Ethyene - "Let Love" - (5:40) 113 BPM
Carlo - "The Swindler" - (6:30) 124 BPM
Hotmood - "Magical Flight" - (5:59) 120 BPM Hot
Rees - "The Way You Move" - (5:59) 123 BPM
Review: We may not be able to gather to dance outdoors under a blazing sun or a blanket of stars, but there's no harm in a little musical daydreaming. That's what the latest multi-artist Ravenelli Disco Club release is all about: summery escapism that comes with a big dollop of rush-inducing disco release. Ethyene sets the tone with the colourful boogie-house fusion of "Let Love" - all twinkling synth motifs, echoing percussion hits, thickset grooves and hazy vocal samples - before Carlo raises the temperature via some jazzy deep house heaviness in the vein of Derrick Carter's "boompty" era. Over on side B, Hotmood's "Magical Flight" is a surging, string-drenched disco-house roller, while Rees' "The Way You Mood" is a tooled-up take on what sounds like a classic Philadelphia International cut.

Review: Predictably, Suol has gathered together tracks from an impressive list of deep house producers for this expansive first volume in the Hallo Montag 2018 series. German veteran Ian Pooley sets the tone with the jacking, acid-tinged deep house bounce of "Time", before M Ono shows off his synthesizer soloing skills via the glassy-eyed Balearic house brilliance of "Waffelhaus". Iron Curtis's contribution, "The Further You Look", sounds simultaneously low-slung and gently dreamy (it's a fine combination), while Black Loops doff a cap to the greats of disco-house via the funk-fuelled, sample-heavy stomp of "Is This A Banger?" If you're in the mood for something a bit more bumping, the boompty-inspired stomp that is Carlo's "Lluvia" should be right up your alley.

Review: If you're in the mood for some cross-generational dream house revivalism, you need to get your ears around this collaboration from contemporary Italian producers Dirty Channels and living legend Don Carlos. In its' luscious, EP opening 'Paradise Mix' form, 'Adriatico' boasts the same alluring, colourful and dreamy blend of rubbery synth-bass, snappy machine drums, immersive pads, fluttering flutes and rush-inducing piano motifs that made Carlos's turn-of-the-90s productions so sensational. The trio deliver a similarly delicious, piano-heavy peak-time dub, while Tom Trago reinvents it as an ultra-deep, near techno-tempo stomper and Axel Boman re-imagines it as a pitched-down, acid-flecked slow house bubbler. If you still want more loved-up lusciousness, bonus cut 'Tirreno' will genuinely hit the spot.

Review: For their latest trick, Razor-N-Tape Reserve has decided to breathe new life into 'Agua', one of the standout cuts from Brazilian band Baianasystem's chronically overlooked 2018 album O Futura Nao Demora. Freerange main man Jimpster delivers two wonderfully breezy and life affirming reworks: a fully-formed remix that wraps Antonio Carlos' vocal and splashes of the original's samba-soaked instrumentation (jazz guitars, warming horns, vintage synth sounds and so on) around a tactile deep house groove, and a deeper, dreamier and especially groovy Dub. After that Diego Strausz and JKriv take over, first re-framing the track as an extra-percussive chuck of acid-speckled nu-disco (their remix), before brilliantly stripping back the cut on their disco instrumental style Dub mix.

Review: The latest release on Shall Not Fade's occasional Season Series of EPs comes courtesy of long-established Spanish producer Carlo, whose largely upbeat, escapist dancefloor workouts were apparently recorded in response to "urban seclusion" (lockdowns, basically). There's plenty to admire across the five-tracker, with the Berlin-based artist skipping between bouncy deep house funk ('Sensitive Response'), ear-catching deep synth-pop/deep house fusion (the tactile and spacey 'Where Is Everybody?'), wonky-but-locked-in late-night hypnotism (stand-out 'Noche') and trippy, disco-tinged peak-time sweatiness ('Moving Forward'). The included collaboration with fellow underground hero Retromigration, the ultra-deep 'Earth Two', is also superb.

