Review: It seems as if 15 years have just flown by since Berlin institution Watergate first opened their doors at the base of the famous Oberbaumbrucke, overlooking the River Spree and where long queues run down the street every weekend to get into one of the best clubs in the world. To celebrate their journey over the last decade and a half, they have put together a special anniversary release of 25 new, exclusive and formerly unreleased tracks. Residents of the superclub all appear, such as Hamburg native Matthias Meyer who teams up with Ryan Davis on the evocative "Hope", famed local duo Tiefschwarz deliver the slow burning and moody tech house of "Control", Sweden's La Fleur (of Power Plant fame) delivers the acidic bump and shuffle of "Femton" and former Stattbad resident and Beste Modus boss Cinthie gets deep on the classic house sound of "Hatschi Hatschi" which has a whole heap of swing to it!

Over the last decade, the imprint has set a standard for captivating electronic music from across the house and techno spectrum, successfully mirroring the club's booking policy. Review: A split/collaborative EP from Watergate this one, with 'Montserrat' credited to WhoMadeWho but presented in Artbat Edit form, while 'Closer' is credited to Artbat but has WhoMadeWho as a featured artist. The former is a broody, moody affair in which a muted, percussive intro is slowly joined by atmospheric synth drones, simple 4/4s and a walking bassline, before risers and other synth sounds pave the way for the electric geetar solo that provides the track's real USP, accompanied by a plainitive male vocal. 'Closer', meanwhile, sticks more closely to the European "melodic house plus indie-style vox" formula of recent years.

Review: As Summer peaks, Berlin clubbing institution Watergate brings you the brand new series where standout tracks from their discography are remixed by some of their favourite artists. Kicking off the first instalment we have Matthias Meyer and Jimi Jules stepping up to deliver their twist on two big tunes from heavy-hitters Butch and Henrik Schwarz. First up is Meyer's remix of Butch's "Shahrzad", where he dishes out a truly timeless piece of dancefloor euphoria. Flexing his darker technoid muscles, both "Gameovr" and "Trigonometry" are proud late night stampers that twist, weave, spell-bind and hammer in equal measures. The latter is exceptionally spellbinding thanks to its epic 10+ minute weave. Review: Facilitated by the label arm of Berlin club Watergate, this release sees two of Europe's most talented production acts lock horns. First up, Hamburg duo Adana Twins remix Baumel's "Roar", which originally appeared ten years ago on Get Physical. At the time of its original release, the track received a lot of attention due to the absence of a kick drum and the way that its looped metallic sound gradually intensified. In the Twins' hands, this experimental piece of music is turned into a moody, pulsating affair with echoes of ebm. A similarly menacing aesthetic is audible on the Adana Twins's original track, "Aufstand Der Massen". Its linear, heads-down rhythm is augmented by a siren wailing in the background, lending an epic edge to the arrangement.

Review: Watergate Affairs is a brand new music series from the Berlin superclub. Music will be featured by residents or regulars who have become closely affiliated with the club over the recent years. Moreover, these handpicked artists will "perfectly display the sound of Watergate". First up is Zurich's Jimi Jules who presents us with the dark journey track "1.6%" with that buzzy, wonky synth lead and mysterious atmosphere: Life & Death eat your heart out. Berlin legend Lee Jones, the British ex-pat who you may remember for his collaboration with Nick Hoppner as My My is back with "Fraction Disco (Metro edit)" a sexy and bouncy tech house workout that is guaranteed for hands in the air moments. But it's their most well known resident La Fleur who really impresses with "Waves" where the Swede gives us a driving and emotional journey track with a humming sub bass and tight rhythm that you could imagine setting off a frenzy at peak time on that killer sound system.

Review: For their next release, Berlin institution Watergate welcomes back two of Hamburg's finest: Adana Twins. Last seen on the label's last compilation, the duo returns with a bunch of stunners which the label itself best describe as 'low slung, infectious cuts blurring the lines between house and techno' and truly showcase the signature sounds of these two Harbour City heroes. The original version of "Flower Of Cane" sees the duo follow their darkest route into the abyss yet on this druggy and heaving main room groove that follows in the tradition of classic Reude Hagelstein or even local legends like Stephan Bodzin. "Ortus" is an adrenalised exercise in mood lighting which is perfect to make a transition with its elevating EBM style bassline. The third offering "Relentless" (feat Jeppe Kjellberg of Danish electro-poppers Whomadewho) offers yet more quality, but if you ask us: it's all about Andre Lodemann's vocal mix, which is so incredibly dreamy and evocative as always.

Review: Since their label debut in 2017 with "Flower of Cane", Hamburg heroes Adana Twins have become staples of the Watergate institution. From being handed over the reins on the 25th edition in their esteemed mix series to playing regularly at the club, the duo deliver the goods once again on their new offering. The Curve EP features the brooding dark disco epic that is the title track, the rather dystopian "Cyrus" with its bass heavy electro beats, and the neon-lit aesthetic of closing cut "Nimbus" calling to mind the heady days of early noughties electroclash.

