Introspection
Introspection (Nick Curly remix) - (6:43) 124 BPM
Review: Audiojack decided to lose themselves in production during lockdown in order to escape from the daily reality of coronavirus, and Introspection is the first release from that period. It sees the UK pair team up with Polarbear, who delivers a fantastic stream of consciousness narrative about uncertainty and self-doubt over a linear rhythm and a bubbling bass. The label has tapped Nick Curly to remix "Introspection" and the German producer does a fine job, adding some airy synths to create a deeper and more atmospheric version. This is the first in a series of Audiojack releases recorded during lockdown - and "Introspection" has set a high bar.

Slow Deep Breath
Slow Deep Breath - (6:43) 123 BPM Hot
Alive - (7:17) 124 BPM
Review: More surefire, tough-rolling tech house for the main room, courtesy of the ever reliable Leeds-based powerhouse Gruuv once again. This time around they've reeled in Swiss veteran Dachshund, back after last year's Major Shift EP and following up some great tracks this year on Fantastic Friends and Sirion. "Slow Deep Breath" is a fitting title for what is one undeniably mesmerising track. With it's slinky melody, hypnotising pads and minimal beats, it will altogether cast its spell upon you - you can't go wrong with this one. There's more quality to follow that up, whether it's the dubby and glacial afterhours groove of "Alive" that tickles your fancy (quite reminiscent of his mid-'00s work) or the wonderfully exotic polyrhythms of "Meanwhile" could charm you instead - which reaches near tribal moments.

Right Side - (6:11) 124 BPM
Review: Romanian stalwart Mihai Popoviciu takes time out from his own Cyclic Records and follows up some impressive releases of late on Get Physical, Fantastic Friends and Berg Audio to serve up this nice three tracker for Audiojack's Gruuv Records. Get deep into the groove on "Somehow", a slinky acid-inflected number that would work a treat at the warm up or afterhours alike. Likewise, "Dublearic Rhythm" is just as mesmerising and proves yet again how the Romanians are the experts at crafting rolling and hypnotic tackle, while the bouncy and sensual mood music of "Right Side" closes out this terrific EP.

Review: The Modern Age (LUKINS / Get Physical Music) make their Gruuv debut, following up some great ones by Jay Shepheard, Los Cabra & Bebetta recently. This riveting new EP features the slinky and hypnotic late night tech house of "Wanderer" awash in shimmering melodies and backed by a tight rolling groove. Next up "Wall" brings the heat on this sublime and ethereal journey perfect for the warm-up and "Hill" provides for more reliable sonic narratives on this mesmerising prtogressive house styled cut. As an added bonus, the EP is backed by an lo-slung tribal/acid rework remix from Amsterdam's Olaf Stuut (Atomnation/Ki/Inner River) which we were absolutely impressed by.

Review: British deep house and nu-disco hero Jay Shepheard is more renowned for serving up underground grooves for the likes of Compost Black Label, Steaward and his own Retrofit imprint over the years. It comes as quite a surprise to see his latest EP come courtesy of Leeds/Ibiza based tech house heroes Gruuv. Shepheard is certainly up to task on this collection of great tracks that do not at all divert from his signature style. From the deep and groovy title track that's reminiscent of classics from his back catalogue such as "Pipes & Sneakers" or "Classic Reality" to the slinky and hypnotic late night disco of "Phaze 4" - which receives a thumping rework by label bosses Audiojack up next.

Dip Into A Dream (feat SOHMI - David Pher remix) - (7:00) 124 BPM
Review: Jake Lubell aka Lubelski is back on top Leeds label Gruuv, following up last year's Revolution EP and releases on Desert Hearts, Percomaniacs and SNOE. The tough rolling and funky tech house of "Dip Into A Dream" is a perfect fit for Audiojack's label, and the vocals on it are super sexy! This is followed by a wicked remix from fellow label regular David Pher, who takes the track into deeper and woozier territory - and is perfect for the warm-up or the afterhours alike. Second original offering "The More I Know, The Less I Know" (Original Mix) gets on it with a dirty acid driven bounce, that's sure to get the adrenaline levels up.

Review: London's James Dexter has had a great run of releases of late, appearing on top tech-house stables such as Little Helpers, Bondage Music and Poker Flat. While new his effort may come courtesy of Leeds based Gruuv label, he is certainly no stranger to them, having appeared on it last year with the terrfic "Mindstate". Dexter carries on doing what he does best on "Creature", a fierce bass-driven groove that shows are much more direct and in-your-face style by him yet, intoxiciating minimal house equally suited to the afterhours can be heard on "Renegade" and "Confusion" reaches neat tribal moments and is reminiscent of early 00's west coast tech house.

