Review: Twisted Individual's Grid collective collide for another adventure in neck support as the label's flagship Head Nodders series hits its 15th volume. The results always speak for themselves as dons young and old congregate with some fantastic fodder. Juiceman's 'Brutal Nature' sets the levels before Hexa proceeds to bite our heads off with the savage 'Rezura' remix. Elsewhere Milo goes super aggy and cosmic on 'Go Back', Module goes pure sci-fi on 'Weightless' and C-Du brings the EP to a mystical dreamy close with the trippy 'Planck Energy'. This gets the nod from us!

Review: Short Attention, the home to stellar producers like Luke Hess and Santiago Salazar, have put together this split release of new talent. Mane's acid-fried, low-slung roller, "TPB" starts the EP in bugged out mode. The sound of the 303 is also prevalent on Pedro Salgado's "Step 1", but on this occasion, it weaves in and out of rolling electro drums and atmospheric synths. In contrast, Hector Ram's "Rolling 19" sees dubby beats combined with filtered chords, making for a killer deep house cut. Riki's "Narwhals" is of a similar persuasion, albeit with gentle keys bubbling through the arrangement. On "Floating Technique", Alpha also draws on the deeper-than-deep aesthetic, fusing it with a rolling Detroit techno groove.

Review: Whenever the 1Forty banner is raised we know we are in for a good time, with this latest dip into funky and garage being their 9th outing in the genre, delivering another four gems that are sure to cause many a dancefloor ruckus. First up, the ever-ready Logan joins forces with T!M for a sultry, sub-driven slide through broken beat garage themes and hard hitting subs on 'Run Dat', before the classic funky approaches of Murder He Wrote are unveiled on the party starting 'M808'. Next, 'Know Dis' lands from ODF, one of the new school garage leaders, this time focussing on subtle subs and tidy breaks work, before Richard Wright unleashes some serious speedyg flavours on 'Deja'. Awesome stuff!

Review: Sprechen are never afraid to explore electronic music's more leftfield, arty fringes, and you'll find plenty of such shenanigans on this new six-track V/A. Coyote kicks us off with the downtempo drifter 'Cami De Sa Veleta'. Things then get a little more cinematic on La Guardia De La Luz's 'Los Eiyani' before Mummy's Boy's 'Giddy Up' provides the EP's only real dancefloor moment. Popsneon then channel 80s Visage vibes on 'Caffeine Detox', MinimalArchiv's 'The Weak And The True' marries sweeping synths to glitchy beats, before it's back over to La Guardia De La Luz for the inevitable epic closer, 'Libertad'.

Review: Laurent Garnier and Scan X's label does a great job in showcasing emerging and established talent, and this split release is no exception. The brilliantly named Return Of The Luddites deliver the raw electro-techno of "Scream Into The Darkness". In stark contrast, Detroit techno-inspired tracks also loom large, courtesy of Skatman's string-filled "Tribute To A Dancefloor" and Squal G's more ominous "Waiting 4U". Mirroring Garnier's own wide-ranging tastes, the release also features the call and response hip-hop/drum'n'bass crossover of Joaquim Plossu, Salem Focus and Phoebe Train's "Theory Of The Tide". Taking the tempo down, Yes Basketball's "Next" is a slowed down, bugged out beatsy track.

Review: Apparel Music's latest compilation series, Coffee Club, has been designed to showcase "laidback vibes and soulful grooves" of the sort that can provide the perfect accompaniment to supping on a latte, long black or double espresso. The six tracks on show on volume one undoubtedly hit this brief, with highlights including the sinewy, ultra-deep, sunrise house wooziness of Apparel Wax's '0091A', the vibraphone-laden, early St Germain-esque wonder of 'Soul Haze' by Sek, the jazzy and dubby lusciousness of Sune's 'En Saga', and Girls of the Internet's deep, dusty and chunky remix of 'Everytime' by Jason Heresco, where vintage female vocal snippets, tactile electric piano chords and a jazzy bassline all catch the ear.

