Review: Next up on Laurent Garnier's label is a split release that explores the deeper end of house and techno. DJ Deep is up first with "What's Going On". Powered by raw, tribal beats and featuring lush pads, it sounds like the veteran house head's tribute to Joe Clausell's organic sound. Avision's "Hold No Groove" is also inspired by house music, but on this occasion, Chicago rather than New York is referenced. Combining a snaking bass with busy, layered percussion, the result is mesmerising. Deetron ups the tempo but maintains a deep sound on "Pulse", its musical but insistent rhythm recalls classic Kenny Larkin.

Review: As the title suggests, this quietly impressive compilation draws together the "best bits" of Johannes Kolter's KOLTERCAMP imprint, a digital-only label he's long used as a vehicle for his own productions. In some ways, it feels like an introduction to the Cologne artist's work - or one side of it, at least (he also has the more rugged KOLTRAX series and guest releases on other labels). Highlights include the Alicia Myers-sampling disco-house chunkiness of 'Be Real', the insanely funky, P-funk sampling US house bump of 'Get Sexy', the sun-splashed jazz-house deepness of 'Duke', the effortlessly soulful shuffle of 'Sunny Days' and the spacey deep house wonder that is 'Let You Go'. An impressive collection of Kolter cuts all told.

There are two takes on previous single 'Feel Like Dancin': an extended deep house take by Malik Hendricks with added Afro-house percussion, and an impressive low-tempo chugger titled the 'Generalisation Dub'. 'B.D.F.Q' also comes in two contrasting variations: the spacey electro-meets-ghetto-house flex of the Jubilee Remix, and an extended version of FSQ's Midnight Magic style neo-disco interpretation. A percussive and joyous J Kriv house revision of 'Our Hearts Didn't Go That Way' completes a fine package.

Review: Here's something we didn't expect: a Nu Groove label debut from original breakbeat-house hero - and for a long time Layo's right-hand man - Matthew 'Bushwacka' B. Sonically it makes perfect sense, though, because the four cuts on show seem to have been inspired by the label's glory days in the late '80s and early '90s, as well as vintage UK deep house. 'Strictly Nu' is a rolling, sweat-soaked builder smothered in dreamy chords and underpinned by rubbery, oscillating synth-bass, while 'Love Can You' joins the dots between the Burrell Brothers and glassy-eyed warehouse dancefloors at 5am. 'Right Now' sees him blend his own funk-fuelled breakbeat-house rhythms with fluttering flute solos, loved-up vocal samples and warm chords, while 'True For You' is as gorgeous as it is tough and peak-time ready.

Review: Volume 7 in the series but for once we can't really say "you should know what to expect by now" because what this compilation really goes to show is just what an eclectic and diverse camp the long-running Manchester label has become, with tracks on 'Paper Cuts #7' ranging from the near-ambient Balearica of Aniso Tropics' opener 'Apricot Memorex' to the self-explanatory synth-y stylings of La Guardia de la Luz's 'Trance Aleman de los 90s' via the uptempo strut of Jahn Solo's 'Disco'. So all we can really do is point you in the direction of some standout cuts, which for this reviewer would include D.S.D's luscious 'Just Can't Stop' and Benny Pitcher's 'Transatlantic Motion', which is like a little musical nod to the days when Paper comps were called 'Splinter'.

