Review: Tomb Crew step into the limelight with their aggressively funky strain of house music on Four40 - a label most vividly known for their veritably UK approach. Title track, "The Sermon" is classic mashup of the highest calibre, with grizzly Jamaican vocals all-round and one belter of a bassline - watch the radio edit for an ever bumpier mixdown! "Wack Flues" is an instrumental of the same track, whilst Crown Duels put in a fine performance of the original - nutty low-end - along with Famous Emo and his grimed-out version and finally, Lucent's own vision - a monstrous, bass-driven squelcher! Hold tight, Serocee and Rubi Dan on the vocals!
Review: When it comes to bona fide garage MCs, Sparks is one of the top boys. His distinctive chatter helped "Fly Bi" become one of the UKG's most epoch-defining crossover tunes. For this authentic garage homage we find him going toe-to-toe with fellow mic luminaries Rubi Dan, Midas and many more, creating a sterling balance between nostalgia and future-thinking bass music. Remix-wise, label bosses Deekline & Ed Solo give it a modern day breakbeat reboot, Pure SX and Mutantbreakz add some cheeky slap bass into the mix and, last but definitely not least, Rennie Pilgrem does serious damage with a breakbeat tidal wave. Lift those shoulders now!
Review: Mutantbreakz are climbing up the breakbeat ladder with some serious focus right now, and hooking up with the distinctive spitter Rubi Dan is likely to take them several rungs higher. Rubi's flow is up there with the Ragga Twins and Million Dan in its clarity and party-hyping abilities, and the MB's funk-guitar-munching licks and sizzling bass complement his rapid chatter perfectly. If you're more in the line for some dirtier, electro-edged, chunky devastation then head to Kid Panel's remix. Heavy.
