Review: When 1Forty decide to put together a bass EP, they do it in style, with this 9th edition of their bass compilation series unveiling four old school warblers. We open up with the explosive combinations of Avaword & TRC, who deliver a niche-inspired throwback, lashed together with high energy LFO sweeps and aggressive vocal displays, followed by the dancefloor rumbling rolls of 'Don't Run', seeing Killjoy & Manny Mashup join forces in style. Next, more old school flavour as 'Warpin' Hell' sees J69 strip the sound back to its roots, followed by a more futuristic look at 4x4 from IndiAlman & Arth.exe entitled 'Tooled Up', closing off this project with a dash of new energy.

Tell Me What You Want - (2:43) 138 BPM Hot
Review: As a living legend of bassline and niche music, it's always good to see J69 back in action, who this time steps out on his own imprint of J69Music for a fabulous display of original 4x4 flavour, unloading two new heavyweight singles. We begin our dive with '0114', a super choppy sweep through nostalgia-inducing bass squelches and high intensity drum runs, giving us a hard hitting introductory arrangement to say that least. From here, 'Tell Me What You Want' unloads a box of dissonant vocal chops and unpredictable organ chords, taking us to the ghostly heart of club land and back again with a fiery arrangement. Very nice work indeed!

Review: CruCast are on yet another fantastic run this year, doing what they do best by combining the already prominent fan bases of their more established roster, whilst also using their platform to showcase and introduce exciting new production talent. This latest project sees them put together a very exciting six track selection from some of the hottest up and comers right about now. We see returns for J69 and MPH, along with wicked rinse outs from Reese and Kuto. For us however, there are two clear stand out, with 'Get' from Papps providing a tech-inspired audible edge to the project, along with Cooky's high energy warbler in 'Work It Out'.

Review: As a label, Crucast have gone from strength to strength, rapidly establishing themselves as one of the premiere platforms for bass music in the UK. This complication marks that out perfectly with an astonishing selection of over 30 original creations, featuring high profile appearances from the likes of Jaguar Skills, Brent Kilner, Pavv, TC4, Inkline, Deadbeat UK and a tonne more. For us the EP highlights the strength in the current UK bass scene, with favourites being Bushbaby & Hadean's long-awaited collaboration release 'Clean Up', the monstrous swinging synths of Tengu's 'Weapon' and of course the wonky wonderings of SaidWho's 'Voices', a truly original compositional idea, focussing on rawcus bass sounds and scattered drum selections.

Review: 2019 is a year which has seen a major shift in the landscape of music, both in regards to the status of the genre worldwide, and the evolution of the sound itself. One of the leading projects in the more tearout corner of bassline is of course CruCast, a label that remain at the forefront of the sound, shutting down raves around the country every weekend. This latest helping from them comes in the form of a twenty track strong compilation project, featuring some absolute heat from the likes of Papps, Moda, Tengu, JGE, Jay Faded and more. There are a couple of clear standouts for us, with the super original bass rhythms of 'Don't Bother Act' from Tekraw and Dread MC being an immediate earworm, along with the super oldschool niche vibes of 'On My Mind' from Vamos.

Matt Brockman - "Luv U Like" - (3:26) 134 BPM Hot
Review: To add to their incredibly versatile catalogue, the 1Forty crew are back in business, entering 2023 with a vibrant exploration into bassline's current motives, unleashing four original skankers on their 8th 'Bass' compilation. First up, The Illustration joins forces with Breeza for a rave-ready singalong, linking otherworldly synth lines with catchy vocal toasting, before the ever-ready J69 let's fly a serious warbler in 'Letter To 09', paying homage to the niche-inspired sounds that came before. From here, Dark Moon arrives with a slightly slower slap in 'Transmit', a grizzly metallic crunch, fusing gnarly bass squelches with low pitched vocal overlays, before Matt Brockman gives us a killer closer in 'Luv U Like', focussing on eerie vocal chops and steadily rising bass manoeuvres. Lovely stuff!

Mattik - "Gonzales" (original mix) - (4:27) 133 BPM
Review: It's always great to see the Strictly House And Garage crew get back to business, with this latest offering of futuristic garage flavour seeing them unleash 7 speed garage originals. We open up with label-founder and long standing Sheffield veteran Skillz letting loose on the bubbly pulses of 'Dibble Dab', followed by Liam B Line's masterful rework of The Streets in 'Pirate Lockdown' and the explosive rethink of Rip Groover from Local Dubz, giving us a classic a powerful rethink. Next, J69 strips the sound back to its niche-driven roots as '97' gives us a shuffling bassy showcase, next to Spa Street Sound's warbling speaker wrecker in 'All Cru'. Finally, the party feeling is stripped back to the minimum as the glitchy chord progressions and vibrant drum skips of 'Gonzales' from Mattik sees the project close out in style. Excellent work!