Together they serve up two tracks that draw heavily on 70s Afro-funk for inspiration, with 'Faith' coming with a slightly mellower remix courtesy of Medlar & Dele Sosimi while 'San Diago' gets two rerubs, with Rahaan giving the track a slightly jazzier, more leftfield makeover while Prins Thomas's Diskomix transforms it into a slab of percussive, slo-mo disco. Review: Giuseppe Tuccillo enjoyed a fruitful 2023, with his solo outings on Nu Groove, Melodeum and Kaoz Theory being amongst his greatest releases to date. For his first missive of 2024, the long-serving Italian producer pops up on his own House of Tucci label with a predictably impressive three-track offering. Tuccillo begins with 'Talk To Me', a kind of ultra-deep, rubbery and bass-heavy fusion of hypnotic mid-90s NYC house and early '90s Italo-house, before unfurling the bustling, hard-to-pigeonhole, Afro-cosmic-goes-house elasticity of 'Attention'. It's genuinely inventive and infectious, as is closing cut 'Magari', where Tuccillo wraps deep, filtered synth sounds, airy vocal snippets and tactile electronic motifs around a boogie-influenced drum track.

Review: Oliver Dollar, a Berlin-based artist who first appeared on Rekids as a remixer in 2012, has returned to Radio Slave's label with his 'Strings for Life' EP. The EP's title track begins with rich and stirring strings that add soul to the track. The song is warm, euphoric, and built on a rocksteady disco groove, making it both familiar and classic. 'School Daze' is a loopy track with funky bass, jazzy chords, and timeless house drums topped off with a retro vocal sample. The EP's final track, 'Sophisticated Funk,' features an epic, emotive beatdown, and Dollar doubles down on the disco. Oliver Dollar brings a very different sound to Rekids with this EP, which is full of joyous and lush tunes.

Review: St Petersburg's own disco don Sunner Soul returns with three more predictably high-calibre slices of contemporary disco. The EP opens with the sumptuous, lounge-y and aptly titled 'Late Night Vibes' with its dreamy female vocal, chorus'd "oohs" and lavish strings. 'Right Place' then joins the dots between deep house, filter disco and 80s boogie in a most pleasing fashion, before finally we come to the slightly housier 'Something Good' with its rich, warm bassline and sampled chunks of interview dialogue with the mighty Tupac. What the EP doesn't have, you might argue, is any obvious peaktime calls to the dancefloor, but that's a good thing... this is for the headz!

Review: Throughout their decade-long career, Alma Negra has combined their love of disco and deep house with percussion, instrumentation and ideas excavated from African, Caribbean and tropical musical cultures. On this EP, they largely ditch the latter inspirations, instead delivering full-throttle revivalist disco sounds where the Basel-based band's organic instrumentation and vocals combine with colourful synth sounds and heady horns. The headline attraction is undoubtedly 'Madrugada', a warming and thickset, subtly deep house-influenced take on the turn-of-the-80s NYC downtown disco-not-disco sound. It comes backed with two revisions - an extra-percussive, dubbed-out Yuksek tweak and the band's own dub disco-goes-deep house 'Dub Mix' - and the riotous, party-starting brilliance of 'Funky Fever'.

Review: Following a two-year gap in which he focused on his House Puff and Rutilence labels, Parisian house stalwart DJ Steaw returns to Kerri Chandler's Kaoz Theory imprint. The three original cuts on show are prime Steaw: rock-solid, high-grade house workouts full of audible nods to the halcyon days of US house in the nineties and early noughties. The headline attraction is 'Get Back To The Fonk', a bumpin', spacey and tactile chunk of peak-time ready deep house haziness blessed with plenty of percussive funk. Kaoz Theory regular Josh Buttler remixes, opting for a more loose-limbed rhythm track, echoing melodic snippets and cut-up, garage-style vocal samples. Elsewhere, 'In My House' is an organ and synth-sax-sporting slab of '90s New Jersey nostalgia and 'Don't Stop' is gently acid-flecked deep house hypnotism.

Review: Frits Wentink continues his productive partnership with Wolf Music Recordings, one which is now entering its 11th year (an eternity in dance music terms). 'Club Land', the title track from the Dutch producer's first EP of 2024, is a nostalgic and wide-eyed affair, whose sparkling piano riffs, bumpin' house beats, mazy synth solos and rubbery bassline sit somewhere between Frankie Knuckles and MK productions of the mid 1990s. There's also a slightly jazzier and more US garage-influenced 'Alternate Mix' that boasts some rather addictive organ stabs. As the EP progresses, he opts for a deep, dubby and trippy sound on 'Crowd Control', before doffing a cap once more to vintage NYC and NJ deep house on superb closing cut 'Run Run Slow'. One of his best for a while and that's saying something!

