Review: As well as being a resident at Moscow's Denis Simachev bar, Leonid Lipelis has been slowly making a name for himself as a producer for some time. There's a whole raft of Lipelis remixes for the nu-disco set dating back to 2006, but it feels like the Russian producer has stepped up his game of late. Inbetween some killer edits for LIES and an upcoming Public Possession 12" as TMO, Lipelis dons his Beard In Dust guise for the latest release from the mysterious Bahnsteig 23 label. If you were a fan of that aforementioned LIES release or any BAH 12 it's highly likely you will dig the four cuts here with Lipelis drawing for some obscure sources with eminently danceable results.
Review: United States-based producer Kokanshu makes glitchy, abstract and occasionally surprisingly melodic electronica inspired by paranoid dreams of technological Armageddon. This first expansive full length for Binalog Productions features tracks from two previously self-released sets, Grabbing Pixels and Tiny Parachutes. Amongst the Aphex Twin-ish glitchery (see the skittish, casually melodic "Warm & Fuzzy on Lake Sammamish") and Autechre style industrial IDM, you'll find the odd chunk of cascading ambience and hard-as-nails electro. For the most part, though, Tiny Pixels is discordant and other wordly - a dreamy, occasionally nightmarish trip into the far reaches of electronic music.
Review: The Untilmyheartstops affiliated Welsh producer Leif returns, with more sublime genre-defying excursions in modern electronic music here for his new Tio-Series. The third release in the series explores off-kilter, shimmering, rhythmic and melodic abstractions. From the dreamy and hypnotic ambient house of "Montpelier" and its sublime polyrhythmic complexity, through to the more powerful and upbeat expression of "Rumex", a jagged tribal trance workout that you could imagine him playing in his own DJ sets - this one is truly emotive and with a real impact. Each TIO Series release features artwork from Gethin Moller.
