The Funk Out
The Funk Out (original mix) - (3:50) 172 BPM
Review: "The Funk Out," a collaborative single by Portuguese producer Molecular and Bristol-based Carasel, injects a healthy dose of funk into the Sofa Sound label. This single defies easy categorization, blending elements of jungle, drum & bass, and funk into a unique and infectious concoction. The driving drumbeat lays the foundation, while groovy basslines, funky guitar licks, and shimmering synths weave a tapestry of sound that's both familiar and fresh. If you're looking for something to lift your mood and get your body moving, look no further.

Sofa Singles Club - Episode 1
Various
Review: Breaking records and hearts, DLR's Sofa Sound crew present the 'Sofa Singles Club' concept whereby a bunch of dubs that were meant for release later this year have all come out early in to find some summer loving. Some of the label's most exciting names are on side along with the bossman as they get naughty, dirty and downright filthy with the wriggly basslines. Highlights include the Bad Company style reeses and massive bubbles of 'Figure It Out', the pure drama of 'Eagle Bomber' and the out-there funky freakery of 'Staying Up Late Making Music'. Don't be stupid... Do a Cupid!

Sofa King Sick IV
Various
Review: Have a word son! DLR's 'Sofa King Sick' series continues with another breath-taking collection of thumpers, bumpers and grumpers from an outstanding roll-call of talents. 14 cuts in total, highlights include the creepy tension of Industry's 'Chronic', Sweetpea's classic stepper 'Munka', the real stinky, swampy funk on DLR & Script's 'A Different Style', the stripped back drama and growling subtleties of Kyrist's 'Underfall' and the outstanding tear-up from Trex & Freddy B - 'Go Mad'. Fitting title for such a powerful display of leftfield D&B funk. Sick indeed.

Sofa King Sick IV - Sampler
Review: Calling all couch slouchers and settee Bettys, Sofa Sound are about to drop another one of their mighty 'Sofa King Sick' VA compendiums and if this sampler is anything to go by then it's going to be another scorchio session. Molecular takes the lead with a VIP twist on his Sofa Sound debut from a few years back, 'Skank', while Sweetpea follows with the wonderfully brutalist 'Munka' that hits the feels with a Virus-like sense of energy and groove craft. Sick!

Sofa King Sick, Chapter 3
Various
Review: Hello! DLR's Sofa Sound returns to the 'Sofa King Sick' series for a brand new chapter comprising 19 cuts from some of the brightest young minds and established talents across the jungle D&B spectrum. As always with the Sofa gang the vibe is warm, raw and very groove focused and the whole album is loaded with stark, dark contemporary treats. Highlights include the stern grit and drama of Submotive's 'Snowed In', the brazen futurism and moodiness of 'Uppin' The Ante' from Ill Truth, Defex and Bluejay and the siren-raising hype and soundsystem ruffage of 'Live Till 86' from ZeroZero. But that's just three of many many many killer tunes on here. Dig deep and sit comfortably!

Collaborations 3
Various
Review: Fokuz is without a doubt one of the best labels in the game, their diversity alone places them right at the top of the metaphorical leader board and nothing exemplifies this better than their Collaborations series. Featuring a litany of artists across almost as many styles, including Molecular, ALB, Critical Event and more, putting this third instalment up there with the others. Molecular's 'What Defines' is darker than what Fokuz is known for and it just absolutely slams the whole way, a proper minimal roller with tonnes of character and more than a little charm. The first track on the album, it sets the tone for the rest nicely.

Move EP
Review: Attention to detail: Molecular takes the dark art of gully down to microscopic levels with his biggest EP to date. Four tracks deep, each one chiselled with stepper precision, highlights include the DCi4 style minimalism and ghostliness of "Sudden Flow", the soulful skank prowess of "Get Done" and the salubrious rolls and big jazz wafts of "Lurker". And that's before even begin to consider the immense dark vox ripples and absolute thunder of the title track "Move". Fokuz don't mess around... And neither does Molecular. Badboy business.

Collaborations 2
Various
Review: Fokuz Recordings consistently release some of the best compilation albums around. Their pool of artists is so diverse and so top quality that an assortment of their work is always going to be special, especially when they bring in outside talent like Break and Zero T. Collaborations 2 is what is says on the tin: remixes and other collaborative projects and blimey, it's good stuff. Joakuim's '8am Roller' is the perfect example, a deft piece of piano-based smoothness that rolls out to your heart's content with sultry results, an instant classic of liquid-sized proportions. The Break remix is a welcome addition, as is the steppy yet soulful Zero T remix of Ben Carlos. Another very, very good selection of cuts from the always sublime Fokuz crew.

Fokuz Recap 2018
Various
Review: One of the most iconic and prolific labels in the D&B scene, Fokuz Recordings manage to simultaneously show off the best in the game whilst supporting new talent and the results are fantastic. This album - a recap of 2018 - exemplifies their approach. It's full of big names and bigger tracks, including S.P.Y's remix of 'Always Yours' by Macca & Loz Contreras, Artificial Intelligence's remix of 'String City' by Lenzman and Calibre's remix of 'Forward Thinking' by Satl. Whilst these are obviously great, the bigger story lies in the lesser-known participants and their ability to pull at your heartstrings. DJ Ransome, Edlan, Soligen amongst others all come seriously correct on this LP, turning it into a seriously good release.

TWYCF
Review: Having appeared on their sister label Citrus last year, fast rising Portuguese producer Molecular now makes his debut on longstanding Dutch imprint Fokuz with four exceptional constructions: "TWYCF" is a breezy stepper stripped right back to reveal its hurricane soul, "The Whale" blows minds with a weirded out halftime woozy switch, "Choose One" pitches you in the eye of its own rolling storm (and some premium drum production) while "Direct Look" closes the EP on a mean, lean pranged out vibe laced with worming percussion and some very cheeky surprise breaks. Spotless.
