You're Not Here Part 2
You're Not Here (Fingerman's version Excursion) - (7:53) 102 BPM Hot
Review: Originally scheduled for a December release, here at last come the remixes for a Situation/Andre Espeut collab that first landed back in November. The original sat somewhere on the mod-soul-acid jazz spectrum, but the remixes take us down a more uptempo route. Fingerman's Version Excursion gets the ball rolling and has something of a laidback, Nang-style nu-disco feel, before Soulfuledge bring us a percussion-led, Afro-tinged house rerub. Groovement Inc's take sits towards the broken beat end of the soulful house spectrum, before Ash Reynold steps up with a Balearic-leaning deep house take that for this reviewer is the pick of the crop.

You're Not Here (Chevals remix) - (5:33) 105 BPM
Review: Vocalist Andre Espeut has appeared on so many Situation releases that we're genuinely not sure if he's officially a member of the band or not! Here they hook up once again, and suffice to say if you've dug any of their previous outings you'll probably be feeling this one too. Situation's uniquely soulful take on contemporary disco/boogie is in full effect on the original, a Vocal Reprise will please the more creative jocks, Ron Basejam drags us into a sweaty basement on his druggier, chuggier rub, and finally fellow scene stalwarts Chevals come with a mellower take that lets the vox and strings shine through.

You Gotta Move - (4:00) 107 BPM
You Gotta Move (Mr M's Electro Rebake) - (4:21) 107 BPM
Review: The Situation crew are taking over the disco-balearic connection, coming through with constant quality, often drenched in a familiar poppy feel that we very much need at this moment of the year. "You Gotta Move" is a slow, funky little number with everything from liquid guitars melting lift, right and centre, to seductive vocals reminiscent of the 1980s. If that wasn't enough, they've recruited a rather fine set of remixers, with the legendary Ashley Beedle spear-heading the festivities with a broken beat monster in a fine boogie style.

Review: York might not be the disco capital of the world, but the way the gang at Alpaca Edits carry on it might just as well be! They've been trotting out world class soul, disco and funk edits for a good while now, and here they deliver the second instalment of their compilation in aid of testicular cancer support. There are 15 quality scalpel jobs this time around, with highlights including the rumbling, evening poolside boogie of "I Need A Drink" by Hotmood, the punchy electro-disco of "Head Lights' by Stephen Richards and the white-hot 70s disco rock of "I'm A Man" Pontchartrain.

Cardmoth - "Six Months" - (4:04) 101 BPM
Review: Since launching as a Tirk sub-label in 2009, Nang Records has gone on to outlive its parent label and become one of the most reliable imprints in nu-disco. The label's progress has traditionally been charted by compilation series The Array, with new volumes appearing every 12 months or so. This latest installment is naturally packed with highlights, from the sparkling disco-soul of Hot Toddy's remix of Situation's Andre Esput hook-up, "Get To Know Me", and the contemporary Italo-disco throb of James Rod's "Steelerr", to the quirky Balearic bliss of Cardmoth, the synth-heavy wooziness of Deepkey, and the trippy, acid-flecked thrills of Aimes' "A View of Istanbul".

Jay Airiness - "Riding" - (4:48) 108 BPM
Review: Spanish producer Rayko has delivered some impressive dancefloor magic courtesy of his Rare Wiri label. Ranging from re-edits to deep nu-disco and everything in between, the imprints sound is all encompassing. That philosophy is fully explored here on Retro Future Disco, bringing all kinds of disco approaches to the table. Highlights include the schmokin' 70s jazz-funk of "Hot Head Disco" by Psychemagik, the legendary Il Flagranti's rare re-edit of new wave classic "Walking In The Rain" by Flash & The Pan and the dreamy, star-crossed synth-pop of "In Your Eyes" by Yam Who? Something for everyone here.

Electric Pendergrass - "Girls Like Me" (original mix) - (5:41) 105 BPM
Bruno Belissimo - "El Origen De Todo" (original mix) - (4:07) 103 BPM
Review: Paper Disco's Trash The Wax compilation series certainly offers a lot of bang for your buck. This fourth installment continues the trend, serving up 22 tried-and-tested dancefloor jams for disco-loving DJs. As usual, the selected tracks are a mixture of killer edits (Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee, Solid State, Electric Pendergrass, DJ Rocca & Chris Massey), sparkling remixes (a tasty '80s electrofunk rework of Reggie Got Beats' "It's On Tonight" by Norwegian eccentric Ralph Myerz), and stellar original productions (see 2 Billion Beats' "Bob", Daco's Gladys Knight-sampling throb-job "I Heard It", Picotropico's decidedly Balearic "Time Will Tell"). There's possibly a little more Italo-disco on this edition, but that's no bad thing - especially as the arpeggio-heavy cuts showcased here are universally excellent.

George Kelly - "Always There" - (4:36) 106 BPM
Review: ChopShop Digital barely deviates from its' well-worn formula, which involves serving up multi-artist EPs full of tried-and-tested reworks. Happily, they're at it again here. BnC kicks things off with the break-driven funk shuffle of "Good Times Roll", before Woodhead & Hebegebe raise the temperature with the heavy funk-goes-Italo-disco surge of "Pony Up". West Country scalpel fiends Situation serve up the dusty soul sweetness of "Change For A Coke", while Senior Citizens attempt to outdo them with the similarly luscious and soulful "The Perfect Plan". Finally, label boss George Kelly steals the show with a killer re-cut of Willie Bobo/Ronnie Laws favourite "Always There".