Review: Dombrance has spent the last few years making music inspired by imaginary French politicians of the 1960s, '70s and '80s. To round of the project, he's pitched up on Discolypso to share the final two tracks - and a wealth of remixes. 'Bayou' is a certified throb-job in which alien-sounding synths and heady vocalisations rise above a pulsating, Italo-disco groove, while 'Cope' is a darker, techno-tempo workout rich in analogue electronics and driving grooves. There are too many remixes to mention them all, but our picks include Lindstrom's breezy, electrofunk-influenced Norse disco take on 'Bayou', Baldelli and Dionigi's hybrid dub disco/Afro-cosmic take on the same track and Francois K's suspenseful, stretched-out, slow-build revision of 'Cope'. Throw in a deliciously druggy, Italo-disco-goes-rave revision of the same cut by Diskjokke, and you have a genhinely brilliant package.

It's both uplifting and functional. Review: It's been quite a journey for Nicolas Blistene and Kate Elsworth AKA Lunar Disco, who initially emerged from the Parisian house scene before relocating to Australia some years back. Here they deliver their highest profile release to date, landing on Crosstown Rebels with the moody-but-rubbery 'Devil's Hands'. Their original mix is undeniably intoxicating, with Elsworth's atmospheric lead vocals rising above bouncy beats, moody electronics, Spaghetti Western guitar licks and warm bass. They join forces with TAYA to deliver their own deep, wonky, stripped-back and mind-mangling tech-house club mix, while Luciano delivers a spacey and heady tech-powered take. Best of all, though, is Anthony Middleton's revision, which makes superb use of some twisted TB-303 'acid' lines and ghostly melodies.

Review: The MPH wave is well and truly underway as he makes his return to the incredibly impressive Night Bass imprint for a full length LP adventure. Having already released numerous heaters on the LA-based label, it's very exciting to see everything arranged in one single place. Opening up the project we firstly explore '-Sunset-', a gorgeous retro soundscape focussed on fluttering synthetic crunches, which leads us into nostalgic vocal doubles and sweeping reeses of 'Doubt' as the project really kicks off. Next, 'Ghost' lets fly a ferocious display of powerful drum processing and warbling bass tones, with the gnarly reese drives of 'Rush' alongside Cecilia then giving us a serious rave stomper. We then get soulful twist up as the fabulous vocal overlays and purple synthetic backdrops of '-Sunrise-' are unleashed, with the fluttering chord progressions and shuffling shakers of 'California' arriving with just as much vim. Finally, 'R&R' sees Hamdi arrive for a typically classy collaborative effort, seeing the LP out with beautiful harmonic grooves and a bassline like no other!

Review: Although the first instalment of Larry Heard's 'Vault Sessions' series of EPs featuring rare and hard-to-find material specifically showcased tracks he produced in 1988, there's no rigid concept behind this sequel - but plenty of must-have gems from the deep house legend's bulging archive. The EP opens with 'The Time Is Now (Old School Mix)', a Heard-produced Felicia Williams single of old that's typically deep and sensual, before the Chicagoan offers Jordan Fields and Kevin Elliot's Club Zanzibar New Jersey-inspired 1995 dub of 'Premonition of Love'. Elsewhere, 'Andromeda Dub' sees Heard meld deep house, dub and sci-fi synth sounds, while DJ Mel's revision of all-time-classic 'Mystery of Love' is a rolling, percussive treat.

