Review: Valique's V's Edits reworks have long been some of the most popular re-edits on this platform, with DJs responding not only to their floor-friendly nature but also the wide range of sounds and styles he turns his hand to. So, what's on offer this time around? Well, for starters Yellow Blues is raising money for victims of the war in Ukraine, a country to which Valique has family ties. As usual, it's a mixed bag of goodness, with highlights including a squelchy, TB0-303 speckled take on a Johnny Cash classic, the chugging nu-disco/swamp blues fusion of 'Was It Worth It?', a fine revision of Rodrigues classic 'You Can't Get Away', a housed-up tweak of an old Doors gem ('Learn To Forget') and a toe-tapping, club-ready revision of Kenny Rogers' sing-along 'Just Dropped In (to See What Condition My Conidtion is In)'.

Review: Unlike many of its rivals, Fingerman's Hot Digits label doesn't fill its' obligatory annual compilation with back catalogue cuts. Instead, we're offered a vast number of previously unheard re-edits, remixes and original productions. It's a successful blueprint and one religiously adhered to on Hot Digits: Year Seven, the popular imprint's latest must-check collection. There's not enough room to single out every sonic highlight, but our current favourites include the breezy boogie squelch of Ross Fitz's 'I Miss Your Love ('85 Mix)', the driving deep house haziness of Fingerman and Henri Le Blanc's 'Leave Your Cares Tonight', the neo-trance cheeriness of Picklejam's 'Endorphin Situation' and the stab-happy, peak-time house retro-futurism of 'The Feeling' by Downunder Disco.

Review: The titles here might suggest a re-edits EP but rest assured the five tracks ARE actually original, albeit sample-based, productions. 'Step Off The Train', for instance, does indeed bite EBTG's 'Missing' as you'd expect, but simply takes a two-line vocal snip and loops it up over a slo-mo grinder that sits right on the deep house/nu-disco cusp, while 'Oops Upside' is another house/disco fusion that draws not on The Gap Band but on a female-sung cover thereof. So let's not worry about sources and inspirations and just say these are five classy midtempo groovers that'll suit more discerning nu-disco floors down to the ground.

This one comes courtesy of Los Angeles nu-disco wizard Blake Robin aka LUXXURY, who has built up a solid reputation via his method of using the multi-tracks of classic hits to create dubby/slow-mo versions of classics. On TSTD06, we have "Hello My Love" which is a loved-up and low slung slow burner that's worthy tackle for the late night, followed by the romantic '70s swagger of a well known AOR classic on "Baby Please Don't Go (Oooh No)".

Review: Fresh from dropping a pair of fine fusion EPs with Dele Sosimi on Wah Wah 45s, Medlar returns home to Wolf Music Recordings with his most expansive release since 2013 debut album Sleep. In keeping with his musical evolution since then, Aerial is a thrillingly eclectic, colourful and imaginative affair, with Medlar flitting between the Wally Badarou-on-acid vibes of the undeniably cosmic title track; the acid-fired, cowbell-rich strut of 'Iguanadon'; the percussion-rich Dinosaur L mutations of 'Elephant Bingo'; the downtempo jazz-funk of 'Elv'; the late-night, drum machine driven weirdness of 'Cr78-108'; the '89 NYC garage-meets-New Jack Swing flex of 'Phoenix Lights'; and the slow-motion, bass-heavy Balaearica of 'Sin Prisa'. Review: This seven-track collection gathers together the vinyl-only cuts from Georg Levin's 2010 album Everything Must Change, adding various alternate versions and instrumentals. The title track is the former Sonar Kollektiv mainstay's best track since "When I'm With You", his impeccable 2000 debut. It has just the right mix of heartfelt soul, electro-funk swing and smooth dancefloor bump. It's presented here in both vocal and instrumental versions, with the former standing out. Stevie Wonder cover "That Girl" is good fun, too, especially the Dub Mix, which throws in some sprightly house-not-house drums and killer synth bass hooks for a more floor friendly vibe. The EP closes with vocal and instrumental versions of the ultra-smooth "I Need To Understand".

Review: French label Citizens of Vice welcomes the Canary Islands' very own Sauco to the mix with the Sun Goddess EP featuring sleeper hit "Sun Goddess". With the lead track tripping out on flamenco-like guitars, looped disco-machine grooves and balearic synth, it undergoes a funk and ballroom workout in Lanowa's worthy remix. With Rayko dubbing out the guitars, tuning his synths and pumping up the Roland in his Italo-inspired version of "Soulstice", it's the undeniable vamp, build and crescendo of the original within it mega groove that does the trick on us here.