Review: Bristol's Shall Not Fade presents this awesome DJ mix by label staple Carlo. The Berlin-based producer serves up several of his own jams amongst some of the label's biggest hits (and near misses!) across 12 tracks. Highlights include Cologne's Djoko with the lo-slung minimal of "Lost In Time", Tilman's disco-tined deep house groove "Say Good Bye", as well as the dream team of Marcel Vogel, Alexandre Arslan & Tim Jules serving up some proper late-night mood music on "If You Don't Love" and ending with KaySoul & Gustavo Martinez's sensual and evocative "Africanus".

I'm Steel Here - (6:41) 122 BPM Hot
Azimuth - (6:07) 122 BPM
In The Sky - (5:28) 119 BPM
Review: Italian house original Don Carlos will likely never make a record quite so inspired as his 1991 dream house anthem 'Alone'. Yet he's still capable of delivering high-quality treats in his melodic and colourful style, as this surprise EP for Jimpster's Freerange imprint proves. The undoubted highlight is 'I'm Still Here', where classic dream house motifs - sparkling piano riffs, kaleidoscopic chords, sultry synth-strings and gorgeous counter-melodies - rise above chunky house drums and an arpeggio-driven bassline inspired by Rinder & Lewis's classic electro-disco cover of 'Willie and the Hand Jive'. Elsewhere, Carlos wraps sun-soaked, disco-tinged riffs around a chunky house groove on 'Azimuth', before adding layers of musical emotion to a rolling house groove on the similarly summery 'In The Sky'.

Review: Last spotted on Soul Deep 18 months ago brandishing an entire album - and since appearing on the likes of Liquid Brilliance and In:Deep - Carlo returns to his liquid spiritual home with a quartet of sunset grooves. "Keepin' On" flexes a dreamy vocal over snuggly 100-tog pads and brushed drums, "Sky High" takes the rolling soul vibe even deeper again with a subtle reverse string/key texture while "IfCloudsMadeSounds" lives up to its sky-high breezy, rush-maxed moniker in every way. "Sky In Your Eyes" closes the show on a light, skippy vocal finale. With a Darrison or Stamina-style baritone, delicate pianos and late 2000s style bassline, it's a timeless reminder that not all vocal D&B tracks have to be chart-primed.

Review: Like a bitter blast of icy wind sweeping in from the North Sea, Carlo Ruetz's "Delta Charlie" will leave those who come in contact with it reeling. The title track is a grimy, murky acid affair that is powered by a pulsating bass. On "Purple Sky", haunting trance riffs play out against an undulating groove and ticking percussion, while "Unknown Fairy Tales" sees the fast-rising producer deliver a more uptempo arrangement, this time with a focus on rolling electronic disco. Closing out the release is "The Vision", where Ruetz combines the title track's acid intensity with rolling snares and a foreboding bass.

Review: Toronto's Carlo Lio has been making highly explosive dancefloor bombs for over a decade now, with his passionate take on tech reaching every corner of the globe. Here he returns with one of his most high profile releases yet, Psychout, on none other than Tiga's legendary Turbo Recordings. It's all about the twin turbos here, boasting two tracks for our listening pleasure. The title track is an excellent slice of techy minimal disco; a streamlined and linear digital snake. "All She Wants" meanwhile, is a heavier affair with pulsating Popof-style bass, percolating rhythms and creepy vocal snippets. Lively!

Divided Universe - (6:45) 125 BPM
Resoflash - (6:26) 125 BPM Hot
Review: Carlo Ruetz debuts on Senso with an impressive EP. The German artist, who has previously put out material on Minus, isn't the most obvious choice for the label. Unlike the in-house sound on Oliver Huntemann's label, this release follows a different approach; "Trick" is a wild ride that features a pulsating bass, wild, tweaked acid lines and a pitched down vocal sample intoning the track's title. "Artefact" is also atypical for the Senso style, with rolling, skeletal percussion, tough snares and a spaced out undercurrent. On "Divided Universe", Ruetz moves closer to the Senso approach, with eerie synth lines unfolding over a brooding, menacing bass, but it?s only a temporary divergence and "Resoflash" sees him up the ante to drop a rolling techno workout.