Review: Hitting us like clockwork, every three months since last October, Exit 100 EPs have been an exceptional journey into the label and everything it's stood for since launching 21 years ago. Over the last two EPs we've had all kinda of beat wizardry and boundary burning but for this one it's all about the cutting edge drum & bass. Each cut is a highlight but Loxy & Resound's 'Tyranny' is a direct trip back to 97, Skeptical & Kid Drama's 'Scorn' is a hearty homage to Krust and Mark System's 'Chinook' is every bit the take-off tune you'd expect from it title. Get to the chopper!

Review: Next up from the awesome Wot U Sayin imprint, a vibrant collection of dancefloor ready bubblers, seeing five artists land with their front foot forward. We open up with De Flurb, arriving with a crunchy combination of neurotic synthesiser twists and 2 stepper rhythmic feels, followed by both the breaksy abandon of Lexiecode's 'Skanky Girl' and heavily syncopated subby sinks of 'Spicy Dust' from Outselect. Finally, two additional rollers make their way forward, with Littlefoot's square-bass driven pulsar in 'Final Hourz' and Haavo's super spacey soundscaping on 'Outcome' providing the EP's final tasty touches. Top work!

Review: Mexican label Short Attention have just a handful of vinyl releases to their name and now step out into the digital arena for the very first time. Like their previous wax outings, SAD001 is a Various Artists offering and highly eclectic in style, ranging from DJ Dreamer's pacey, almost juke-ish house opener with its nostalgically rave-y female vocal, via Groove Selecta's deep and mellow 'Bamboo', to the more melodic stylings of Vantane's 'Hommage to John', synth-y Detroit-inspired techno from Daemian and WhoreHouse Sequences and the ruff 'n' raw breakbeat house of Kanyalang!'s 'Destroyer Of Worlds'. Always good to support new labels, so get involved!

Review: Duploc continues its high-impact run of releases with this brand new compilation drop entitled 'XLPHX', welcoming six of its regular hard-hitters inside to again deliver naught but heavyweight energy. We open up with the scuttling, metallic synthesiser squeezes of Hypho arriving on 'Left Lung', closely followed by the combined bass mastery of Wraz. & Substance on the grizzly soundscapes of 'Minotaur'. Next, Subculture unleashes the creeping, super-eerie arrangements of 'Camelot', with the more percussively-driven rhythms of Criso's 'Bout This' in hot pursuit. Finally, the gnarly horn & bass combinations of Morning High's 'Talk Is Cheap' original closes the project out in style, again showcasing just why Duploc are on top of the dubstep tree.

Review: Two years ago, Luv Shack celebrated turning ten with the release of 'Retroscope', a killer collection of reworks of classic cuts from the catalogue. This sequel repeats the formula, delivering five more fresh revisions of Luv Shack classics. Polish cosmic disco superhero Das Komplex steps up first with a typically trippy, dubbed-flecked nu-disco take on Jakobin's 'See Me Through', before Rosa Red reaches for psychedelic TB-303 lines and hot-stepping beats on a pitched-up revision of 'If You' by Ken Hayakawa and Lee Stevens. The latter's LeSale hook-up 'LuvSick' is then re-imagined as a dark Italo throbber by Tomasz Guiddo. To round things off, Stevens joins forces with Local Suicide on an Italo-meets-deep synth-pop revision of Burnin' Tears' 'Permanent Midnite' before Local Suicide delivers a moodier and sleazier solo take on the same track.

Review: Planet Rhythm continues its commitment to supporting new artists on this fine split release. Shabaam & Aladarus kick-start the EP with "Colossal", their debut for the label. Led by surging chords and tight percussive bursts, it lives up to its title. Lenny San's "Orbital" follows in a similar vein, albeit with a more intense take, as chords bluster and build over tough kicks and insistent hi hats. OFF / GRID, who has become a regular artist on Planet Rhythm, fuses tight percussion and steely drums with a looped synth on "Inner City Blues". Maintaining this tough but musical theme, Rove Ranger's "Onakum" integrates vocal snatches with hissing hi hats and dubby stabs.

