Review: Athens Of The North are a Edinburgh based disco label and here they present a rare disco 'banger' to end 2017. According to the label, Star Quake came out of Columbus, Georgia and that's about as far as they got. Although nobody is sure of exactly which year it was produced/released, "Don't You Know I Love You" has recently risen in popularity with vinyl copies easily going for over $1000 and with good reason. A disco floater over some brilliant bass, the label boss Fryer also edited the second track "Don't You Know I Love You Pt.2" to remove the fade in - so it can now be dropped easily in a club. Happy New Year! AOTN has had a great year with edits for the likes of Ice, Benita, Pure Essence and Grupo Magnetico.
Review: Taken from last year's immaculate excavation LP The Roy Roberts Experience, both tracks here are holy grail northern soul artefacts. "I Know What To Do To Satisfy You" is a super-rare feel good upbeat soul gem with steel drums, big brass and keys pinned down to perfect by Roy's soft-but-firm vocals while "Got To Have Your Love" is more of a straight up northern soul floor stomper with some seriously surging organ work singing in harmony with Roy's gutsy deliver.
