Review: Jesper Dahlback's Persuader alter ego was one of house music's most inspiring projects during the 90s - and the Swedish producer made a welcome return in 2015 with an album, Skargard, under this name. This time, Dahlback has opted for a somewhat darker approach; gone are the jazzy stylings of releases like "Stockholm By Night", replaced by the dark, foreboding bass of "The Arrival", which sounds like a slower, teased out take on his DK7 project. "Close Coming" makes a return of sorts to the project's deep, atmospheric roots with frosty synths unfolding over a rickety rhythm, while on "Believe", he uses a surging bass to underpin ghostly vocals - as evocative as fog banks rolling in over the Baltic Sea.

Review: The legendary Jesper Dahlback's career spans nearly 20 years and like his fellow Swedish comrades (and SVEK alumni) Jori Hulkonnen, Alexi Delano, Adam Beyer and Joel Mull (who appeared on Parabel's previous release) his contribution to techno music has been invaluable. His Persuader alias is on the scene again and his first full length in 16 years, "Himmel Rod" sees Dahlback throw down some drifting, atmospheric and restrained techno; the title track is evidence of this. The emotive high tech soul of "Over Stigen" features dark strings, fierce and dusty rhythms and.. not much else but it hammers the message home effectively. On the flip "Myren" is the most notable track with its wonky and sinister synth lead made for some epic dancefloor moments; expect to be hearing this one a lot this Spring and there's also a beatless/ambient edit included of "Over Stigen" included for your convenience. It's nice to have you back Mr Dahlback.

Review: Of all his projects, The Persuader is Jesper Dahlback's most interesting. Apart from being highly collectable, his late 90s records under this name are among some of the best deep house releases from that time. Happily, the Swedish producer has decided to revive the project and this collection shines a light on what he does best. "Inre Stenen" is a dubby, spaced out groove, similar in sound to Marshall Jefferson's "Mushrooms", while "Kampen" sees him copper-fasten grimy acid to a series of razor sharp percussive bursts. Skargard also features a series of ambient interludes, but it's clear that Dahlback is most comfortable when he's dropping warm, chord-heavy grooves, as he does most impressively here on "Dymlingharan".
