this latest leviathan of a compilation, an anthology of their best and most wanted from 2010 until now. Inside, there's talent and plenty of club antics bouncing off the wall left, right and centre; with over fifty cuts there's enough to go around and satisfy a whole artillery of bass-heads. Some of the stand-outs for us are Tessela's "Yes You Can", Hackman's "Always", "Put You Down" by Odessa, and OM Unit's remix of "Reach Out" by Nphonix. What a belter,

Review: It's extraordinary to think that Ralph Lawson's 20:20 Vision imprint, now some 20 years old, is homing in on 300 releases. This 273rd missive comes from Lakosa and Rick Grant, who previously joined forces for outings on 2nd Drop and Tender Hooks. There's a decidedly murky, late night feel to opener "Dusk", whose main attraction is undoubtedly a mind-altering combination of relentless, low-slung acid bass and some decidedly deep and spacey chords. "Cascade" is deeper and slightly more melodious, with tumbling pianos and bubbling electronics riding a roughneck tech-house groove. Remixes come from Ejeca and Whitesquare, with the latter's ear pleasing, intelligent techno-influenced re-interpretation of "Cascade" particularly impressing.

Review: London-based Tender Hooks goes in for the kill on their second release, calling Lakosa and Rick Grant for beat duties - the former already having released on George Fitzgerald's ManMakeMusic. "Static" is an ice-cool house-techno hybrid with metallic percussion shots and a seriously killer collection of low-ends on top. "Temptations" is rawer and more minimalistic, where the driving pulse of the kick is accompanied by shredded snares and a lonely, wailing vocal. "Temptations" is re-touched by both Severn Beach, who adds in one of the wackiest FX-laden melodies we've heard in a while - making this the stand-out piece by a long shot - and Kornel Kovacs, who proceeds to add in a bit of early '90s rave juice thanks to a subtle influx of breaks and old-school vibes.

Review: Infinite Machine is Montreal's answer to Night Slugs or Dirtybird, where bass, house and techno meet, and for the label's twenty-first chapter, IO Sounds touches base once again on the imprint, along with Lakosa. Together they deliver a sweltering, sub-heavy interpretation of house, where "Livewire" amalgamates aspects of electro, tech-house and soundscapes reminiscent of ambient's sultry visions. "Got That Swag" is another house-bass hybrid, where the duo add sexy vocals to the beat's forceful swing. Infinite Machine delivering the goods once again...
