Review: Although sounding like the corny conclusion to the old God is a DJ line, Music Is A Miracle is the much more credible new LP from rising producer, Marco Biagini aka Kellerkind. From his nu-disco roots, Biagini has forged a new hybrid sound, fusing deep house grooves with flickers of disco and boogie. Highlights on this impressive long player include the perkier Metro Area-esque "Don't' You Know It", the slinky hip-house of "Give Me The Beat Back", the skippy garage of the title track and the Mood Music style, velvety electro-house of "Take This Higher".

Review: Edu Imbernon comes from a house background, but has often presented his work in a pop context. "Things I Do" is your classic electro-house as defined in the mid-noughties post electroclash era. In other words it's electro-pop, only deeper and more housey - with Sutja Gutierrez's breathy vocal laments wafting over dreamy synths and a driving 4/4 beat. Remix-wise, Teenage Mutants and Lars Moston provide a tingly, touchy-feeley retro house version, while Los Suruba represents the often forgotten minimal house contingent.

Review: It sounds like German label Stil Vor Talent have a late contender for house release of 2012 on their hands. "Rej Senhor" evolves from a stripped back groove into a warm, full-blooded Latino affair, its sensuous guitar playing underpinning Narra's sensuous, velvety vocals. But that's not all: "Cold World" (which sonically speaking, sounds the opposite of its title) features a dusty bass and seductive piano keys that roll in, both melancholic and strangely uplifting at the same time. Finally, "Raoui" may not be the most immediate track, but it's this writer's favourite due to its loose, live clapping, subtle acoustic guitar strumming and a spine-tingling vocal delivered in an obscure language.

Review: Having previously guested on the mic for the likes of Dominik Eulberg and label boss Oliver Koletzki, Fran lets rip with her own solo album. With every flavour of the pop and electronic rainbow, it's a hard piece of work to pin down. One moment we're rocking to a fiddle-flicked country stomp ("Down"), the next we're jiving to a classic Kelis riff ("JayJay"), the next we're swept away in an emotional rush a la Kate Bush (the wonderfully titled "Cheesecake Mountain"). One thing that keeps the myriad styles in check is Fran's powerful vocal delivery. Think Annie, think a slightly diluted Bjork, think 'a jolly worthwhile album experience'.

Review: It sounds like Stil Vor Talent have a big hit on their hands. In its original format, Dogs is dominated by a reflective piano line, breathy female vocal claiming that 'you've made your bed now lie in it', and a warm, rich bass. Hvob has managed to achieve that rare feat of mixing live elements with housey grooves without the end result coming across like a shambolic mess. The label has also commissioned some club-friendly but respectful remixes. The Niko Schwind version focuses on the vocals and plaintive pianos, underpinning them with loose, tribal beats, while Oliver Koletzki's version also pushes these elements to the fore. On that occasion however, the groove is more rolling and tinged with a hint of niggling acid.

Review: The cover art makes reference to the children's classic story about a little girl chasing a white rabbit, and there's certainly a sense of the surreal about this release. "Scope" is a pulsing underground house groove, its grungy bassline and muffled but insistent bassline making for the perfect accompaniment for those 'lost it' moments on the dance floor. "Evil" is another malevolent track, but this time, grainy riffs and jagged percussive licks that accompany the tub thumping, rolling drums. "Feelings" features a rolling, tribal groove and is more laid back than the first two tracks as a funk guitar sample and sensuous disco strings prevail. "Delight" is cut from a similar cloth, and its sax stabs and deep chords underpin an infectious 'hey hey' vocal sample.

Review: Edu Imberon dips his toes into the waters of pop music on "Inside". The bassline is lazy but somewhat malevolent and is supported by thundering claps and a sweeping synth that divebombs in over the arrangement like a hungry flock of seagulls. Yet despite this resolutely underground backing, Imbernon makes space for Triumph's breathy, androgynous vocals and a trippy synth that oozes melodies. The remixes push "Inside" to a poppy place; Kellerkind's version contains a fluid electro bassline and some spacey synths, with the vocal turned into an effortlessly narcotic experience, while the Niko Schwind version has a distinctly 80s flavour thanks to its 808 drums and new romantic synths.

Review: It sounds like the German label could have a big hit on their hands here. "Awake" is a subtle fusion of the Kompakt shuffle and German minimal house traditions, as doubled up drums bring subtle acoustic guitar flourishes and Blomqvist's falsetto to a climax. Meanwhile "Something Says" comes across like Superpitcher in more grounded form than usual thanks to its heavy claps and bubbling bassline. However, it's the title track that may well enter the pop charts. Starting ff with stripped back beats, it progresses to reveal a breathy vocal, draped by beautiful piano and lush strings. Blomqvist's tones are understated and androgynous, but "Ink" has an intangible, magical quality that will endear it to a wider audience.

