Review: Sao Paulo's finest export Bungle has a long history of hitting the decks hard and "Alone" is his latest tribute to the old school. Mixing vintage sounds with fresh drums and bass, the title track "Alone" is a perfect set starter to get things moving in the dance. "Looking Back" is the ticket tune if industrial, heavyweight bangers that morph into beautiful, flowing rollers are your bag. "Arcadia" channels old school Dillinja down to the dark slamming bass and percussion that keeps pushing back against swirling synths. Final track "Fast Forward" offers a more minimal sound, stepping up with tribal drums before building into a whirlwind roller, tapping into an addictive old school sound. It's pretty much perfection and you need it.
Review: Hot Since 82's Knee Deep In Sound is back with Kuo Climax, a Spanish producer and DJ from Malaga. "Alone" is rolling, slinky tech house with killer chords and one tightly programmed rhythm that will appeal to fans of Saved or Gruuv. "Long Time" keeps on with the rolling groove but is definitely more rowdy and suited to the peak time for mega parties on the White Isle. It gets a killer remix by Ben Grunnell which is clean cut and to the point; not as druggy, more summery, but definitely as funky. Leftwing & Kody's remix of "Alone" has one absolute killer of a drop that soon gives way adrenalised and atmospheric progressive house groove.
Review: Dirty Channels & Bugsy team up with French-Tunisian singer-songwriter and actress Amina Annabi, famous for finishing second in the tied 1991 Eurovision Song Contest. The supple bassline and dreamy, dubby house notes of "Alone" compliment the trippy stylings of Amina's tenor. Freerange regular Pezzner brings Amina's full bodied lyrics to the front of his mix, while Josh Wink's "re-think dub" of Pezzner's remix retracts the vocals entirely, leaving only touches of reverb. Wink supplies two extra nine-minute "re-thinks" of his own with a dub and vox versions. Both are emblematic of the Ovum sound, replete with African percussion and drooping basslines. Wink naturally utilises Amina's now breathy vocals in his vox mix, while putting more emphasis on the strong synth line in his dub.