Review: Nu Groove Records delivers another gem with "Nu Groove Edits, Vol. 4," a compilation that breathes new life into classic tracks from the label's illustrious history. This release spotlights the artists who shaped the legendary NYC label, offering re-interpretations by leading selectors of today. It kicks off with "Tonight's The Night" by NYC favorites How & Little (The Sound Vandals), given a fresh treatment by Italian duo NiCe7. The track retains its original charm while incorporating contemporary production elements, setting the tone for the rest of the journey. N.Y. House'n Authority's seminal "APT. 2A" gets reworked by UK deep tech aficionado Hugo Massien, resulting in a deeper, more introspective version that retains the groove of the original. The collection also features a remix of The Utopia Project's "File #3" by Mak & Pasteman, showcasing their signature blend of soulful vocals and driving basslines. Then it closes with a bang with the duo Honey Dijon & Luke Solomon re-imagining A.B.T.'s "Luv 2 Luv U." Their edit infuses the track with irresistible energy, making it a guaranteed dance floor mover.

Review: This time around from Bait, we have a very tidy collection indeed as four heavyweight names touch down as part of the 'Baby Steps VEP' collection. We open up with the dubwise influences and marching drum lines of 'Late Steps' from Quasar, a fiery introduction packing a super subby punch, before Orchid then unloads a crunching roller in 'Burning Steppes', again upping the energy levels. From here, Moriiiis J arrives with a more minimal set up on 'I.A.F.G', a smokey slink through unique atmospherics and drum ideas, with Agon & Celine B then teaming up on 'Drifted' to give us a jittering, glitter-fueled finale, rounding off this unique collection with some real panashe.

Review: Freerange Recordings takes us on a vibrant exploration of Johannesburg's musical landscape with "City To City: Johannesburg," a compilation featuring various artists. This diverse collection pulsates with energy, capturing the spirit of the city's dynamic and ever-evolving music scene. The journey begins with "Icey Baby" by KaySoul, a track that lives up to its name. Soulful vocals and sensitive production create a chilled and introspective atmosphere. SculpturedMusic takes a turn with "Midnight Talk," their signature deft pads shimmering over soft kicks, painting a sonic picture of a late-night cityscape. Then SizLeCaude's "Far Apart" injects a dose of energy with its driving bassline. Review: The 3 Feet Deep have now unveiled a very exciting collection of original flavour, as they unveil this jaw-dropping 'Made In France' compilation, which opens up with the super smokey pad sweeps and groovy drum textures of Bernado's 'Bells Of Death', setting the tone very nicely from the jump. Next, Enrico Dragony gives us an old school thumper in 'The Special East', followed by DJ W!LD's more choppy bubbler in 'Blah Blah Fuckin Blah'. To close, Stefan Dubs firstly steps up on 'Awaken Dub', a Tempa-style throwback, packed to the rafters with warbling LFO madness and digitised horn themes, before the smoother electronic textures of Pepe Elle's 'Get Rockin' let's loose a top notch swan song to close things off. Awesome work!

Review: Following the release of a fine solo EP from Lovanda, Iner's DOBRO label returns to the multi-artist EP blueprint on which it built its' reputation. It's a typically strong offering all told, with no less than six cuts on offer. Check first Classonix's 'Samba Collective', a brilliantly jaunty, percussive, and sun-soaked slab of Summery excellence, before turning your attention to the sample-heavy Afro-house of Anton Mo ('African Mania'), and the low-slung, low-tempo headiness of 'Son 3' by Lavrutz. Elsewhere, classic US deep house vibes are provided by Redgz Franklin and UC Beatz ('For The Music'), Tiptoes reaches for driving beats, woozy chords and weighty sub-bass ('Baby Ting'), and Triem re-invents 'French Touch' house for the 21st century ('Saghalian Love').