Review: Extrawelt follow recent releases on Traum and Furthur Electronix with this EP for Watergate. Recorded in one take, this raw three-tracker touches on elements of trance, techno and break beat to create unique fusions. "Alpha & Oma" resound to a throbbing bass and a series of spine-tingling synth builds. In contrast, "Email Auf Klinke" is more stripped back and rugged, built on punchy, rolling drums - remaining true to Extrawelt's approach it also contains the occasional sliver of trance melody. "Automatik" closes out the release in a more haunting mood; resounding to a niggling acid bass, cinematic synth scapes lend it a truly mysterious feeling.

Review: Since breaking out back in 2010, Sanna La Fleur Engdahl has switched between her own label, Power Plant, and home city imprint Watergate. Here she makes her first appearance on the Berlin imprint for two years. "Devil Sigh", where delay-laden, dub-wise vocal snippets ricochet around aggressive, end-of-days stabs, alien electronics and a driving rhythm track, is our pick of the bunch, though the woozier and more positive - nay, impressively glassy-eyed - title track is also rather good. Rush-inducing, shirt-removing thrills are provided by Tuff City Kids, whose piano-laden, hands-in-the-air rub of "Devil Sigh" sounds like a future anthem.

Review: Originally featured on their celebratory XV compilation back in 2017, Berlin clubbing institution Watergate have reissued one of the the standout tracks here by Hamburg hero Matthias Meyer and Berlin's Sebastian Waack aka Ryan Davis. The track "Hope" in its original form was a lush and hypnotic drifter, geared for some life-affirming moments on the dancefloor. The rework featured here by Bedrock head honchos John Digweed & Nick Muir takes the track into much more adrenalised and tunnelling territory, with its trance arpeggios and tight rhythm arrangement making for great dancefloor dynamics - but the breathtaking orchestral arrangements of the original are left intact. New track "Love Letters From Sicily" could equally have had a home on All Day I Dream - its ethereal daydream qualities make it perfect for a Sunday afternoon rooftop party downtown.

Review: Fur Coat have enjoyed a meteoric rise over the past few years, releasing on labels like Bpitch, Hot Creations and Crosstown Rebels, with Damian Lazarus' label also putting out their debut album. The Venezuelan pair's latest record is on Watergate and showcases again their sleek, clubby sound. The title track revolves around a tone-shifitng bass and hissing percussion and these elements combine for a heads-down, late night sound. "Desire of Mine", which features Delhia De France provide some breathy vocals, resonates to blustery synths and has a more epic feeling to it. Changing tact, Watergate has commissioned Ruede Hagelstein to deliver a tripped out, minimal house take that is sure to hypnotise the Berlin club's main room.

Review: The fourth EP by Swedish DJ La Fleur on Watergate follows the same kind of late-night heads down approach that charcterised her previous releases. "Bloomer" is led by an acid-soaked groove, out-there vocals and a warbling rhythm. On "Longevity", she seamlessly traverses the world of minimal while remaining rooted in Chicago house with a combination of outer-space bleeps and tones unfolding over a stripped back, metallic groove. Review: Following on from last year's Flower of Cane EP, Hamburg house duo Adana Twins return to Watergate. The title track is subtle but effective and austere-sounding but also uplifting. It chugs along to a solid groove and features eerie synths that build and build thanks to some effective filtering - and is exactly the type of track one would expect to hear at the feted Berlin club. On the flip side, "Sequence 01" is centred on a different approach. While its groove is also linear, it is powered by a pulsation bass and the kind of evocative, crystalline hooks that sound like the modern embodiment of classic German trance.

You'll find two versions of 'Fluminesse', both created alongside Volen Sentir and Lost Desert: a wonderfully atmospheric, bass-heavy 'Dub' mix full of sustained string sounds, ambient pads and starry melodies, and a vocal-sporting '12" Version' that takes the track to even higher, more uplifting heights. Elsewhere, Lost Desert lends a hand on three other cuts: the billowing, soul-flecked deep house/tech-house fusion of 'Ocean', the Isolee-inspired 'Night Walk' (think 'Beau Mot Plage' re-made for 2022) and the deeper, dubbier and hazier 'Covered in White'.

Review: Zurich based DJ and producer Jimi Jules is one of the most promising upcoming artists within the international underground. With previous releases on top labels like Superfriends, Cocoon and local imprint Zukunft - he tops all that by being picked as selector for esteemed Berlin institution Watergate's 24th mix album. Mysterious dancefloor drama is guaranteed on the deep and moody acid trip entitled "Abandoned Soul" (his contribution to the mix) which receives a brooding and epic rework by Plangent main man Recondite - taking the track deeper into the late night when the strobe light and smoke machine will accompany it just perfectly. Closing track "Othervision" is a soulful and slo-mo tech house cut, that's perfect to lead into the morning hours just before the lights come on.