Review: Has Stil Vor Talent gone back in time? On the evidence of Backflash, it sounds like it. The original version is based on a spacey groove and pulsing rhythms, with shiny synths bouncing off the loose groove. It's about as cosmic as contemporary house music gets. Niko Schwind's take is more conventional sounding, but he also uses a breathy vocal intoning the mantra 'got to get it' and a teased out rhythm to create a similar effect. "Disco Light" and "Down To" are more contemporary sounding, but there are also references to the past, in the shape of the Chicago claps on the former and the sensuous disco strings on the latter.

Review: This German label may be associated with minimal and trancey Germanic house, bt this release shows that it is concerned with documenting a far wider set of sounds. "Love Me" is a captivating serving of narco-house, its acid-soaked fiters and shimmering chords sounding all the more alluring as the vocal asks the question 'how do you want me to have trust?' By contrast, Oliver Kotzletzki's take on "Liar" goes back to the 80s to revive electro funk basslines and poppy synths, while the Dan Caster remix of "Run Away" is a plaintive, piano-led groove. If there is one recurring sound however, it is the darker, moodier end of house and the rolling rhythms of Florian Meindl's take on "Little Love" bears this out.

Review: Listening to this split release, it sounds like mnml never went away - it just grew up and became more diverse. "Don't Stop" by Dupree is based on a typical stop-start, stuttering mnml groove, but it also swells to a climax with some warm chords. The same producer's "Step by Step" is also based on clicking, hiccupping rhythms, but the bassline is muscular and robust - the polar opposite of emasculated white noise pap. Lesosvsky also impresses with his reinvention of stripped back techno and both "Tanzholz" and "Crystal Clock" climax to the sound of epic, trancey chords - the shards of gltchy percussion that follow in their wake a reminder of the space in which Lesosvsky's thought patterns originated.

Review: Niko Schwind is one of the new stars on Stil Vor Talent and on the evidence of this second release, there is no doubt that his reputation is deserved. "Back From The Bar" is a relatively standard minimal house arrangement, but Schwind stands out from the crowd thanks to his use of tasteful jazz keys and infectious filters. "Don't Turn The Lights On" sees Schwind impress further with a dark disco riff and some atmospheric horns, but the best tracks are "Master Of Ceremony" and "Good Morning". "Ceremony" is a drummy affair with irresistible sax samples and sensuous piano lines, while "Morning", which features Fran on vocals, is a dubbed out, delectable disco groove.

Review: New talent Niko Schwind provides a fresh take on minimal house for Oliver Koletzki's label. "Good Midnight" is a rolling, drum-heavy groove, but it's the use of dramatic woodwind samples that sets it apart. Every bit as suspense-laden as a scene from Die Hard, they give the track a real sense of adventure. "Shine" is slower and more groovy, with Schwind combining an infectious disco riff with soulful piano tinkling, while "Wake Up", featuring Stellar, follows this approach to its logical conclusion. Combing stacatto drums with jazzy keys, the end result is uplifting and swinging, yet boasting enough substance to rock the dancefloor. David August also delivers a killer, bass-heavy remix of "Good Morning".

Review: Like so many of his minimal contemporaries, Dapayk Solo aka Niklas Worgt has attempted to move from stripped back rhythms into more soulful house territories. However, unlike most of his peers, Worgt is one of the few artists who has successfully achieved this transition. It is evident on Let Go, where the dense drums and insane squealing sax of "Upyo" recalls classic Derrick Carter and the airy strings and rolling groove on "Nekan" has echoes of late 90s London tech-house. The best indictment of Worgt's shift is the title track, where hissing percussion and insistent chord builds show a rawness lacking in nearly all nouveau deep house productions.

Review: "Caje" looks set to provide Alexander Gerlach and Sascha Hirtenfellner's Nicone project with its biggest hit to date. Revolving around the simplest idea, its rolling, filtered tech-house groove underpins Narra's unforgettable vocal. The label should also be commended for the catch-all appeal of the remixes: Adam Port's take is more drum-heavy than the original and its insistent bassline will prove popular with tool house DJs. Pan Pot meanwhile, deliver a version that updates the classic Lil Louis sound, its building chords and subtle filters including snippets of the original vocal and guaranteeing its effectiveness, while the Dirty Doering take is targeted at underground DJs, its panning tunnel of acid-flecked sounds ideal for fans of James Ruskin and Mike Parker.

Review: If you're going to base a release around samples, it is only fair to make the best and cleverest uses out of your chosen source material. It's an approach that Bruch & Junior have adopted on "Runway", and it pays dividends. The title track is a firing percussive affair, but the soulful vocal sample lends it a soulful, old school feeling that so many contemporary 'tool' tracks lack. Likewise "Seat No Fastbelt", which revolves around another familiar vocal sample, while the organ solo on "Whatcha Want" is reminiscent of Jaydee's classic "Plastic Dreams". Best of the lot though is "Jazzbians", which samples a jazz piano solo that is then filtered and looped, building gradually through the arrangement until it becomes the focal point. A job well done.