Released back in 2014, 'Badboy' was the tune that changed the game for DJ Hybrid and boosted him to the levels he's known and respected at to this day, how he's celebrating its legacy with a series of outstanding remixes from some very talented artists including Zapya, Bish, Toby Ross, Kartoon and Lavery. Highlights range from the modern day rave slappery from Zapya, the slower breakbeat bubbles from Toby Ross, Bish's steamroller session, Lavery's face-melting drum work and Kartoon going for a classic jungle twist. Review: Reptile Mob have landed, a fabulous new imprint, looking to dive into the deepest realms of UKG with a fiery introductory release, welcoming five garage troopers inside to deliver a frankly wonderful collection. Firstly, Highrise touches down for a moody slide through chord-driven grooves and sub-heavy backdrops on 'Don't Know It', with 'On The Shores' giving us an even silkier follow up from Sky Joose. Next, Johnny U-Tah unleashes a crunchy fusion of distant digital saxophone lines and uplifting melodic jaunts on 'Voices In My Head', with The Thunderkats providing a slightly slower groove next on the shimmering synth work of 'Melatron'. Finally, Jay Ward unloads 'Everything That I Need', an old school roller that works some smooth magic to round off this initial collection in style.

Whatever you personally call it, you can find plenty of it across this sick six track collection featuring a wide range of exciting and inspiring D&B talents such as Muzo, Damageman, Spexion, Juiceman, Gravit-e and Module. As you'd expect from Grid, the vibes are forward-thinking, unruly and uncompromising with highlights such as 'Bongo Killer' and 'Animalistickz' really pushing the boundaries and dynamics of dancefloor grot. Review: Back with a second edition as quick as their first, Reptile Mob returned in top form for the second edition of their 'REPWIND' series, unloading five more heavyweight garage weapons. We begin with Groovy D, an obvious high flyer within the UKG space, who delivers a dancefloor-ready bop in 'Outta My Mind', focussing on smooth sub work, before Highrise arrives for a follow up addition entitled 'Break Down', giving us some serious nostalgic flavour. From here, Dubplate Pressure arrives for a synth laden slink through choppy drums and moody LFO's on 'The Outlaw, with Duskope & Jay Ward's 'Way You Love' following up with moody synth designs and classic UKG samples all working in tandem. Finally, DJ Crisps gives us a more broken-beat chopper named 'I Believe', focusing on euphoric vocal displays to close the EP out in style.

Review: Marcel Fengler's HARDPROOF series continues its impressive stride into the new year with its fourth edition, featuring five original tracks by Sons Of Hidden, Rey Brennan, JANEIN, Mathys Lenne, and Jay York. From the pulsating energy of "Forgotten Garden" by Sons Of Hidden to Rey Brennan's relentless "Defender" with its savage low-frequency power, the VA delivers a diverse yet cohesive blend of minimal techno potency. JANEIN's "Perseids" takes listeners on a hypnotic tribal-tinged journey, while Mathys Lenne's "Lisa" offers ominous vibes and industrial grooves. Jay York closes the release with "Halsey," featuring an alien feel and narcotic musicality against a backdrop of stadium-sized beats. Review: Riva Starr's label comes good with another fine split release. With a focus on minimal house, Volume 2 has enough range and diversity to keep even the most discerning DJ engaged. Sebastian Xottelo's "Trick Trick" integrates creaking percussion and crackling electronic riffs into its rolling rhythm. Chicago influences bubble to the surface on Fabio Ferro's "I Have Some". Led by an insistent groove and peppered with disco samples and organ stabs, it's redolent of classic DJ Sneak. And for those who like minimal with dubbed out influences, the walking bass and trippy vocals of Diego Cardarelli's "Organ Jordan" is the track of choice on this EP.

Review: Now this is how you kick off a brand new year! Good 4 Nothing smash down the doors of 2024 with nasty intent as they rally up a squad of exciting new generation troops for this vividly titled VA 'Horrible'. Horrid highlights include the electrifying riffage and energy of Insightz' 'Danger', the howling textures and abrasive funk of Eski B's 'Gudunka' and the gamified drama and vibrancy of Flint's 'Heaven'. That's only three of the eight tracks on offer here as Good 4 Nothing leave us under no illusions as to how they want this new year to sound. Horrible times call for 'Horrible' music and we are here for it!

Review: What a cracking year 2023 has been for the OnlyDrums collective. Wallop after wallop, smash after smash, every release from the label has been check-on-sight and this VA of brand new originals is definitely no exception. Representing the new-gen to the max, cuts like NTG & Masson's high voltage 'Last Vice', Decrypt's addictive low-slung mischief-maker 'Everything I Do' and the wild rasping laser bass of Zootie & Masimba's brilliantly titled 'Daddy's Got A Gun' all fire with a fresh unruly energy and that's barely scratching the surface of this exceptional collection. We can't wait to see what OnlyDrums bring in 2024!