Cookin' On Love - (3:55) 109 BPM Hot
Gimme Some - (5:46) 100 BPM
Review: Given the usual high quality of their reworks, it's little surprise to see Situation pop up on Alpaca Edits. There's much to admire on this four-track assault of mid-tempo floorfillers, with the Gloucestershire outfit showcasing their shrewd way with a scalpel. They begin with the Rhodes-laden soul shuffle of "Cookin' On Love", before sneakily rearranging a much-loved, synth-heavy boogie banger from Melba Moore to emphasise the killer bassline, sweet vocal and ear-catching guitars ("Moore Melba"). Also impressive is the bluesy, low-slung funk-rock of "Gimme Some", though the standout is undoubtedly "Prancing Mayfield". Expertly stitching together bits of several tunes, it's an altogether more classy proposition that 99% of cut-and-paste efforts.

Hotmood - "Hammond 78" - (5:16) 108 BPM
Review: Reliable jams from a reliable bunch on this reliable compilation from the reliable Deep Sense. Mr Absolutt opens with the P-funky, cosmic number "The Road Club" - perfect for cruising - while Alex Harrington goes a little techier, white noise build up filter house in "Tanlines". FabioLous Barker takes huge inspirations from Ray Parker Jr in his poppy hit "Girls Are More Fun" while Latin guitars are introduced into Situations' "Flying With Wings". Sould Out slows things down in "Feelin' Moody" leaving Delicious to liven things up with a MJ number in "Let's Get Back". Quality productions abound!

Simple Pleasures (instrumental) - (5:03) 104 BPM
Review: Stroud collective Situation has long been among the most reliable re-editors on the nu-disco scene. Further proof that they barely put a foot wrong arrives in the form of "Simple Pleasures", a deliciously jazzy chunk of breezy dancefloor goodness that effortlessly combines glistening guitars, warm organ stabs, shuffling soul breaks and a life-affirming female vocal. For those who can take or leave the vocal, the boys from the Five Valleys have included an excellent instrumental version. There's a tougher, more upbeat remix present, too, with Chop Shop boss George Kelly turning the swinging original into a metronomic disco-house chugger. While good, it lacks a little of the alluring looseness of Situation's original version.

Review: Fingerman's Hot Digits imprint has packed in a lot of releases over the past 12 months, as this expansive roundup of the label's second year in business proves. Featuring 27 tracks and a bonus mix by the South Coast dwelling label boss, there's naturally plenty to admire. Highlights include, but are not limited to, the rolling, head-nodding grooves of Eyeco M's "Keeping It To Myself", the killer proto-house throb of "Tonight" by Bad Barbie vs Evil Smarty, the sexy, string-drenched disco loveliness of P-Sol's "Can't You See", LTJ's trumpet-boasting funk bumper "Fat Thing", and the hard-wired, bass-heavy rework of Julia & Company's "Breakin' Down (Sugar Samba)" by Melon Bomb. There's a mind boggling 27 tracks featured here, a veritable smorgasbord of deliciously disco tuneage. Review: The Cotswolds might not be the first place people think of when discussing summery disco, but sometimes surprises are more fun. Hometown groovers Situation have been steadily earning a solid reputation for slick nu-disco jams. "Hurricane" is their latest missive, a sparse clavinet-driven groove with the dreamy vocals of Lauren Rimmell floating on top. There are lots of great mixes too including the skippy house vibes of the NY Club mix and Yam Who?'s super smooth rework of TWI.

Review: West Country nu-disco dons Situation are the latest outfit to and compile and mix an installment of Nang's popular Beach Disco Sessions series. Happily, they've dug deep into their crates, putting together a selection that blends back catalogue material from the Nang and Tirk labels (Ruf Dug's quirky mix of Klein & MBO's Italo-disco classic "Dirty Talk", the blissful nu-Balearica of Sorcerer, AN2's overlooked rework of Space's "Carry On, Turn Me On") with vintage material and overlooked gems from a decade of nu-disco (see the early Hans-Peter Lindstrom remix of Fuzz Against Junk's "Country Clonk"). Naturally, there are a few of their own tracks and remixes in there, too, including the deliciously woozy deep house cut "Here Comes The Sun" and a sublime, string-drenched remix of Love/Money's "Strange Kind of Love".

Dr Packer - "Always" - (5:44) 100 BPM
Review: Fingerman's Hot Digits imprint has always reflected his production style, delivering releases that gleefully blur the boundaries between re-edits, remixes and original material, and blend elements of disco, funk, soul, boogie and deep house. This groovy, warm and floor-friendly formula is much in evidence on this first anniversary compilation. Featuring a blend of previously released gear, exclusives and a bonus DJ mix from Fingerman, Hot Digits: Year One is an effortlessly entertaining collection. There's naturally much to admire, from the subtle house beats and P-funk synths of Fingerman's own "Shine Yo Litez" (a rework of an old Grangers tune), and the disco-funk chunkiness of Groove Motion's "Party Now", to the compressed, dubbed-out disco house madness of Chewy Rubs' "Let It Go".

Review: DJ Butcher's excellent re-edit label Chopshop has entertained many different takes on disco, but has yet to tackle dub. Until now that is. Here we get four different artists all delivering some seriously dubbed out sonic adventures. Voodoo Whiskey goes first with the seriously cool, low-slung funk haze of "Cairo", while DJ Ace's "Viva La Raza" manages to combine Balearic beats with very light reggaeton vibes. Situation take it further with a totally toasted version of The Rolling Stones' "Under My Thumb", whilst the label boss himself wraps up things with the laid back, glistening electro-funk of "No Taboos".
