Review: Valique's V's Edits reworks have long been some of the most popular re-edits on this platform, with DJs responding not only to their floor-friendly nature but also the wide range of sounds and styles he turns his hand to. So, what's on offer this time around? Well, for starters Yellow Blues is raising money for victims of the war in Ukraine, a country to which Valique has family ties. As usual, it's a mixed bag of goodness, with highlights including a squelchy, TB0-303 speckled take on a Johnny Cash classic, the chugging nu-disco/swamp blues fusion of 'Was It Worth It?', a fine revision of Rodrigues classic 'You Can't Get Away', a housed-up tweak of an old Doors gem ('Learn To Forget') and a toe-tapping, club-ready revision of Kenny Rogers' sing-along 'Just Dropped In (to See What Condition My Conidtion is In)'.

Girl, Why Don't You - (4:18) 58 BPM
Needles - (3:10) 55 BPM
Review: Brighton's Massevil steps up to RD with four slap-happy sample shakers. First up is a firing blues bruiser that takes Johnny Rivers to uptempo places he never knew existed. "Girl, Why Don't You" follows; a blistering twist on Prince Buster with added glitch menace and droning bass, it's a fine balance of strutting and skanking. "Trouble By God" takes the same Vera Hall sample Moby expertly used in "Natural Blues" and updates it with a grittier veneer. "Needles" eats the final sarnie of the picnic with a sample so downpitched and twisted it's hard to decipher. But very easy to dance to. These are what creative, finely crafted bootlegs sound like.

Review: Welcome to Eccentric City: Population - YOU! Brighton beat conjurer Massevil delivers his debut EP and it's a one-way ticket to party heaven. "The Dark Advocator" is a sludgy slew of bass textures and subtle vocal elements while "Booty Shake" lives up to its name with butt-shifting low end growls and a soaring detuned synth line that builds and builds with gradual drama. Finally we hit a skank-savvy version of "Drunk Girls". Surefire ruckus material with a deadly drop, it's an intoxicating experience from the off.

We Got The Funk
We Got The Funk (Caz remix) - (4:30) 60 BPM
Review: Supreme boogie business from longstanding German beat operator Jayl Funk; taking a classic Herbie Hancock/WAR style bassline, laying it gracefully over a series of bolshy big beats and massaging it with flutes, cowbells, horns and party noises, it's an instant party starter that people will recognise without ever hearing it previously. Looking for more of a 80s electro boogie twist with subtle shards of early Guy Called Gerald? Jump on Caz's version. You got the funk!

Walter & Bryan (Connor remix) - (5:48) 57 BPM
Beat The Dog (Days Of Being Wild remix) - (5:31) 59 BPM
Review: MontCosmik hails from Nantes, France and has released previously on Play Pal, Redant and Nein. His new one entitled "Walter & Bryan" comes courtesy of Madrid's Dogs & Vultures. In its original form, the track is a brooding late night disco journey, while Connor's remix up next ventures down more of an EBM route - which we really enjoyed. Second original offering "Beat The Dog" similarly treads murky new wave waters, but the rework up next by the ever impressive Days Of Being Wild is where it's at. This noirish experiment in synthpop is perfect mood lighting for when they turn the lights down low, the smoke machine gets turned on and you're dancing by yourself under the strobe light.

Walking On The Moon - (3:58) 65 BPM Hot
Walking On The Moon (drums & bass mix) - (3:39) 65 BPM
Review: If giant steps are what you take, you need to get your ears around Gazeebo's undeniably dubby and spaced-out cover of The Police's "Walking On The Moon". Becalmed, trippy and Balearic, the Colarado producer's interpretation is generally pretty faithful to Sting and company's original, except for one significant difference. With no lyrics or vocals present, the vocal melodies are instead played in chiming synthesizers. If anything, it makes the track even more attractive. If you're in the mood for something even dubbier, check out the Drum & Bass Mix. Rather than being a rip-snorting jungle revision, it's actually a sparse, jazzy and bass-heavy rhythm track.

Review: Steven Moove (aka Smoove) is back on his own Wack label, doing what he does best - providing serious party fuel in the shape of break-fuelled dancefloor gems. On the Wack Dynamite EP we get a mini album of crowd-pleasing party ammunition, including the breaky Bob Marley rework "De La Marley", the shimmering Michael Jackson disco rejig "Music's Taking Over" and the heavy hitting Eye Of The Tiger/LL Cool J mash up, "Rocky's Knockout". Good times are here!

Review: Virtuous is a relatively new record label who have jumped into the scene all guns blazing, having released a string of singles over the past few months. Now, they're launching their first ever VA LP and it's top quality, with sounds that span a wide variety of styles, from rolling liquid to dirty naughtiness. 'Damage' by Code Lost is definitely in the latter category and it's definitely one of the best on the release, with a cavernous bassline of spinning twirls and a pulsating epicentre that pushes out the rest of the track in a slick fashion. One to cop, this.