Review: Still truckin' and rock solid as always is Planet Rhythm - a label continuously delivering new releases and consistently holding its position in unearthing emerging talents that are shaping the future of robust, diverse techno. This Risk Management EP serves us four more numbers and kicks off with its man of the hour, klint, with a pumping industrial groove track "Flacon". Linear System teams up with Kimahri on a wet and atmospheric "Vessel" while the title-track of this EP goes to Rove Ranger's dank and tunnelling lead cut - followed by some deep and Detroit inspired "Line Of Sight" by Red Rooms.

Review: The latest release on Uncanny Valley is a more frenetic affair than usual for the seminal imprint. Ostreaktor's "Chord Runner" is a high-paced, chord-heavy techno track that unfolds to the sound of high-speed percussion. Upping the tempo, Paracek & Palastoni's "Sabroso" is a riotous ghetto techno track that features wild Latino vocals and celebratory shrieks. While the release doesn't scale those high tempos again, it does feature an electro banger in the shape of Conform & K Bye's "Bad Bitch Magic (dub mix)". That sound reaches its logical conclusion on Alphonsine Koh's "No Need For Speed", where rave riffs squeal their way over distended percussive shards.

Review: When 1Forty decide to put together a bass EP, they do it in style, with this 9th edition of their bass compilation series unveiling four old school warblers. We open up with the explosive combinations of Avaword & TRC, who deliver a niche-inspired throwback, lashed together with high energy LFO sweeps and aggressive vocal displays, followed by the dancefloor rumbling rolls of 'Don't Run', seeing Killjoy & Manny Mashup join forces in style. Next, more old school flavour as 'Warpin' Hell' sees J69 strip the sound back to its roots, followed by a more futuristic look at 4x4 from IndiAlman & Arth.exe entitled 'Tooled Up', closing off this project with a dash of new energy.

Review: Alex Niggeman has gone all-out on the 10th anniversary celebrations of his AEON label. Having already released countless special EPs featuring new tracks from core artists, he's now serving up a pair of releases featuring fresh reworks of classic cuts from the catalogue. There's much to admire on this second EP of two, starting with Running Back boss Gerd Janson's throbbing, Italo-meets-acid house style revision of Niggeman's own 'Just a Little', featuring bright, freestyle-esque synth lead lines and an atmospheric spoken word vocal by Jonny Cruz. Fedele delivers a dirty, hypnotic and warehouse-ready take on 'Serpentine' by Darlyn Vlys, before Aera steal the show with a tribal-tinged early morning tech-house revision of Musumeci & Aldebaran's 'Escape'. Dodi Palese's EP-ending, melody-rich rework of Jepe's 'Ginevra' is pretty darn tasty, too.

Review: NINETOZERO is a label that will deliver no more than 10 releases in its life-span, so it's not wasting any time or space with who it works with. Drawing from a largely Italian association this time around, Enrico Sangiuliano goes dark and industrial in his electro-tipped "Glitch In Time", while Antonio D'Africa & Sall get their crunch and phasers on in "Skylark". Mattia Saviolo goes sharp and percussive in his electrical "Distant Memories" cut, while taking up that final piece of real estate is the Detroit influences of Alex Lentini & STOMP BOXX's "Diagonal Matrix".

Review: Dam Swindle's Heist Recordings celebrate their 10th anniversary this year, and here we have the fourth in a series of EPs marking that milestone. The EP opens with the surging, pulsing 'Alfa' from Crackazat with its insistent, rolling piano line, before Andy Hart injects a little old school funk/soul flava on 'Epsilon Girls'. Makez's 'Different Planets' adds an Afro-style chant to the classic deep house blueprint, Kassian take us into more stripped-back territory with the fluid '8th Movement' and its familiar "music!" vocal sample, before Nachtbraker play us out with 'Hamdi', a slightly more leftfield, bottom-heavy shuffler. The quality standard is high throughout, so here's to another decade!