Review: While he never went away, it would be fair to say that DJ Sneak has enjoyed something of a career revival of late. This EP for Phonogramme follows strong recent outings for Heist Recordings, Hard Times and Toy Tonics. He begins in pleasingly bouncy and percussive mode on 'Let It Go', where warming stabs and hushed melodic motifs rise above a Kenny Dope style bumpin' house beat and deep, rich bass, before opting for a wonky, mind-mangling sound on title track 'Galactic Funk'. The Chicago veteran then gives it to us 'Soft & Ruff' - think rolling, locked-in grooves and slowly evolving melodic loops - while closing cut 'Crashin' Out' is a suitably sub-heavy slab of deep loop-house headiness.

Review: Leeds label Shades of Sound seem obsessed with serving up melodious and colourful music tailor-made for sunny days and humid dancing at dusk. They're at it again on 'Disco Archipalego', a bold and entertaining label debut courtesy of Sydney producer Arp Decco. There three typically sparkling and kaleidoscopic original tracks on display: the mid-tempo, synth strings-laden Balearic piano house-meets-Reverso 68 cheeriness of 'Disco Archipalego', the synth solo sporting piano house-with-acid-bass flex of 'New Life', and the gorgeous 'Breeze', whose snaking sax solos, joyous melodious and chunky TB-303 bassline create a suitably loved-up mood. 'Tech Support' turn 'New Life' into an acid-flecked, sunrise-ready breakbeat house gem, before Joe Morris rounds off a fine EP by giving 'Breeze' a nostalgic, Balearic house-goes-breakbeat re-fix.

Review: This impressively expansive collection from experienced remixer Valique showcases some of the best downtempo and Balearic edits from his popular V's Edits series. There's certainly plenty to get the blood pumping and the juices flowing throughout, from a chugging, ten-minute take on Pink Floyd ('Brickwall') and a pleasingly squelchy take on Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams' 'Lose Yourself To Dance' (here renamed 'Lose Your Elf'), to a chunky dub-house re-imagining of Jimmy Cliff classic 'The Harder They Come' and a loopy, hypnotic, mid-tempo disco-rock revision of T-Rex ('Jewelry'). Throw in party-hearty takes on cuts from Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson and the Beach Boys (an odd but impactful reimagining of 'Good Vibrations') and you have a great value compilation.

Review: Monty Luke's Nightdubbing project on Rekids was designed to showcase the Black Catalogue boss's deep love of dub-infused house and techno. This 13-track album combines previously unheard cuts with nine tracks previously showcased across a pair of EPs of the same name. It's a fantastic set all told, with highlights including the smacked-out electro-dub headiness of opener '40 Acres and a Terrabyte', the extra-percussive deep dub-house hypnotism of 'Bob Molly', the after-hours friendly minimalism of 'Star Storms', the Detroit-goes-dub techno pulse of 'New World/Old Future', the classic dub techno warmth of 'Dark Paradise', and the dub-wise deep house dreaminess of 'Avantgarde Dancehall'. Throw in a handful of tidy ambient and digital dub tracks, and you have a genuinely superb long-player.

Review: Brand spanking new remix package of Ede & Deckert infectious new wave post-punk anthem "Immer" has landed and receives the deluxe treatment with a diverse array of remixers giving their own spin to the tale of lover's emotion! Berlin's Narciss delivers two distinct interpretations, showcasing a fearless approach to emotional peaks with delightful precision, while the Venice Remix busts out some vintage charm, perfect for primetime - oh yeah. A Salford version caters to a more rugged dancefloor environment, let's say, while Cinthie's grassroots house rendition takes it back to basics with a nod to DJ Duke. Review: Given that his Crosstown Rebels label debut, 'Horizon Red', was widely praised as one of the underground club cuts of 2023, hopes are naturally high for Made In Pete's speedy sequel. In its original form (track one), 'Fires' is a burning hot (sorry) blend of moody vocals (and vocalisations), shuffling house beats, rubbery synth-bass and meandering TB-303 acid motifs. He provides a tougher, darker and more after-hours-friendly 'Dub Mix' of his own, while the package also boasts two other revisions: a deeper, dreamier and more loose-limbed rework by UK scene stalwart Bushwacka!, and a deliciously dark, twisted and mind-mangling tribal house-goes-acid rework courtesy of Victor Calderone and Mykol.