He follows up an impressive run of releases for other top labels such as Diynamic, Third Ear and Get Physica in 2018l. From the deep down and dirty late night groove of "As Within", through to the evocative and ethereal dancefloor drama of "So Without" - this ascendant DJ/producer has you sorted for surefire tackle already. Review: Known for his work on Crosstown Rebels, MadTech and Simma Black, among others, James Edwards AKA Made By Pete comes to the mighty Gruuv with a track that, in its original form, ain't nothing but a groove, centred around a cavernous, throbbing bassline, shakers and odd electronic parps, and topped with Penny F1's earnest, breathy vocal. Dave DK supplies a remix that takes us into deeper, tribal territory and that comes complete with a matching instrumental, while bonus cut 'Justify Your Move' completes the EP with a nod to late 80s Chicago.

Go With Me (original mix) - (7:24) 123 BPM
Got You (original mix) - (7:30) 124 BPM
Review: For their latest dancefloor bullet the mighty Gruuv recruit Hungary's James Cole (real name Janos Bozoki), who in 'Khumba' serves up a truly epic houser that starts out sounding Afro-tinged, as the title might lead you expect, before some classical-style piano heralds a turn for the proggy/melodic - a real journey of a tune. Jay Shepheard provides a slightly darker, bassier refix, while the EP's completed by two more original cuts: the bottom-heavy 4am NYC groove that is 'Go With Me', with its vaguely disconcerting spoken female vocal, and 'Got You', a concoction of tribal drums and 'Plastic Dreams'-ish synths.

On Your Mind - (7:17) 124 BPM
Review: Luuk Van Dijk is a rising star on The Netherlands' burgeoning tech-house scene and he presents the new banger for Leeds based powerhouse Gruuv. The Amsterdamer serves up three funked-up main room bangrs on The Pusher EP, with the title track's tough rolling attitude being just perfect to light up the main-room before peak time. Speaking of the peak time, that's exactly what he has in mind on the heaving acid express of "Acid Trip" which will appeal to fans of the Drumcode sound. Finally, he gets back to the program on the moody backroom dub of "On Your Mind" - a dubby DJ tool that will suit heads down moments on dance floors as far as The White Isle and beyond.

Big Boy
Big Boy (original mix) - (7:14) 124 BPM Hot
Review: Stuttgart's Ninetoes continues on with his musical winning streak, with a killer for Leeds based Gruuv. Rest assured that this is a tough and rolling affair for the main room, but they can trust the DJ on this one. After all, he's had releases on top labels such as Saved, Mobilee, Toolroom, Snatch and Noir to name but a few. The shuffling and sleazy boompty bounce of "Big Boy" gets followed up by a sick remix by Italian legend Davide Squillace - which injects more peak time power into proceedings, complete with some big drops and even some Caribbean style steel drums for good measure! Finally "Drip Trip" (original mix) takes things down a deeper, minimal and hypnotic path - this proper heads down groove reaches near tribal moments and is perfect to take the crowd into the late night.

Tzom (original mix) - (6:44) 120 BPM
Review: With releases for Toy Tonics, 20:20 Vision and Defected's DFTD offshoot under his belt already, Maurice Uzzan AKA Whitesquare is clearly a producer on the rise. The Masquerade, his first outing on Gruuv, should enhance his reputation further. Certainly, you'll struggle to find a breezier and more melodious deep house cut Solivagent, where Kalimba style synthesizer melodies and rich hand percussion hits rise above a warm and groovy backing track. Pezzner's accompanying remix, which makes more of the fluid Kalimba style lines while taking the track further towards hazy deep house territory, is also rather impressive. Elsewhere, "Makgeolli" sounds like a meandering, liquid deep house take on an early Ame favourite, while "Tsom" is a glassy-eyed saunter through revivalist dream house pastures.

I Think So (Mihai Popoviciu remix) - (6:58) 124 BPM Hot
That's Life (original mix) - (7:13) 124 BPM
Review: Trust Leeds lads Audiojack and their ever reliable Gruuv imprint for main room tech house for the peak time. This time they have tapped London's James Dexter: who has had a prolific run with releases on top labels such as Rebellion, Dessous/Poker Flat, in addition to running the Inermu imprint. The druggy afterhours minimal of "I Think So" proves that Dexter has his own sound - something that first caught our attention with his standout release in 2017 on Little Helpers. There's certainly more of that on offer here, but the remix up next by Romanian tech house expert Mihai Popoviciu adds more attitude to it- his rendition taking it down a more dubby and tribal route. The boompty business of "Mindstate" features a familiar vocal hook from a certain US classic while the bold and sexy mood lighting of "That's Life" likewise closes out proceedings in style.