Review: When we are discussing the modern greats of electronic music production, there's no way we can have that conversation without Calibre's name coming into the mix and blend. This brand new album via the team at Signature takes the title 'Feeling Normal' and is a straight up masterclass, from the stunning breakbeat-driven soundscapes of 'Barren' and 'Man Got Sandwich' to the colourful post-garage designs of 'Feeling Normal' and 'Time To Breathe' alongside Cimone. It has a touch of everything and the quality levels just don't seem to dip, regardless of whatever genre or style we are hearing. There are also some serious highlights, with 'Badman' alongside DRS being a somber, post-dubstep homage, 'Has To Happen' being a sumptuous, emotive roller and 'Predictable' being a futuristic steppers delight. Incredible work as expected!

Review: With releases on Redux, Leng, International Feel and Is It Balearic? to his name, Fernando Pulichino's Balearic credentials are not in doubt. It's pleasing, then, to see the sometime 2020 Soundsystem and Silver City member make his bow on Pete Herbert's Music For Swimming Pools label. He delivers a trio of original tracks, beginning with the organ-sporting, bass guitar-propelled mid-tempo warmth of 'Mareas'. He goes deeper and slower still on the sunset soundscape that is 'Venus Banfield', before opting for a more dubbed-out, jazz funk-bass-sporting sound on the gorgeous 'Stations'. Pete Herbert naturally handles remix duties, first delivering a pitched-up, synth-laden nu-disco spin on 'Mareas', before turning 'Stations' into a slow-motion dancing delight.

Review: If you thought the first 'Crazy P Curates' compilations was a wild ride, hold on tight because this one is a rollercoaster through the sonic cosmos. 20/20 Vision Recordings continues to deliver musical treasures, and this fourth volume is a testament to the Notts scene stalwarts' commitment to championing tunes that make you move and groove. Kicking off this sonic escapade is the Scandi-disco maestro Ray Mang, weaving his magic with lush cosmic melodies and nu-disco beats that are so loose-limbed, they could moonwalk on their own. Funk alert: this is not your average trip through the cosmos; it's a funkadelic joyride through the galaxy. Next up, Tigerbalm takes us on a detour to a tropical oasis with "Cosmic Union" featuring the enchanting vocals of Joy Tyson. Afro rhythms and steamy vocals bring the heat. Ruf Dug joins the sonic expedition with "Vape Quarter Rhythm," a mind-bending blend of proto-house and dreamy Italo bliss-out. Closing out this auditory voyage is Ibiza's Tuccillo with "Siroco," a signature Balearic gem that's as carefree as cocktails by the sea at sundown. Review: Released in memory of Andrew Weatheral, IWDG presents a collaboration between his brother Ian Weatheral and Duncan Gray that turns in a cover version of New Order's "In A Lonely Place". Turning in a deep and sidewinding track of pumping toms, treated guitars and electronic drums to the slightest touches of dub, it's given a remix three-way remix hook. Pushing harder at a post punk sentiment, the Hardway Bros Axis dub focus on the original's guitars and bassline, with David Holmes turning in something cooler and kissed by breathy vocals and that classic post-punk inspired touch. Keith Tenniswood adds a percussive rhythm track to his version in addition to setting off a buzz of electronic percolations and cosmic effects. A place for good company.

Review: You've all seen the meme where Batman's punching Robin. Now just imagine Robin's saying "You need lots of elements for a killer dancefloor tra-" and Batman's cutting him off with "No, you just need a rolling funk loop, some sax parps and a few James Brown-style vocal shouts", and you know pretty much all you need to know about 'Cha Ha' - file under "absolute bloody dancefloor devastation ahoy!", whether you opt for the 4:13 Radio Edit or 6:43 Original. The accompanying 'Another Dream' is a pleasant-enough meandering, midtempo instrumental that comes with a spacier, more stripped-back Das Kompex Remix, but it's the title track that's the must-have.

Review: It's been three years since Session Victim's last album, the rather fine "Listen To Your Heart" on Delusions of Grandeur, so this fourth full-length excursion is definitely well overdue. As you'd expect, the music contained in it is as warm, musically rich and intricately detailed as ever, though there are fewer nods to disco, boogie and Balearica than we've come to expect. Instead, they've delivered a smoky, atmospheric and intoxicating collection of cuts that attractively shimmies between drowsy late night house, dreamy electronica, jazz-fired downtempo jams, dusty breakbeat shufflers and the kind of stoned, ultra-deep fare that used to get showcased on F Communications' ace "Mega Soft Office" compilations back in the 2000s.

Review: Safely curating from Montreal a line up of disco, electro and dancefloor tracks to rise from the ashes of the early 2010s, Thomas von Party, aka Tiga's brother, has curated a discography that includes the likes of Zongamin, Golden Bug, Jamie Paton to Sascha Funk and Red Axes. Hybridism presents a second record for Cruz in 2020 and this five-track drop sees the French-Ecuadorian drum up a dubby and jazz-tipped assortment of lo-fi, exotic percussion and space rhythms that remain slow-mo while maintaining their chuggings pulses. 5 stars.
