Review: No matter how much rare stuff gets released in this information age, there's always some even more obscure cool material yet be unearthed. Here obscure 70s LA outfit 4th Coming get the re-issue treatment: an out-there musical core consisting of Henry 'Hank' Porter, Jechonias 'Jack' S. Williams and a rotating cast of musicians, they released a handful of rare 7"s before disappearing. It wasn't until the 90s when fan DJ Shadow started bigging them up, and now we get a full collection that enables us all to finally enjoy their weird and wonderful grooves.

Review: With UKG being the undeniable sound of the UK underground dance scene right now, compilations such as this latest box from R U SRS are an absolute gold mine for DJ's across the country, with this particular collection featuring 26 rave-ready belters. Artist wise, the quality level is looking super high, with the likes of Romey, BWK Project, Brent Kilner, Jay Ward and more all lending their hands, with the overall energy levels being through the roof. Although there are a lot of top quality drops to choose from, our highlights would have to include the free-roaming synth warbles of Kusha's 'Be Free', next to Syneater's wonky sound design across 'Feel Good' and Jay Colyer's sub-heavy bumper in 'Don't Want Me'. A very tasty affair.

Review: Strut's archival remit remains as international as ever, with their latest compilation squaring the focus on late '70s Hawaii on the delightful Aloha Got Soul: Soul AOR & Disco In Hawai'i 1979-1985. Across the backdrop of societal change on the island (statehood into America in '59 and the Vietnam War) Hawaiian youth found inspiration in the music of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and later Earth Wind & Fire leading to a truly vibrant scene by the mid-'70s. Review: Fresh from the runaway success of his brilliant "Sunny Bigler" single, Leon Sweet has been installed as the man behind the decks for the second volume of Paper Disco's Trash The Wax series. Sweet's two-hour DJ mix is excellent, of course, but it's the unmixed tracks - a combination of unheard bits and recent Paper gems - that make this compilation essential. Expect a range of re-edits and original tracks that variously touch on nu-disco, Italo, boogie and, of course, house. Review: Aussie disco don Dr Packer has been Glitterbox Recordings' go-to remixer for some time now. Three years ago, the label opened up its archives and allowed him free reign to rework whatever he wanted, releasing the results as Dr Packer's Different Strokes. This belated sequel follows a similar blueprint, collecting together a wealth of remixes as well as a couple of non-stop DJ mixes of the same material. Much of the music is authentically disco-centric - think organic instrumentation, swirling strings and rushing vocals - with just enough grunt to please those dancefloors the require 21st century low-end weight. Review: It may have taken eight years, but Joey Negro has finally got round to putting together a follow-up to his superb Backstreet Brit Funk compilation. Like its predecessor, this sequel shines a light on Britain's under-appreciated musical response to the U.S soul, jazz-funk, disco and electro scenes of the late 70s and early 80s. On the whole, the showcased tracks are altogether deeper selections than those found on volume one, meaning obscure highlights come thick and fast. These include - but definitely aren't limited to - the low-slung disco-funk of Rick Clarke's "Potion", the glassy-eyed breeziness of Paradise's "Stop and Think", the footworker-friendly jazz-funk riot of Touchdown's "Ease Your Mind" and the samba-soaked carnival flavours of "Brazeila" by Brazeila. Oh, and a killer dub of Janet Kay's overlooked Brit-boogie classic "Eternally Grateful" that has never before been released.

Review: Formed in 1970 and fronted by J Plunky Branch, Oneness Of Juju have gone through numerous personnel and name changes over the decades but are still peddling their Afrocentric take on funk and jazz to this day (currently as Plunky & The Oneness). This collection from Strut, though, focuses on their golden years in the 70s - and it's heavy stuff! While one or two tracks would fit nicely into straight-up funk sets, adding a little world flava, others explore model jazz, spoken word, Nyabhingi drumming and other more esoteric musical pastures. Review: The Hotflush name and brand has always been synonymous with futuristic flavour, making this exceptional collection a perfect way to celebrate their success over the years, taking the title 'Post Whatstep?'. The project takes a serious deep-dive into the concept of thinking outside the box, whilst still maintaining genre ties to garage, dubstep and techno throughout. The roster involved is pretty outstanding, with household names such as Scuba, Mount Kimbie, TRG, Dub U and Untold all providing seriously high quality inclusions. There are definitely a few stand out features, with the sweeping synthetic layers of 'Don't You' from George Fitzgerald being an immediate point of interest, next to the heavily sidechained atmospherics of Sepalcure's 'Love Pressure' and the more old school garage chops of Or:la's 'UK Lonely' also setting a high standard. Exceptional work, as we have come to expect from such a critical UK label voice.

Review: An absolute leviathan of a compilation from Project Allout here, and it's just in time for some Christmas cheer from one of the fastest growing UK bass hubs in the game! A tad packed for us to go through it all, but this is guaranteed quality, especially given the fact that the release features plenty of label regulars, new faces and even some pretty incredible cameo appearances from the likes of Caspa, Deadbeat and Dubzta. Each puts in a fine performance, particularly Deadbeat with his "Street Life" cut, a glorious mashup of funky house breaks and wobbled low-end. Be sure to check the licks from Spooky, Mr Dubzta and Tuff Culture, too. Badman vibes and another stunner from Project Allout.