Review: Running Back's popular multi-artist series returns. As with its predecessors, EP six boasts a wealth of previously unreleased treats from label regulars and hand-picked guests. The EP begins with a deliciously colourful piano house explosion courtesy of Llewellyn ('For The Weekend') and ends with the tactile, mid-80s, Pet Shop Boys-esque instrumental synth-pop excellence of Senor Chugger and Count Van Delicious's amusingly titled 'Micket's Vegan Fillet'; in between, you'll find some dark, driving and percussive sweatiness (the rave-igniting 'Radius' by Ede), a dash of EBM-goes-electroclash (Zillas on Acid's 'Pleatherhead'), a spot of Latin freestyle-meets-proto-house fun (Stereocalypse's 'Mad Theory') and a storming, hard-to-pigeonhole chunk of retro-futurism by Storken and Hammer ('Marabou').

Review: Italian label Mondo Groove (part of the Cinedelic family) bring us a six-track collection of obscure female-vocalled cuts from early 80s Italy, with tracks ranging from the gloriously camp Italo-disco of Gioia's "No Secrets" to the straight-up synth-pop of Patrizia Pellegrino's "Bandito" via the cod calypso of Laura Bitto?s "Trinidad" and the Laura Branningan/Pat Benatar-isms of Virna Anderson's "Life Sound". Those with a strong aversion to gorgonzola and mozzarella should probably steer clear but if you can handle the Eurovision-ish aftertaste then Simona Gay's "This Night" has a certain wry charm.

Review: DJ Zent serves up our five a day right here with "Juicy Fruits Vol 1", a brand new VA repping a cross section of flavours across the Dreambass cooking cabinet. Jayline & Mawh set the scene with pure drama on "Epic Movie Trailer" before the likes of Veak, D Zire, Dubbage and Zent himself all deliver some high grade bruisers. From the creepy twists of "Trouble" to the triumphant thrust of "Mi Nah Fear" to Natty D's purring vocals on "Truth & Rights", this is one of the most accomplished EPs Dreambass have released to date.

Review: Taking their name from a 1957 Sun-Ra album, Super-Sonic Jazz are an Amsterdam-based record label and events organisation, built to support "exciting and innovative artists who move within the universe of jazz". Closely linked with the city's legendary Paradiso venue, here they present the latest in a series of EPs showcasing the work of associated artists. Cuts range from the moody, cinematic "June Hill" by Radiohop, via melancholy soul-jazz from Tallulah Rose, to abstract bruk-isms from Sitkamer and Quanza, before the EP's completed by what to these ears is the clear stand-out, fast and furious jazz-dancer "Dragons Dance" by Imaginarium.

Review: "Nu Groove Edits, Vol 1" pays tribute to the iconic NYC record label that has enchanted music enthusiasts for generations. At the forefront of this compilation is Rheji Burrell, the champion of the quintessential New York house sound. Alongside his twin brother Rhano, the Burrell brothers played a pivotal role in shaping and defining the signature Nu Groove sound. Under various monikers, four of which are featured here, they left an indelible mark on the label and the house music scene at large. The journey begins with Bruise, aka Christian Campbell, an underground pioneer, taking on Burrell's 'Secret Code' released under his Jazz Documents alias. This re-edit breathes new life into the track, infusing it with contemporary energy while retaining the essence of its original form. Next up, the anonymous Berlin duo Acid Jerks tackle the deep house gem 'Tech Trax Inc.' by the eponymous pseudonym. Their re-edit embraces the essence of the original track, enhancing its hypnotic qualities and taking listeners on a mesmerizing journey through pulsating rhythms and immersive soundscapes. House purist Phil Weeks works his magic on Houz' Neegroz's 'All Night Long,' featuring vocals from Quiana. Weeks' rework showcases his dedication to preserving the soulful essence of the original, infusing it with his signature touch and creating a dancefloor-ready anthem that pays homage to the roots of house music. Rounding out this diverse collection of reimagined tracks, the unstoppable production duo of Honey Dijon and Luke Solomon takes on the iconic 'APT. 2A,' originally released by Burrell as N.Y. House'n Authority. Their reimagining of this legendary piece is a celebration of the past, present, and future, encapsulating the enduring legacy of Nu Groove.