Review: Hanseatic hero and Watergate stalwart Matthias Meyer rounds up some ascendant debutants here, on the fourth instalment of the 'Watergate Affairs' series - for the Berlin superclub's in-house label. There are a variety of moods and grooves on offer: melodic dancefloor drama comes courtesy of Dutch wunderkind Budakid (Last Night On Earth/Einmusika) on the mesmerising "Orrery", as well as from London/Munich connection Henri Bergmann & Julian Wassermann on the particularly impressive "Maenad". Elsewhere, Meyer himself is on-point as always with the glassy-eyed and bittersweet feel of "Interlude", until Danish artist Nandu rounds out the package with the slinky and evocative deep house of "My Mystery Is A Mystery".

Review: Berlin-based Polish duo Catz 'n Dogz return to Watergate Records, this time collaborating with Mexico's Theus Mago of Duro Records fame. As expected, there's dark disco vibes abound; like on the tunnelling late-night chug of opening cut "Understand", or the hypnotising main room stomper "Fly" which is sure to have crossover appeal, and the elvating energy of "Intuicion" with its razor sharp and multi-layered arpeggios that are equally sure to set off the main room.

Review: As stated previously, Hamburg house hero Matthias Meyer presented the 20th edition of Berlin super club Watergate's acclaimed mix series and several exclusive tracks he premiered for the mix are now finally available individually. On the second volume he serves up "Turgoyakk" by Russian up and comer Gorje Hewek; a stunningly gorgeous deep house excursion with dark elements that has just the right amounts of suspense and drama to captivate the world's dancefloors at present. Next up Frenchman via Sydney via Berlin YokoO teams up with Retza on "Satori", which has a bit more energy and bump in its groove but still focuses on dreamy and mesmerising elements. That string section that comes in around the two minute mark is just brilliant.

Review: Meet Hyenah, one of the main residents at Berlin clubbing institution Watergate's quickly growing Afro House focused event RISE. It was long overdue to see him land his debut EP on their label. The mysterious, masked crusader delivers a stellar package of percussion heavy, hypnotic and permanently growing cuts that will surely set any dancefloor on fire. Beginning in collaboration with Pablo Fierro on the passionately evocative rhythms of "Panoramica", and followed by the hi-tech afro soul "The Golden Cage Of Yesterday" which is sure to get those mysterious vibes in effect on the dancefloor.

Review: Ruede Hagelstein's "Footprints" was an instant hit when it hit our charts earlier this year, but we would never expect anything less from both this exciting newcomer and Berlin's mythical Watergate label. This time, however, he's joined by a number of different producers for a remix frenzy of his popular tune, and it starts with The Drifter's summery, dubbed-out version that is simply magnetic. Hagelstein drops a remix of his own tune, too, and it's an all-out hypnotic affair with full steam ahead on the minimalism, whereas Can Love Be Synth drop a beautiful glow of romanticism and '80s flair on their version. The dub, as you'd expect, takes the original to a moodier, more beat-heavy terrain.

Review: Hot on the heels of the Watergate 26 mix, this split release showcases some of the best tracks that were included on WhoMadeWho's selection. The storied Danish trio hook up with Ruede Hagelstein to deliver a slinky, melancholic take on Bjork's "Violently Happy". Working together with Justin Evans, Hagelstein delves into a more moody take on house music with his percussive "Love Over Pyramids", which threatens but never quite manages to spiral out of control. Overall however, this is a melodic EP, as evidenced by WhoMadeWho's mesmerising rework of Alex Schaufel's "The Day Of Rebirth", a wide-eyed, dreamy affair that shimmers and soars effortlessly

Review: Upon You founder Marco Resmann hooks up with Deep Aztec and Black Soda for this deeply soulful release. The title track accurately sums up the shift by minimal producers into deep and vocal house variations, as hypnotic vocals weave their way through the arrangement, underpinned by a throbbing, pulsing bass. There's a similar aesthetic at play on "Abadala", with Deep Aztec's high pitched tones fused with Resmann's tribal beats. Watergate has drafted in Oliver Huntemann to rework the "Babylon Side", turning it into a powerful and somewhat menacing big room number, while Resmann himself also provides a remix - putting a focus on a grainy bass and chopping up the original vocals.

Review: RISE Music main man Hyenah is becoming something of a go-to producer for Berlin's Watergate Records. This four-track missive marks the producer's third EP for the imprint in as many years and easily lives up to the promise of its predecessors. Perhaps the highlight of an all-round excellent EP is title track 'Once a Man', an intoxicating, undulating slab of winding, Afro-tinged tech-house goodness that boasts evocative spoken word vocals from Aquarius Heaven, stirring synth-strings and slowly flowering electronic melodies. The EP's other calling card is 'The Greed', a deep house flavoured chunk of early morning hedonism that Nandu subsequently turns into a hypnotic, sunrise-ready, deep-tech shuffler. Throw in pleasingly positive opener 'Words of Love' and you have a genuinely fault-free EP.
