Review: Belgian prankster Olivier Gregoire aka Kolombo is back at it with a new one on his own Loulou imprint. "Don't Give Up" is a cheeky little jam with some creepy pitch shifted vocals over a dirty, funky breakbeat and it works well. "Prime" sounds more like the Kolombo we know, it's a dark electro house number for the after-hours with more of his sinister pitch shifted vocals: really liking this one. Finally "Track" is another bouncy electro-house number with tongue firmly in cheek and not as dark as the last offering: the synth lead on this one is mental!
Review: With a remix debut on Sound Pellegrino and a solo debut on Ed Banger, Parisian artist Boston is quite the hot tip right now. Taking the acid house and Chicago warehouse vibes of yore (think Pierre, Hardy, Green Velvet) and adding that French touch, there's something both retro and forward looking about this trio of tracks. "Closer" is the quirkiest of the pair with the strange crackles and warping on the cowbells and sleazy-assed groove. "Urnmae" is more of a nod to Mr Fingers, but done with a prog-like glow that wouldn't have gone amiss in a Sasha & Digweed set back in the proverbial. Last but not least, the title track "House Call" is a serious jack-attack. Keep listening...