Review: The ninth volume of Collective Process sees Soma bring together new, exciting talent from across the spectrum. BENKLIFA's "Double Sektion" is a barrelling percussive techno track. Led by cavernous kicks and featuring coruscating riffs, it's brilliantly executed peak-time material. Oliver Deutschmann's "Sonntags Im Studio" follows in a similar, slightly more restrained vein, as heavy drums power a linear arrangement. There are some exceptions to this approach - Mist Gasp's "Unclear Skies" is a murky, dense affair and End Train's "Capacity" is an evocative dub techno jam with robotic vocals - but as the intense, splintered rhythm and looped vocal sample of Orion's "Hollow Cause" demonstrate, the main focus of this ninth edition is hard-hitting club techno.

Review: This latest collection from the Night Slugs crew is a great example of why creativity is such a key element in new school bass music, as the great and the good gather for this mind-warping collection of futuristic design. From CalvoMusic & SDOT's emotive bubbler in 'Last Time', to the booming sub pulses of SlickGoHam's 'Stand Up' alongside KayyDrizz and the warm pad textures of 'Night Shift', this project is stuffed to the brim with unique sonic ideas and production mastery. For us, the highlights include the steadily advancing percussion and eerie melodic ideals of SDOT's 'Enkosi', alongside the nostalgia-inducing runs of 'Rain Again', another solid solo effort from Kade Young.

Review: Next up on Blue Hour's label is a split release that focuses on emerging techno artists. Copenhagen's Neri J drops "Child Stay Wild", where reverse vocal samples are combined with dreamy melodies over a high-paced, rolling rhythm. Keeping it at a similar pace, Alpha Tracks' "Treeline" deploys a stripped back approach. Centred on a galloping groove and tribal drums, the arrangement is populated by mysterious sound scapes and an indistinct vocal narrative. Vil & Cravo's "Ripar" goes deeper, as dubbed out chords are fused with robust, steely drums. Rounding off the release is Regent's "Off Agenda" - a return to the territory explored on Neri J's contribution. On this occasion however, clattering percussion and a pulsating bass are combined with introspective synths.

Review: Zombie Recordings continue to raise the dead with their unrelenting new-gen energy and uncompromising sonic vibe. Now six volumes into their Within The Woods VA series, once again they take us to some very strange, dark and twisted places. Highlights include the rough punk-like attitude and pure grit of Damageman & Lundy's 'Redlight', the chest-bashing minimal menace of B-Plexx's 'King Kong' and the unadulterated fizz and fire of Rouman's savage jump-up neck-snapper 'Daddy's Call'. Review: French label Citizens Of Vice, self-described purveyors of "Balearic, disco and house for those of a sleazy inclination", bring us a V/A EP whose six tracks defy easy categorisation. For house lovers, though, the best places to start would be Crooked Man's atmospheric 'Illyrian Song' and Lanowa's disco-infused 'Every Move I Make', while elsewhere, 'Sons Of Dub' is one for wonked-out 5am floors, Offshore & Coen explore nu-disco's leftfield fringes, 'Love Of My Life' from Staccatoman brings the 80s/Italo vibes while Mass Density Human's 'Henry's Theme' starts out in drifty Balearic territory then slowly builds into a thunderous percussion workout.

Review: The fourth instalment of Trance Trax provides a mixture of contemporary artists reshaping classic material from the Hooj Choons vault alongside new material. Fantastic Man lends some contemporary drums and atmospheric stylings to his reshape of Frontier Man's "Express It Thru The Dance". In a similar fashion, the lush melodies of HEO's take on the eternal trance classic "Dream Universe" benefits from tough kicks on Ciaran McAuley's reshape. However, this series doesn't just offer classics: On "Supanova" Jay Farina melds tribal house and evocative Spanish guitar to create a Balearic hybrid. Meanwhile, Hansgod's "Heya" offers up a modern fusion of house and trance, as soaring pads are fused with an acidic groove.

