Review: Abracada are bang on the money this year - in the realms of discofied danceteria the Gallic imprint has dropped no less than three essential releases in 2010 anddistinctly balearic tinged dance music since their Diva Edits dropped on Mindless Boogie last summer. Remixes guess what - number four is just as good. The Belgian trio that make up Villa have been impressing with their for everyone from the risible Ali Love to NYC duo The Golden Filter have followed and got big support from Erol Alkan et al. 'Beats of Love' is essentially a chugging slo mo disco burner cover of the 1984 one hit wonder by compatriots Nacht Und Nebel. What really sets it apart is Villa enlisting the breathy vocal talents of The New Sins aka the swoonworthy Lou Hayter (NYPC). No remixes here - just a nice dubbed out version which concentrates on the groove.

Review: As ever, the Bomb Strikes imprint delivers an awesome package to us with this brand new 25 track compilation entitled 'Funk N' Beats Vol. 5', To be honest, it's exactly what it says on the tin as The Allergies head up waves and waves of funkadelic rhythms and crunchy riffs. For us the highlights have to be the futuristic drum processing and subtle percussive movements of 'Loose Gardner' from Flevans, along with the classic breakbeat fusion of 'Fire' remixed by Smoove but originally produced by the Renegades Of Jazz. With the sheer depth of the project it's easy to get lost within the tracklisting, which is always a good sign on a large scale compilation.

Review: Ten years ago, Eskimo Recordings emerged from Ghent, as an outlet for mix albums from hometown heroes the Glimmers. Since then, the label has gone on to be a leading light on the nu-disco and nu Balearic scenes. Fittingly, this expansive tenth anniversary set was put together by the Glimmers, and features two solo DJ mixes featuring label highlights aplenty. For DJs, the real bonus is the huge selection of unmixed tracks on display, which adeptly showcases the depth and variety of the label's output. Highlights are plentiful, from the woozy Scandolearic vibes of Lindstrom & Prins Thomas and brilliance of early Aeroplane, to the sun-bright dream pop of Hiem, and the bouncing dancefloor groovery of LHAS Inc.

Review: Some 10 years on from the release of their fine debut album, Hot Damn, the Haggis Horns return with their fourth full-length. The much-loved outfit's line-up has changed a lot over the years, but their ability to craft punchy, sun-kissed fusions of funk, soul and disco remains in tact. This time round, you'll find a wealth of vocal tracks featuring regular live vocalists John McCallum and Lucinda Slim, as well as a couple of cuts boasting the on-point UK rap of MC-turned-actor Doc Brown (see the Jurassic 5 and Breakestra style goodness of "Take it Back" and lilting brilliance of the more considered "What's It All About?"). Elsewhere, the expansive outfit joins the dots between Herbie Hancock and Sly Stone on "All Fuzzed Up" and does a superb impression of Icognito on "Gonna Be Alright".
