Review: A single-tracker here from Russian DJ/producer Anton Bogomolov, better known as Scruscru, coming as ever on his own Scruniversal label. A title like 'Spring Jazz Session' is always gonna be fairly evocative, so you might think you have a pretty good idea what to expect here already... and you'd be pretty much right. Opening with tinkling keys over gentle percussion before introducing a walking bassline and, eventually, an understated 4/4 kick, this mellow, summery groove with its lead flute line is definitely one for afternoon and poolside sessions rather than Saturday night dancefloor abandon - but served on a good system at the right time, it'll sound just heavenly.

Review: Making their mark on Smalltown Supersound, the nine-piece Norwegian Jaga Jazzist ensemble have earned their place on Ninja Tune by supplying the label with five albums and a clutch EPs over the course of five years. It's clear the collective hold a special over at Ninja Tune which perhaps explains why the label have commissioned a remix from fellow countryman Todd Terje who keeps the original's classical theatrics in tow, while also adding his trademark disco touch in a 10-minute production that traverses many genres - and cosmic galaxies.

Review: Kraak & Smaak, despite what you'd think going by their name; are in fact a trio and hail from the town of Leiden, Netherlands: consisting of Oscar de Jong, Mark Kneppers and Wim Plug. They've been at it since 2003 and their careers have gone from strength to strength; the bulk of their material devoted to this very imprint: Jalapeno out of Brighton UK that is also home to The Allergies, Skeewiff and Ian Britt. New single "Stumble" is a gorgeous serving of indie-dance-electronica featuring some bittersweet vocals atop and elevating chord progressions: an all round deep groove. Hit prediction right here!

Review: St Petersburg-based producer Pavel Svetlove has built up quite a discography over the past dozen years or so, chalking up releases on the likes of Music Is The Answer, Moiss Music, King Street Sounds and, of course, Spa In Disco, to which label he now returns with a killer single-tracker. If you like your house on the jazzier side, your jazz on the funkier side and your funk on the housier side then you need 'Funny Walking' in your virtual record box: with neatly clipped beats, parping sax, sprightly pianos and some ker-razy wigged-out Hammond action, it's got everything you need to get the party started, and then some.

Review: The unstoppable Strut label, usually associated to outstanding reissue anthologies, welcome a surprise package to their catalogue, and boy is this special. Ebo Taylor, one of Ghana's most prolific musicians over the last thirty years, is remixed by none other than Henrik Schwarz, German deep house king and electronic deviant. The track in question is "Ene Nyame Nam A Mensuro", which is transformed by Schwarz into a lively house number complete with Taylor's vocals and plenty of electronic tweaking and processing. The end result is just a straight-up summer jacker. Check!

Review: Sharif Laffrey is something of an unheralded hero of the underground Detroit scene. Active since the halcyon days of the mid-90s Motor City rave movement, his sporadic releases are rarely less than superb (as those who copped last year's radical, thrillingly wayward acid house mutilation of Pet Shop Boys "Always On My Mind/In My House" will attest). The one-track "And Dance" is another delightfully wonky epic; a 14-minute fusion of chopped-up Italo-disco loops, rising and falling acid lines and heavily manipulated spoken word vocals. There are multiple stops, starts, breakdowns, drops and build-ups, with Laffrey subtly building up the pressure via waves of wonky Motor City electronics throughout. There aren't many of these around, so act fast if you want to secure a copy.