Review: The disco train pulls in with XPRESS Remixes Vol.4 - a compilation featuring four original potential future-classics. Leading with a retro-futuristic rework on "Give Me Your Love" is British DJ and remix expert Dave Lee (aka Joey Negro), infusing some modern flair into an old school gem. Moodena, head of Tropical Disco Records, follows suit with his equally credible remix of Giman & Chic_Ago's "The Job" - adding acid synths and licks of guitar for a fire disco mix. Michael Gray works his magic on "Be Yourself", transforming it into a bass-driven groover, while Russian DJ Scruscru concludes the compilation with a journey through jazz-infused house music in his remix of "Disco Jazzin" by Generoco.

Review: Crosstown Rebels sublabel RebelLION gears up Volume 4 of its SOULS series by presenting four uptempo, deep and moody Burning Man wares. With trippy vocals at play throughout the four tracks here, it's easy to imagine these numbers going down well somewhere in a tech house Texan desert. The deepest of all cuts goes to OMRI with dat "Funk Rhythm" which sits in contrast to the dub Italo tinges of MIMI X FY & Estray's "Robotic Mode". For something slightly more Detroit influenced check out Vini Pastor's "Hypnotized" next to the distorted Roland percussion and hardcore acid of Hoomance & Mili's "Casa Mama".

Review: From the V to the I to the P; three little letters mean such big things for any card carrying junglist. Especially those who follow the good work of OnlyDrums who are revisiting key cuts from their discography and reboosting them with all-essential VIP energy 10AD's album title track from 2022 brings even more string-surged drama with 'High Roller', Vital's 'Fire' hits with even more heat while Decrypt & Inforce's 'Good Time' brings so many good times there's a danger Chic might come and kick your door down! Elsewhere Jhitzu's bullet-busting 'Revive' has an extra twist in the bassline while CXM's 'Voicemail' from 2022 gets an added layer of drama to the mix. Give OnlyDrums a call today!

Review: The eighth volume of Collective Process sees Soma bring together some of techno's finest new talent. Auspex gets the compilation off to a frenetic start on "Sediment". Joining the dots between ghetto and looped techno, it's a tough, effective track. Dolby D & MarAxe's "Combat Kalimba" inhabits a similar space. On this occasion however, the focus is on dense, steely percussion and dense drums. On "Bipping", Elyas & Anta further up the pace with a lean, jacking rhythm. It's not all high-speed thrills though. Rey Brennan's "My Brain Is Mush" is a hypnotic tribal workout, while on "Beskar", Janein conjures up layered dub textures.

Review: It's been a short while since we last heard 1Forty on a grime tip, with this latest four track offering seeing them return to their 140-inspired roots with a collection of serious rave rollers. First up, Avaword & Frost deliver an eskimo-inspired instrumental in '7AM' with a blistering display of intense lyricism. Raybee and Rakjay then switching the vibe to a much more sublow bubbler in 'Where The Bar Is' next. We then jump into 'B.D.B', a serious system rattler provided by Buckley, jam-packed with sizzling subby energy, with Untrodden Grove's 'Abbies Nightmare' original then giving us an overpowering bass bullet to close.

Review: Wondering where that heatwave we were promised is? Look no further... Tribe Of Dub are bored of waiting on the meteorologists to get things right and they've brought their own balls of fire in the form of this super sick VA 'Tropical Heat'. Each track hitting with a differing style of spring in its step, highlights include Speaker Louis and Octo Pi's shimmering skanks on 'Badness Dub', the wobblesome mischief and vibes of T-Kay's remix Tomoyoshi's 'Feel The Sunbeam' and the mind-melting finale from Lowriderz who have tapped into a classic late 90s Ram vibe for their concluding cut 'Deep Style'. Review: Now here's a VA you could take home to your parents. They were probably expecting you to have settled down into a more conventional life than this but it's 2023 and nothing is conventional any more and what could be more fun than sharing your life with the likes of Conrad Subs, Lundy, J.O.E and Pruf? Expect sublime relationship complications throughout; 'Ashes To Ashes' whispers sweet nothings in your ear before slicing it off, 'Value Of Drugs' gets you high on life but refuses to catch you when you fall back down, 'Dimension X' will strip you of your belongings but tell you you're gorgeous. And that's only half of this wonderfully modern romance. Live, laugh and love this EP.