J69 - "Take It Back" - (3:13) 140 BPM
Lil Milly & Manny Mashup - "The Steppa" - (4:09) 140 BPM
Review: It's been a hot minute since we last saw the super consistent 1Forty crew make a foray into the realms of bass music, with this most recent V/A being another solid example of just how well they understand the sound. We begin with a potent link up as Forca joins the sounds of the legendary DJ Pantha on 'Reload', giving us a serious dosage of original niche 4x4 energy, doused in nostalgia and high energy vocal runs, before the jittering chords and sweeping LFO pulses of The Phat Controlla's 'You're Mine'. The energy levels only increase as we then move forward, with J69 providing some dancefloor heat with the bubbling melodies of 'Take It Back', followed by a wizzy outro track from Lil Milly & Manny Mashup, letting loose a barrage of lethal synthesizer pulses on 'The Steppa'.

Burt Cope - "Cellar" - (3:30) 140 BPM
Badger - "Pure" - (2:46) 130 BPM
Review: As always with the fabulous sounds of 1Forty, they have treated us to another high profile compilation, with this being the sixth installment of their highly converted 'Bass' series. We kick off with the niche-inspired LFO rolls and crunchy drum switches of Palize & Killa P's sizzling original 'Duppy Them', which most certainly kick-starts the EP with a powerful slap. That old school flavour continues with 'Bap Bap' as J69 provides a super mucky instrumental for Breeza to provide some laid back party-lyricism. We move into two cracking instrumentals next as Burt Cope steps up firstly with the warbling wonders of 'Cellar', giving us a rave-ready feel, before the more tech-influenced bass processing of 'Pure' sees Badger have a fantastic 1Forty debut.

Review: Sometimes, you just can't beat that original bassline sound, which is why the Off Me Nut imprint remains as popular as it always has been with their fun-filled catalogue of 4x4 flavour. J69 lands this time to deliver four warbling wonders, kicking off with the cheeky wobbles and skippy drum arrangements of 'Alien Dawg'. Next, the party intensifies somewhat as the choppy vocal segments of 'Like This' roll into play, alongside interesting sonics of 'Screwface's experimental drum work. Finally, we get grizzly as 'Twenty Oh 7' delivers a shell shocker of a bassline barrage, putting the finishing touches on a real party starter of a project!

Review: The Project Allout team have continuously supplied us with top quality bass music for as long as we can remember, so to see them still operating at the highest echelon is incredibly pleasing. They do the business with this next release as they unveil the first edition of their brand new 'Wobblers' compilation series, focussed on showcasing the most lively 4x4 bassline music out there right now. An impressive roster has been assembled for this one, including legendary names such as Killjoy, Palize, J69 and more, with a host of newer bassline talent decorating the tracklisting from start to finish. The outright power and nostalgic synth work of 'The Abyss' from Liam B Line is an immediate standout, alongside the pleasing, more high ended wobbling synthesizer work of 'Shut Up' from Weekz. Wicked job!

The line up for the selection is potent to say the least, seeing high profile returns for the likes of J69, Nekst, Fiyahman, Swedger and more, along with the introduction of some eyebrow raising newcomers! For us the highlights on this one simply have to include the dancefloor destroying old school UKG flavours of 'The Massive Crew' from Sekt-87, along with Teotek's neurotic thrillride in 'Tunnel Driver'.

Review: The guys at In:Flux really do deserve a lot of credit for their tireless contributions to the UK bass scene over the last few months, having made themselves one of the most prominent Northern imprints within the wide span of the genre. We are here to celebrate and enjoy this compilation celebrating five years of activity from the label. They pull out all the stocks for sure, inviting the likes of Brent Kilner, Pavv, Pelikann, Dr Oscillator, J69 and more to join in the party, with our specific highlights coming from Tik&Borrow themselves, the leading forces behind the project. We look forward to many more years of the In:Flux wave continuing to run!

Review: As a label, Yosh has gone from strength to strength over the last few years, bringing together some of the bass scenes most exciting artists on both compilations and single releases. Here they team up with the wise owls of Tengu to put together a powerhouse tracklisting, bringing in a host of new faces such as KXVU, Movement, Pavv, J69 and. R3DX, as well as bringing back some of their favourite regulars. For us the stand outs have to include Kyle Riot's emotive bass belter in 'Through My Eyes' which combines electronically processed vocal stabs with shimmering bass textures. Another highlight would have to be Mofaux's 'Soldier' composition, which combines skippy drum rhythms with a grinding LFO and more catchy vocal stabs. Excellent stuff.

Review: As one of the most prominent labels in the UK Bass scene, In:Flux Audio have consistently delivered banging release after banging release, and the most recent edition of their 'Get Fluxed' compilation series shows they have no intention of stopping this trend. They bring some of their classic roster into the field of play as Pavv, Tengu, Zemon and Fiyahman all make return appearances. For us however the highlights lay in Hamdi's super groovy 'Zing Zoom Zoom', which channels vibrant bass instrumentation with super punchy drum riffs. Another instant favourite would have to be the speed garage inspired arrangement of 'Trigga Finga' from bassline high flyer Sekt-87 and In:Flux founders Tik&Borrow.