Review: Anyone who releases on Senso will be keenly aware of the fact that they are expected to fill label owner Oliver Huntemann's big (room) shoes. This doesn't seem to bother Carlo Ruetz. Having released previously on Minus, he brings a driving, stripped back approach to dance floor techno on "Hypersonic"; the title track starts off as percussive groove that veers into a throbbing build, while on "Simultan", the German producer goes somewhat deeper, delivering a rolling, dubbed out groove that resounds to a growling bass. It's an assured, effective release, and as the bleep-heavy "Rover" suggests, we're likely to hear more of Ruetz' moody sound on Senso soon.

Review: Oliver Huntemann's label returns with more dancefloor drama from the dark side, by some of the scene's most exciting players on Senso Sounds Level 04. French techno producer Bruno Demoeugeot aka Citizen Kain teams up with STAB Virus on "Torium" which ticks all the right boxes for a Senso track: doom laden pads, dark chords, steely rhythms and grinding arpeggios - all compressed into one big, brooding package. German producer Carlo Ruetz cuts to the chase on the aptly titled "Sky's Black" (and strips things back while he's at it) on this tunnelling and sinister epic. Finally, man of the moment Dubspeeka continues on with an impressive streak of releases on International Deejay Gigolo, Knee Deep In Sound and Get Physical recently - the cavernous, bass heavy tech house of "Aakash" further cements his status

Review: With releases already notched up on labels like Sci & Tec, Intec and Suara, Carlo Lio now drops a killer EP for Truncate. The title track is a heads-down affair, featuring a hypnotic vocal sample looped over a jacking rhythm and lead-weight kicks. The dub version ventures in a similar direction, albeit without the vocal. On "Freaky Bitches", Lio wears his love of ghetto techno openly, as a primal groove and insistent hi hats make for a relentless, stomping track. In contrast, "The Question" sees the Canadian producer drop a repetitive, stab-heavy workout that is powered by tough kicks and resounds to incessant vocals.

Review: While some of the material reissued on Emotional Rescue will be familiar to Baelaric and kosmiche crate-diggers, it's likely that few will have heard of Carlos Cataia's Orquesta. Written, produced and released in Argentina way back in 1985, it sees noted keyboardist Cutaia - ably assisted by producer pals Alejandro Oucinde and Oscar Dominguez - joining the dots between quirky synth-pop, post-boogie space funk, Berlin-School ambience, and the kind of dreamy, chugging fare that would now be described as "Balearic". It's more than a little eccentric, but contains a slew of brilliant cuts, including the weirdo space-pop of "Operativo", and the tape delay heavy piano ambience of sublime closer "Aproximaciann Uno".

He appears here for Osunlade's esteemed Yoruba imprint for more quality grooves that we'd describe in the words of fellow city legend Joe Claussell as 'spiritual life music'. Starting out in very deep and soulful fashion with the emotive "Bang It" and "Deep Forever More" (featuring elevating chord build ups and sleek rhythm programming), he then gets down with some sexy and slinky tech house for the late shift on "Elegba".

Review: With summer fast approaching, Suol has decided to get ahead of the game with an EP chock full of sweltering, sun-kissed deep house treats. Atjazz kicks things off with the rich chord progressions, lilting synthesizer melodies and bouncy drums of sunset-friendly shuffler "Programme Sunlight", before label regulars Chopstick and Johnjon serve up the similarly positive and breezy "Last Night". Elsewhere, Matthias Vogt cranks out the languid, life-affirming pianos and blissful electronics on Balearic house gem "Chanterelle", M.Ono delivers a loved-up twist on loopy disco house, and Carlo drops a chunk of bumpin', bass-heavy goodness blessed with sun-bright guitar flourishes. Review: Hailing from Rostock in Germany, Carlo Ruetz is one of the most exciting and intriguing names in electronic music today. With his DJ sets already rated by techno aficionados for over a decade, his debut LP in 2013 placed him firmly in the spotlight. There was no real plan for Ruetz on his new EP. "I often sit in the studio for a long time and try many things out. This is the origin of most ideas - every producer knows that." The works were created in his head, then those ideas were worked out in the studio. Then last year, at the Amsterdam Dance Event, he talked about demos with Minus' Matador: who asked him if he could give him something for his label Rukus. Without further ado: here it is!