Revolving
Recollecting - (6:36) 124 BPM
Review: Right On is a 20 year old DJ and producer from Aachen, Germany. He presents his new killer courtesy of Gruuv, the label by Leeds favourite sons Audiojack. He is also releasing on Sincopat, Zoo:Technique and Brise Records. While the Summer season on The Island might be finished, there's no doubt these main room weapons will be detonating dancefloors throughout the UK for some time to come. "Revolving" is typical Gruuv faire: rolling, bass driven and druggy: the morphing bassline on this one is utterly mental! Next up is "Recollecting" which gets a bit more dubby and minimal: perfect mood lighting for the warm- up for morning set alike. Finally he serves up one more banger in the form of "Once The Dust Has Settled" a darkly emotive thriller with throbbing bass and swing fuelled rhythms.

Review: DJ duo Audiojack return to their Gruuv label with a killer house release. The title track is a classic deep affair; based on a wiry but driving rhythm and rasping percussion, it features sensuous melodies and a ponderous, seductive female vocal. "On The Road" is closer in sound to classic 20/20 Vision, with the pair deploying a detuned riff and an organ sequence over a tough, driving rhythm. Reset Robot turns "Senses" into a deep techno track, with chiming chords and a linear groove underpinning the original version's vocal sample, while on the Dubspeeka version of the same track, a more understated, stripped back approach prevails.

Review: Secondcity is back following up a bunch of wicked releases on Nic Fanciulli's Saved as well as DFTD with this fresh EP for current tech house masters Gruuv. Here he teams up with Sonny Rooney aka Solarris for the adrenalised and emotive dancefloor drama of "Bridgewater" featuring some razor-sharp arpeggios, emotive strings and a tightly programmed groove: everything you need right here! Label head honchos Audiojack step in to deliver a remix which streamlines the groove in more rolling fashion (as always!) without deviating too much from the original. Finally, Cologne's Jonathan Kaspar (Pets Recordings/KX/Objektivity) steps up to deliver a much deeper rendition which we really enjoyed and will appeal to fans of stuff on Crosstown Rebels or Moodmusic.

Review: Having built a reputation via much-played releases on Get Physical and Defected, Flashmob rushes from the shadows with his first release in over a year. Leading from the front, smartphone in hand, is "Switch" - a tasty deep house bumper full of cyclical, minor key riffs, extended builds-ups, and chunky drums. That's given a foreboding, late night tech-house touch-up by Hobo, before the Italian producer delivers the jazzy, off-kilter deep house shuffle of "Moaning". He rounds off the EP in bombastic style, via the DJ Sneak influenced, big room-friendly, Chicago-style jazziness of "My Instinkt". With its' church organ lines and booming bottom end, it may well be the EP's strongest moment.

Review: Swiss DJ Mirco Caruso has slowly honed his craft on a variety of digital imprints in the last few years such as Southpark Records, Old School Department and Haus22. But it seems he's really about to hit the big time now if this release on Audiojack's highly lauded Gruuv imprint is anything to go by. Title track "Right Here" will hit you right between the eyes with maximum impact, right after the massive, druggy drop, of course. The funky peak time tech-house for heaving Ibiza dancefloors continues on "Metro Mode" (featuring another massive drop that's too good to put into words) and finally "Boxx" is bumping, rolling and jacking enough to transition to or from the peak time, complete with subtle dub stabs and pitch shifted vocals.

Review: Berlin's David Pher has appeared previously on Rebellion, Material and Deeperfect but now serves up some surefire dancefloor artillery for Audiojack's always exciting Gruuv imprint. "The Observer" is funky, stripped and rolling minimal/tech house that will appeal to fans of Jamie Jones or recent Apollonia releases. "Maravillosa" injects some latin flair into it plus getting a bit more uptempo with its tightly programmed rhythm. It also gets a tough and gutsy remix by Kevin Over (VIVa/Truesoul) which will come in handy when you're playing the peak time opposed to the afterhour.

Review: Kings of Leeds and The White Isle alike are back on their notorious Gruuv imprint (where else?) and throwing down some of the most well executed and surefire tech house you'll ever hear. Starting out with the very sleek and dark slow burner "Manipulate" it then gets a remix by Systematic head honcho Marc Romboy, whose "Devilfish Attack" remix does exactly what it says on the tin: truly gutsy 303 business for freaks on this one. "Bonafide" is more for the daytime, this one is funky, summery and sexy and expect to be hearing a lot of this one too. The remix by Sante goes more for the classic 90's U.S. house vibe and a nice touch in all its dusty and shuffling glory.

Review: Gruuv's back everyone; look out! Just when you thought they'd be taking a breather after their five year anniversary celebrations... Nope! They're straight back in and truth be told; we're lovin' it. Fronting for the team this time is Paul C and Paolo Martini with "Striptease" and yes; it's sleazy alright! Rolling, trippy tech house that you've come to know from the label of late, made for sweaty nights on the island. The vibe continues on "Moonbootz" which is a bit deeper, funkier and working that exotic percussion just superbly. Finally "Deluxe" goes full throttle on this peak time stomper which zaps, delays and shuffles all about the shop, complete with wacky pitch shifted vocals.
