Review: The undisputed king of hypnotic techno returns. Lately venturing out of the comfort zone that is his own Geophone imprint with releases on Mote Evolver, Repitch and now Amsterdam's Balans. "Transgression and Punishment" is more than just another slogan versus the world; it's an apt description for the American innovator's sound. Pounding, relentless, cavernous: these are the descriptions that come to mind when describing Parker's other wordly tracks. The title track and "Smoke From The Burning Fields" are classic Parker; reductionist and ergonomic DJ tools that loop you into submission while "The Freezing Process" delivers one of the most menacing modular snarls not seen since his epic "Forward (The 5AM Mix)". But "The Midnight Zone" is the peak time killer on offer here, with its psychotropic alien signals building gradually in modulation towards transcendental euphoria.

Review: Buffalo, NY producer Mike Parker has long been one of techno's most prolific - not to mention consistent - talents. He's released on a multitude of labels over the last decade, and here adds the Voices From The Lake-operated Spazio Disponsible to his stellar discography. He begins in atmospheric fashion, working soft-touch drums and mind-bending electronic motifs on hypnotic opener "Undulating Frequencies", before entering the wonky zone with the sparse, delay-laden rhythm track "Three Golden Heads". He returns to the quietly effective formula explored on "Undulating Frequencies" with the similarly trippy "Invisible Arms", before completing a solid EP with the thunderous kick drums and alien riffs of standout "Two Steps Sweep".

Ketos Troias - (7:46) 128 BPM
from $1.93
Review: Mike Parker graces Repitch for the third installment of its 10-inch series. Anyone familiar with the US DJ/producer will know that he has developed a singular sound since the 90s and this two-tracker is no exception. "Ketos Troias" is a subdued affair, its drum patterns bubbling beneath the surface as Parker sketches out a hypnotic tonal sequence. "Through Cylinders" is darker and more intense; like many of his best tracks, it sounds influenced by the repetitive sounds of early F.U.S.E material as well as hardcore rave stabs to weave an intense groove that is tailor-made for smoke-filled rooms.

Review: It's been another explosive year for Buffalo veteran Parker with key releases firing from Repitch, Spazio, Inkblots and Edit Select this year already. Now, after over 20 years in the game, he makes his debut on the mighty Tresor with four more highly mixable and creative reasons why he's maintained his respected status; "Disintegrating Sand" rolls and folds the kicks and rhythmic vapour traces with a Plastik edge while "Angels In Cages" fluctuates with a mind-warping trippiness, "Gyroscopic Precession" twists the lasers with a visceral physicality and "Meteor Crater" warps with hypnotic insistency. Lean elements, mean messages - Parker makes music you can help but get lost inside of.

Review: Float is the imprint for Dutch duo TWR72, and since its inception a few years ago, they have released material by underground acts like Tensal and Sleeparchive. However, this latest release is probably Float's biggest coup so far as it sees them secure the services of Mike Parker. On "Internalized Action", Parker surprises with a slowed down, teased out take on his hypnotic sound, but on the title track, he reverts to type. "Metamora" is an intense banger, centring on those woozy tones that the US producer has made his own. On the flip side, Cirkle contributes the rolling "Oblate Spheroid" and the atmospheric, tunnelling "Cygnus", but it's all about Parker here.

Review: If there's someone you can count on for excellence in minimalism when it comes to techno, it's Mike Parker. This time it's Mote-Evolver he's doing the business for, turning out three po-faced slices of tough and stealthy tackle for the dance. "Spitting Electricity" uses neat and tidy polyrhythms to create a slip-sliding effect as the titular electricity undulates through a filter. "Polar Vortex" is more obtuse with its bubbling synth tone that comes straight out of the textbook of freaky sound effects in techno tracks. "Ice Fissure" too turns to canny sound design to make its point, not to mention audibly crafting the crack of the title over a slow marching kick.

Blueshift - (6:00) 128 BPM Biggest-selling track on this release

Review: There's plenty of interest on this three track Charged Particles EP from the Tsunami Records label. Firstly it brandishes yet more highly charged output from the Spherical Coordinates project of label boss Christian Wunsch and Spanish techno icon Oscar Mulero, a collaboration that debuted in auspicious circumstances with a recent EP on Polegroup. Much like that four tracker, "SCXFG 21" sees the pair lock into a deep, throbbing techno groove that perfectly encapsulates their stated intention to create music "heavily inspired by space and futurism, focusing on liquid textures, harmonic sequences and classic drum machine sounds, yet preserving the danceable feeling." In addition, Geophone and Prologue artist Mike Parker ensures the deepness remains with the shuddering textural journey below that is "Currents" whilst Reeko opts for a groaning industrial approach on the excellent "Blueshift".