"I'm Gonna Make You Love" is trippy, dreamy and epic deep house smothered in layers of mesmerising strings and pads and some soulful male house vocals. Detroit legend Niko Marks is back too it seems; he's teamed up with Carlos Nillmns on "The Night Not To End" featuring the the thought provoking spoken word poetry of Keter Darker (the new Gil Scott Heron some Chicagoans say!) over a seriously dusty deep house jam. Delayed vocals and tough basslines drive "Black Freddie's Moustache" while on the title track and "Bank 16" low end pressure remains at the forefront of your attention, but this time layered alongside more mysterious synth lines and twisted vocals. Here he continues to make waves via a first appearance on Pontchartrain and Laurin Fedora's Lovedancing label. 'Rabia Y Miel' is a tougher slab of organ-rich deep house of the sort that used to emerge from New Jersey and Italy in the early 1990s, while 'Humble Pie' wraps a sweaty, sub-heavy bassline in energetic house breakbeats and jazz-fired electric piano motifs. Finally, 'Despues De Nunca' sounds like a heady, sunrirse-ready update on the Italian dream house sound with added jazz guitar licks.

Review: On the evidence of this collection of original material and remixes, it sounds like Sanchez and Ray have nailed a sound and stuck to it. While their take on Jose Armas's "Travieso" has some techy chords and the odd screechy riff, the main approach here is drum-heavy, loopy house. Original material like "Bandera Blanca" and the duo's version of Funkwerkstatt's "Standwaage" are underscored by irresistible vocal samples and subtle filters. But it's not all DJ tool tracks: on "Koh Samui", they show that there are other influences at play as snappy percussion and infectious one-note bleeps ensure that they don't get stuck in a tool house rut.

Fabiolous Barker - "The Expert" (Fabiolous Funka-Master-House) - (5:17) 104 BPM
Review: Ganbatte's latest affair may be all-star affair, but Fabiolous Barker rightly takes top billing thanks to delivering two takes on his latest track, "The Expert". He opens the EP with a hybrid electro/disco flavoured "Old Skool Re-Master" full of whispered vocals, crunchy guitars, throbbing synth-bass and tight horn blasts, before returning at the end with a "Funka-Masta-House" version that underpins the music with a head-nodding house style beat. In between you'll find the bouncy, Hi-NRG era Latin disco-house insanity of Dim Zach's "La Habernaro", the dreamy harmony vocals and ear-pleasing nu-disco grooves of Carlos Gatto's "Call It Love" and the alien funk masterclass that is Don Dayglow's "Gotta Say Yes", a suitably throbbing revision of an old Yello favourite.

Don Dayglow - "Tour De Trance" - (7:50) 123 BPM
Review: Here's an EP that might ruffle a few feathers... the four tracks are all re-edits of classic Kraftwerk cuts, and there'll no doubt be many purists out there who'd say that was a job that didn't really need doing, but generally speaking the four producers concerned have done a pretty good job. Dim Zach's 'The Super Model (Dub)' nudges ahead of the pack, while Gatto's progressive house-leaning 'Computer Love (Vocal Mix)' is probably the most radical in approach. But the other two reworks from Fabiolous Barker and Don Dayglow are also perfectly serviceable, so if you dig Florian, Ralf and co and can get past the "sacred cows" thing, check it out.

Review: Fabiolous Barker's London-based Ganbatte bring us a second collection of Kraftwerk re-edits/remixes/reworkings, following on the heels of 'Pt 1' a few weeks ago. What we said then still applies: there'll be plenty of Kraftwerk lovers who'll tut, shake their heads and mutter darkly that this should never have happened, but those involved have all made a decent fist of things, so they'll just have to live with it! Barker's 'Computerized Love' is the more radical of two reworks of 'Computer Love' but the standout to our ears is Dim Zach's 'The Super Model', although that's possibly because it's not really that different from the original...

