Review: Auxiliary's first vinyl experience of 2015, the "Veil/Unveil" series returns with four stark visions of the future. ASC lights the touch paper with an 85BPM swagger jam, all sheet metal snares and creepy vocal shots and Synth Sense follows with a warped, squidgy bass journey into the darkest pastures of the fractured beat fields. Further on Sam KDC goes all sci-fi with heartbeat subs and a rising bassline that creeps up alleyway-style before Method One closes the show with a deeper, cosmic affair where the palpitating bass plays the consummate beat bedrock as scattered drums ooze in and out of the mix.

Review: Since the start of the pandemic, Auntie Flo has expanded his already broad musical horizons further, creating epic ambient pieces and further exploring his love of pan-global electronic/acoustic musical fusion. On Shruti Dances, he joins forces with Sarathy Korwar - a percussionist, producer and bandleader best-known for his 2016 debut album for Ninja Tune - on a six-track mini-album built around the distinctive rhythms and instrumentation of the Indian subcontinent. It's a mesmerising and frankly mind-altering affair, with the pair layering intoxicating drones, Sitar, tabla and other percussion instruments with effects-laden modular electronics, echoing synth sounds, and occasional nods towards house and UK bass. The results are densely drum-heavy, pleasingly immersive sound-wise, and very, very good. The constantly building 'Ni', for example, is little less than awe-inspiring in its weight and intensity.

Review: RVNG Intl's FRKWYS series continues to bring together like-minded artists from the past and present for a series of immaculate collaborations. Here, veteran British blues-folk guitarist Mike Cooper - whose first album dropped back in 1969 - and new school guitar virtuoso Steve Gunn join forces for an album of glistening, Portugal-inspired downtempo sketches. Touching on Americana, blues, British folk, Balearica and the classical Spanish guitar stylings of Pierre Bensusan and Isaac Guillory, Cantos de Lisboa is an evocative and engaging set that simply ripples with sun-kissed beauty. Highlights are plentiful, from the glistening brilliance of "Saudade Do Santos-o-Velho", to the fuzzy, string-laden experimental lo-fi stylings of "Song for Charlie".

Review: A highly original collaboration between Dasya and Stex on Young NRG, featuring a fascinating cover of The Rolling Stones' "Miss You" done via swooping Eastern strings and slow jazz beats. Elsewhere, there's the hectic IDM of "Baby Of Boss" which recalls 4Hero in their prime, the breaks/house hybrid of "Push The Funk", and even the chilled out string stabs scattered through the languid "Chill & Dub" mix of "Venice" to really get stuck into. A varied yet very accomplished collection.

Review: Last year, Jamal Moss in conjunction with percussionist and producer Sarathy Korwar (Ninja Tune/The Steve Reid Foundation) and the highly respected British saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings recorded a live and improvised session at the iconic Lightship95 studio, moored at Trinity Buoy Wharf, London. Two and a half hours of music was recorded across two sessions, with 90 minutes streamed live via NTS Radio. Technicolour now present a 12" EP comprising of four edits from these sessions titled 'Association For Research & Enlightenment Project'. The deep analogue tribalism of "The Doctrines Of Swedenborg" is truly magical and is geared for some real tunnelling effects. The lush ambience of "Dimensions Of Frequency & Vibrations" on the flip was a highlight too, awash in celestial synths and evocative saxophone solos, accompanied by Korwar's drumming reaching near tribal moments.

Review: When it comes to the term 'leftfield', there is no better place, no label more credible and worthy of praise than the USA's RVNG Int'l. Moreover, there's few labels out there who know how to piece together a standout collaboration, which is exactly what is going down here with this shared EP by electronic experimenter Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, and contemporary classical goddess Suzanne Ciani. The latter has been active since the early 1980's, so it's great to see a much younger artist collaborating with an artist who has so much of the right kind of experience. "A New Day" opens with a calm yet sparkly selection of atmospherics circling with the right amount of freedom around a glorious backdrop of soundscapes, and "Closed Circuit" evolves these sporadic sounds into a more concrete set of melodies driven by a clear rhythm. "Retrograde" is the most kinetic of the three, a warm, docile blur of electronics that sail to a subtle pace in mid-air. This is some truly impressive material, and it certainly comes tipped!