Boogaloo 22 - (4:32) 53 BPM
Review: If you're looking for some proper dirty, lowdown funk vibes, you won't do much better this week than this four-tracker from French producer Morlack, which indeed makes its intentions clear from the outset thanks to the rather rude spoken female vocal that kicks off 'Boogaloo 22'. Once that's out of the way, you're in for 20 minutes of sleazy, grinding beats, low-slung basslines and James Brown-esque vocal shouts that should satisfy even the most pernickety of funkateers, helped along in the case of 'Need A Help 22' by some cheeky AWB nods. The exception to the rule is 'Poopoo Lala', which has an 80s electrofunk/boogie feel and comes topped with the vocal from Jocelyn Brown's 'Ego Maniac'. Good stuff!

Review: LA's most annihilistically prolific bass fiend 6Blocc returns with yet another full length collection (his fourth this year so far) This one pays special dedication to jungle's deepest foundations with twisted amens, mangled synths and raucous MC calls to action. All tailored for the floor and your chaotic creative mixing pleasure, highlights swing like gremlins from every snare roll and edit. Big moments include the traditional organ skanks of "Jungle Lick", the rubber-ball subs of "Original Junglist" and the chalice-chuffing vocal flexes of "Reggaematic Style". Bona fide roots business.

KWEEN - "The Beat Of My Heart" (V's Cool Cat Sidewalk edit) - (6:29) 74 BPM
Review: Valique celebrates six years of consistent edit gold on his 12-year old Vehicle imprint. Digging deep across the collection he whisks us through the feels with a supreme range of instant party-pieces. From the blonde ambition of the slinky "Appelle Moi" to the freaky upbeat ground control of "Oddity" via the insane stretch and slap of "What The Hell?" and his versions of "Human Nation" and "Give Me Shelter", this is an immense set that brings us all up to speed and gets us excited for the next six years of edits. Review: Valique must have the world's largest record collection, as he is now on his fourth anniversary re-edit compilation and still shows no signs of stopping. This time round we get a whopping 28 reworks to choose from. It's packed full of copyright dodging megahit reworks including "Booty Itching" which features a super-teased KC & The Sunshine Band sample, the trippy acidic rework of Owner Of A Lonely Heart by Yes and dreamy disco laser-fest "When Did I Stop Loving You". Party gold.

Mark's - "Children Of The Revolution" (V Special edit) - (3:12) 72 BPM
Review: On his previous two releases, this shady re-edit guy, only known as 'V', caused many a cough and splutter within production circles over his decision to re-work largely well-known commercial hits. Maybe he's taken this on board, as here his selection is a lot less recognizable. "Miracles" is certainly identifiable as "I Believe In Miracles", but he's used the lesser know original by Mark Cappani as source material. Elsewhere, Betty Everett's "Hey Lucinda" gets almost doubled in length and Natalie Cole debut "Everlasting Love" gets stripped back. Bigger names do surface later though, including Nina Simone's "I'm Going Back Home" and even T.Rex's "Children Of The Revolution".

Review: Not to be confused with FWD's Youngsta, DDJs' Youngstar is also a veteran of the UK garage and grime sphere. In fact, this man has been doing it longer and his tunes have been firing up the scene since 2001. While he used to focus more exclusively on garage, this contemporary material is all about the grime bars and, as you'll be able to tell from the title, the bars are short but extremely effective. With eighteen cuts to choose from, this is the perfect material to use either as heavy DJ artillery, or for part-time vocalism if you're in the spittin' mood. One thing is for sure, though, this is A-class material from an underrated legend of the UK grime game.

Review: Digital Wax Productions is almost exclusively the home of DJ Leonidas/Alien Disco Sugar (some conspiracy theorists even have him pegged as the label's owner), but here we see a new addition to the roster - newcomer Tuxedo Jack. Leonidas has been hyping Jack's 'club friendly funk/break edits' online and we can now hear why - there are five jams included here, including the wah-wah-heavy retro loops of "Kool Funk NT", the block-rockin breaks of "Sexy Pot" and the soulful, slow groover "All Right Now". Dancefloors everywhere, beware!

Tropical Wiseguy EP
Yeh Dig - (5:12) 58 BPM
Review: Bristol-based beat minder Hiphoppapotamus jumps aboard the good ship Booty Fruit with his first full EP. The result is a five-track collection of total party hedonism. "Tropical Wiseguy" adds a slice of spicy bossa magic to the Wiseguys' classic, "Sunshine Riddim" is all about the sassy sun-kissed skanks and breezy organ blasts while "It's Carnivaaal" takes a Trojan standard and takes it to steel drum city. Elsewhere Desmond Dekker gets a rolling big beat makeover on "You Can Get It" while "Yeh Dig" closes the show with a splash of samba magic. Total party stimulation, expect plenty more vibe wallowing from Hiphoppapotamus very soon...