Voyeurhythm EP 3
Benjamin Sun - "Salty Tears" - (7:27) 114 BPM Hot
Monte Carlo Interchange - "Speedway 75" - (5:57) 123 BPM
Review: Australian born, London based producer Benjamin Sun follows up his superb efforts on the first two Voyeurhythm releases with "Salty Tears", a delicious slice of piano-driven old school house. Featuring a lovely vocal snatch and shuffling percussion, this is best described as one of those tunes that has people rushing to the DJ booth to find out what the hell it is; it becomes an old favourite the very first time you hear it. Flip over for ''Speedway 75'' from Monte Carlo Interchange, a spacey disco odyssey containing just the right mix of analogue bleeps, claps and synth squiggles. Already a firm favourite in the record bags of disco/house cognoscenti Tiger & Woods, San Soda, The Revenge, Bill Brewster and Jacques Renault, this is a killer.

Trexor - (4:46) 138 BPM
Review: Carlos Sicrock continues to map out new possibilities for electro, as this high-quality release shows. "CSP-1" incorporates haunting vocals into a robust, angular rhythm, while on the title track, he deploys cold snares and grainy bass as the backdrop for dreamy synth sequences. In contrast, "Jungles" is a slower, more melancholic affair, with Sicrock conjuring up evocative textures over a stepping rhythm. "The Hermit" sees the Barcelona producer venture farther down this introspective route, with subtle drums acting as the guide for the kind of spine-tingling melodic sequence you'd normally associate with Lost Trax. "Traxium" is more pared back and revisits the gritty funk of "CSP-1", closing the loop on this fine EP.

Venerda - (7:08) 122 BPM
Sabato - (6:24) 122 BPM Hot
Domenica - (8:01) 120 BPM
Review: Carlos "Carlo" Alvarez returns to Good Ratio Music for the first time since 2015, and this time he's got company. All three tracks on Intermission were co-produced by Black Loops, a Berlin-based Italian who has previously released solo material on Toy Tronics and Gruuv. All three cuts here are rich, loose and funk-fuelled, with the duo doing their best to combine carefully chosen disco and jazz-funk samples with their own beats and basslines. The real killer is arguably "Venerdi", in which swirling strings and clipped guitars ride a loose-but-bumpin' disco-house groove. If you're after something altogether deeper, check the clicking drum machine percussion, gentle chords and bubbly electronics of closer "Domenica".

Review: New project from the renowned Smugglers Inn radio podcast on the "myhouseyourhouse" web radio station! Run by none other than Red Rack'em, the man has put together four seriously talented house producers to represent the show's global aesthetic. Deep house talent Carlos Nilmmns kicks things into motion with "N'oublions Pas", a disco-filtered bass line driving some incredibly shuffling percussion; while Tommy Rawson takes things down a notch on "Shy Track", hypnotising vocals treading wearily beneath gorgeous chords. Franklin De Costa's part comes in the form of a monstrous 303-reminiscent hymn, the aptly named "Acid Test Bass", making this one a true dance floor burner and leading the way for Ajukaja's "Slim Ja Part" to ties things off in style - soft drums and chi-town melodies taking us deeper and deeper into the Smugglers Inn world.

Review: For a big percentage of Progressive DJs, vocals can be a hit or miss affair.. Which is a case that will no doubt divide opinion on this offering from Spanish pair Carlos Rus and Blas Marin. The topline from Lerene has been done many times before (notably in nasty happy hardcore tracks), but they commendably manage to bring something new on this take and a winning remix from Danny Leblack strips things back to just the right level while keeping plenty of energy and interest flowing with the deep rolling bassline, vox chops and clean cut beats.. Give it a chance!!