Review: Has bassline ever been more influential than it is currently across the UK? I think most people would struggle to argue otherwise. To celebrate this, bassline heavyweights DJQ, Jamie Duggan, Skepsis and Darkzy join forces for an allstar compilation album, including a selection of full tracks and exclusive mixes. The full project includes exclusive drops from the likes of Champion, Shanti, DJQ, Flava D, TQD, Preditah, Bushbaby, Darkzy, Bru-C and many more. You are going to struggle to find a more comprehensive bassline selection this year!

Review: In:Flux let rip with a second massive V/A album of the year and it's an all-out bass riot featuring some of the label's most exciting names and affiliates as they tear each other's cuts apart and rebuild them in their own unique (and consistently gully) ways. Highlights include the spring two-step savagery Pavv's own VIP "Don't Look", the sci-fi spookiness and graveyard bass of Tik&Borrow's take on "Jah Victory", KXVU's tripped out wave-synth take on Pelikann's "Laughing Cow" and Pelikann's jacking bassline take on "No 6". Not a dull moment, In:flux aren't messing around mate.

Featuring Martin McFly's infamous Nike spacers on the cover, this jam-packed comp of goodness features all of the label's biggest names and, of course, the creme-de-la-creme of UK house music. Sitting somewhere on the hardcore continuum between garage and breaks, the likes of Pharaoh K, Joedan, Pelikann and Krissi B, among others, set out what will surely be THE bass release of the summer in terms of DJ playback. This is the sort of gear you hear out on the beach at Pula's mighty Outlook festival. Sun's out, bass out.

Review: If we're talking bass, then In:Flux Audio surely has to be in the running for most prolific label of 2016. The unstoppable collective is always full of tricks up their sleeves, and this Selection Box compilation is exactly the sort of thing we wanted to hear from them; a rough and packed collection of their best and most definitive moments of last year. From pseudo jungle, weird, amorphic dubstep, and killer speed-house, there isn't much that sounds wring with this release, and even the most demanding of bass-heads are likely to find something that they'll churn out week after week, floor after floor.

Review: Much like squashing a fly with a sledgehammer, Sheffield's Project Allout, counter Bristol's bass supremacy with this mammoth compilation. Yes, the second instalment in their eponymous series boasts a frankly absurd 39 new fresh bass cuts. It may take a while to get through it all, but that's half the fun. Inititial highlights include the speedy claps, fizzy hats and taut wobble vibes of "Manners" by 1Thirty, the horror move trap thrills of "Black Missile" by "Familiar Face" and the voluptuous house bass of Mooney's "At The Top".

Review: Bristol's bass supremacy is under threat from Sheffield's formidable Project Allout, who have literally gone all out by rounding up 21 heavyweight jams to prove it. With such heavy ammo who is foolish enough to try and resist? Not us, and if we really had to pick, some of our favourites would be Adam Mac's doomy, empty rainy street vibes on the haunting "Cold Side", the accelerated, pinged up, soulful 4 x 4 banger "Deep" by Deadbeat UK and the percussive dancehall infused synth bass monster, "Likkie Vibez" by Juzlo. The Allout revolution, don't fight it, feel it!

Review: Since being established one year ago, UK label Saucy have kept themselves very busy indeed. Apart from releasing singles from a top selection of international talent, they've also treated their audience to a few mini-compilations too. Here, they go for the big one: a full-blown collection to celebrate their first birthday. There are 20 tracks to chosen from, highlights include the deep string-led house of "Murder (Skapes mix)" by SPX, the otherworldly laser-bass attack of "Renegade Horns" by Libra and the haunted bass-step of Distro's remix of Pelikann's "Hear Me".

Nidus EP
Nidus - (3:13) 140 BPM
Come Wi Di Tune - (3:43) 140 BPM
Baby - (4:11) 140 BPM Hot
Review: Nidus: The focus of infection; the place in which bacteria have multiplied. The clue is in the title here... "Nidus" is an instant source of raw sickness that infect your entire dancefloor when dropped appropriately. "Come Wi Di Tune" follows suit with crafty MC vocal shots, another classic J69 toxic bassline and chop-slapping drums. Finally "Baby" sees J69 dust off his guitar and show us how ballads are done up north. Not really, it's actually the darkest strutter on the EP. Get to know.

Evil
Evil - (4:13) 143 BPM Hot
You - (4:10) 140 BPM
You (Laney remix) - (3:05)
Void - (3:15) 141 BPM
Review: Sheffield's J69 has been earning a name for himself notching up forward thinking releases on labels with such remarkable names as Off Me Nut Records. Now he's hooked up with Soukouch Ethnik for this 4-tracker and he's not holding back. Title track "Evil" features an incessant, high-pitched melody over 4x4 beats and bass with some pretty heavy wobble. Elsewhere we get staccato robot garage ("You"), which is given an excellent trap-ish makeover by Laney, and the mechanical hip-hop-isms of "Void".