Lead cut "City Lights" kicks off with some deep and melancholic bassline house next to some moody techno reminiscent of early Ben Klock in "10247". "The Clap" delivers some footwork inspirations next to some spookier electro wares in "Neophile" - banging. "Pisecean" gets all breakbeat and new age in the mix alongside some warehouse techno in "Regular Disturbances" alongside some melodic 'Mathew Johnson' inspired sounds in "Old Paris". Closing out the EP is "What" - a British Murder Boys-esque slice of Middle Eastern themed gothic EBM.

Taking the title 'Connected_01', we see a truly vibrant collection of artistry on display, from the morning-dew-inducing textures of Bex & LOOR's 'Feels', to the intense drum skips and latin vocal sample swipes of 'Proto' from Portway and unique processing methodology of Joey on 'Whut 4'. The whole LP just exhales refreshing ideas, with the feeling of originality running strong throughout the mainframe. Our highlights include the slower paced percussive patterns of Leese's 'Tyd', next to the carnival-ready bass roars of 'Duhh' from Jason Code and more wind-inducing metallic taps of 'Delos' from Destrata.

Review: The fifth instalment of this series is a reminder of the impact that KMS had on dance music . Right across the spectrum, Kevin Saunderson's releases shaped the future. A case in point is Esser'ay's "Forces", one of the KMS owner's many pseudonyms. The track's use of rumbling sub-bass and booming vocals proved influential in both garage and drum'n'bass - and it still sounds fresh. Part 5 features other similar landmark tracks. "Just Want Another Chance", a Saunderson project as Reese, retains its eerie, otherworldly sensibility despite the passage of over three decades. However, it's not all about looking to the past. The evergreen "Rock to the Beat" is remodelled here by Smith & Selway, setting it in a brooding, pulsating direction.

After opening with the previously unreleased brilliance of Jacy's "Resounding Seashell" - the kind of cut that deserves to be played at languid, laidback afternoon pool parties - the Dutch duo variously serves-up sought-after gems (Leo Anibaldi's Larry Heard-esque "Universal"), humid and intoxicating early morning anthems (the tribal chants, kaleidoscopic chords and New Jersey organs of Green Baize's "Tramp Heart"), early ambient house anthems (Deep Blue's "Deep Blue (The Inner Part of Me)") and stone cold classics (Don Carlos's "Overture").

Paradise On Earth 01 Mexico (continuous mix By Patrick Topping) - (1:18:07) 126 BPM
Review: Two heroes of the new breed kick off a new mix series for Jamie Jones' esteemed Hot Creations imprint. Jones began Paradise at DC10 (Ibiza) five years ago and it's gone on to be a huge success, inviting the biggest names in the business to come play alongside his crew of residents. The first mix is courtesy of Toronto's Nathan Barato, a frequent collaborator with local heroes such as Carlo Lio and The Junkies and whose career has been on the rise with releases on Cajual, Saved, Circus and Defected. Highlights include the Derrick Carter classic "Where Ya At?" (Mix Originale), Makam's brooding "Loleatta" and Jared Wilson's rusty acid odyssey "Girl, I'm Waitin". UK talent Patrick Topping this year completed his third summer as resident at DC10 in Ibiza for Paradise. Here Topping showcases the sound and style of his sets with high energy from the word go. His mix features several of his own productions guaranteed for maximum dancefloor impact, as well as Metaboman's lo-slung and exotic "Next Please" through to Dave Clarke's massive remix of Jark Prongo's "Movin Thru Your System".

Various - "Late Night Tales: Khruangbin" (continuous DJ mix) - (1:07:46) 116 BPM
Review: For the uninitiated Khruangbin is a three-piece band outta Texas formed of Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald Johnson on drums. Taking influence from 1960s Thai funk - think surf rock, psychedelica and Tarantino soundtracks - their name literally translates to "Engine Fly" in Thai. With a storied history so far with a bevy of albums on Late Night Tales sister label Night Time Stories, including this year's Mordechai LP, the trio have earned their right to contribute to the much loved LateNightTales mix series. With their cover of Kool & The Gang's "Summer Madness" an exclusive feature of the mix, you'll also find their number "A Calf Born in Winter' included in Bonobo's LateNightTales contribution from a years ago now. Across Khruangbin's selections most interestingly though is their global bent of taste that takes in Asian pop and Nigerian reggae to Latina inspirations, Hindi-disco and South Korean rock to an atmospheric banjo rendering of Erik Satie's 'Gnossienne'. Highly recommended.

Late Night Tales: Floating Points (continuous mix) - (1:17:29) 80 BPM
Review: The latest instalment in the long-running 'Late Night Tales' series has been curated by experimental beatsmith and jazzbo Floating Points. Sarah Davachi's opener 'Untitled' sets the tone: essentially seven minutes of a single modulating synth chord, it's an early warning that this is no cobbled-together collection of 'chill-out' tunes destined for Top Shop's in-store soundsystem, but instead a journey to some of downtempo music's more far-out fringes, where you'll find straight-up soul and jazz nestled up alongside 70s agit-folk, flotation tank ambience, experimental electronica and more. It might all be a little dense and daunting for the uninitiated, but Floating Points fans will lap it up.

Dark Comedy - "Without A Sound" (Long ''White Label'' version) - (9:59) 129 BPM
Review: You'd expect a compilation curated by open-minded DJ/producer Hunee to be eclectic in nature, and Hunchin' All Night is just that and more. Marketed simply as "a collection of his favourite dancefloor cuts from the '70s until modern time", the compilation set is packed with obscure and inspired jams in a variety of styles. Compare, for example, the gentle but tribal rhythms and new age synthesizers of Carlos Maria and Nuno Canavarro's "Blue Terra" with the glistening, mid-80s Balearic jazz-funk brilliance of Stanislas Tohon's "Owhaaou" (as re-edited by French digger Raphael Top-Secret), or even the Clavinet-heavy Highlife brilliance of Pat Thomas's "Yesu San Bra Disco Hi Life". And that's before we get to the acid-flecked techno madness of Villa Abo and Hunee's wonderfully dreamy and dubbed-out pulse of Mappa Mundi's "Trance Fusion".

Review: Oliver Huntemann's Senso Sounds label out Hamburg drops its best frequencies of the year for its annual round up. Large, heavy and progressive as f***, Andre Winter & Heerhorst go deep in "Time-Out", next to the likes of Marco Resmann, Citizen Kain and Timo Maas! The always groovy Timid Boy lands with the stripped back "The Force 2020" alongside Carlo Ruetz' synth heavy "Purple Sky" and Maksim Dark's bassline-centric "Energize". Huntemann himself turns in a minimal beat turned arpeggio-driven epic in "Tranquilizer 2.0" with Raul Facio, BOHO and Frankyeffe keeping it real with their stadium/club-ready numbers. Hats off the kick drum of "Maximizer". Sens-sational.

Review: Over the last two decades, Niko Marks has been responsible for a wealth of evocative, musically rich deep house and techno, most of it released on ultra-limited CDs via his U2X Productions label. Here, he rejoins fellow Detroiter Carl Craig's Planet E imprint, some 14 years after releasing his sole EP for the imprint. Day of Knowing is typical of his work. Featuring his impeccable, jazz-fuelled keys work, the album's nine tracks smoothly fuse elements of deep house, Motor City techno, soul, and jazz-funk. As a result, it's a wonderfully warm and musically rich collection, jam-packed with the kind of material capable of moving the heart, feet and head.

Review: To celebrate notching up ten years in the game, London blog and party-turned-record label SlothBoogie has decided to offer-up their most ambitious release to date: an epic collection of previously unheard cuts from a mixture of imprint regulars and like-minded friends. There's naturally plenty to set the pulse racing throughout, with highlights including the sparkling jazz-funk-meets-deep house sunshine of Levan's "U R Beautiful In The Face", the deep, breakbeat-driven dreaminess of Philippa's "That's What I Mean By Free", the piano solo-heavy disco-house bump of Leatherette's "Your Love", and the dub disco-meets-acid house heaviness of "Rewind Run" by Pablot. Throw in similarly impressive contributions from Kassian, Luvless, Casino Times and Soul Wun (the classic jazz-house of "Thank You, St Germain") and you have a must-have collection.