Review: There has been some excellent material released by Nu Groove since the long-dormant NYC label was reborn a couple of years ago, though this EP from Ibiza-based Italian Guiseppe Tuccillo may well be the best yet. It starts on a warm, deep and spacey-sounding flex with the rubbery 'Sunshine City'. 'It's Not Over' sees him join the dots between rolling, mid-90s NYC house and classic Italo-house, while 'Let's Do It' is a slightly slower slab of swirling house retro-futurism. Three quality club cuts for those who like their house to be as addictive as it is classy.

Review: Two recent cuts from Russian disco don Alexander Chebankov, better known as Sunner Soul, get handed over to fellow St Petersburg native Unclepasha - whose musical CV dates back to the early 00s - for the remix treatment. His take on 'Right Place', which first appeared on last month's 'Something Good' EP, tones down the boogie and jazz-funk influences of the original and ends up deeper and smoother as a result. Conversely, he's kept the boogie stylings of 'Need You' (taken from February's 'Da Funk' EP) intact and arguably even emphasised them, in a dubbed-out remix that gets distinctly Levan/Peech Boys-esque in places.

Review: When it comes to crafting lengthy, disco fired dancefloor treats, DJ Koze has previous form. His "Extended Disco Version" of Lapsley's "Operator" quickly became a White Isle anthem in the summer of 2016, and we fully expect "Pick Up" to be one of the disco-house hits of 2018. Based around spine-tingling samples from a heart-felt, orchestrated 1970s disco treat - think Tom Trago's "Use Me Again", and you're close - the veteran producer slowly builds the pressure before really letting loose in the closing stages. Then "The Love Truck" is an altogether deeper, dubbier and dreamier affair, seemingly designed for leisurely warm-up sets and gentle, early morning shuffling.

Review: Art of Tones fantastic collaborative EP with live disco-jazz outfit Chatobaron, last year's 'Flight of the Comet', have been given the remix treatment. The EP begins with a trio of takes on 'Ban The Disco'. Crackazat steps up first with a UK garage-influenced deep house revision rich in musical colour, before Bruno Hovart dons his familiar Patchworks alias for a luscious, all-live take that sits somewhere between deep disco, jazz-funk and organic house. If you're looking for a little more energy, check Paul Cut's driving, Rhodes-laden revision of the same track. Elsewhere, the 'Raw Analog Funk Remix' of 'Pendant Ce Temps La A Vera Cruz' is a languid, warm and richly organic deep house treat, while Tiurbojazz's take on 'Flight of the Comet' is a slow-motion, sax and piano-laden head-nodder with added Balearic sunshine.

Review: Contemporary disco with the funk and soul in full effect is the order of the day on this V/A offering from Ravanelli Disco Club. Vigi's opening 'Loving You' comes from the more discofied end of the deep house and garage spectrum and should be a small-hours cert, after which comes Kousto's 'Save My Soul', which marries rolling tribal drums to a looped soulful male vocal, and as such should work on soul and soulful house floors alike. It's then time to get up, stand up as Sauco's aptly-titled 'Twisted Funk' takes us into struttier territory, before finally Donny Rotten brings the 70s-inspired nu-disco vibes with 'Her Way'.

Review: Shabi's DOBRO jams continue with Happy Jams that are undeniably exactly that, much what these times need. Pushing a classic house tip with good vibes pads, sample selections, loops and tricks, Shabi gets '90s old school and French touch in his kicking title track. "Let's Talk Dancin'" offers some similar tricks, holding down a groove with a vocal hook to boot, while "I Feel It Comin'" does something some more soul and R&B. "Disco Party" throws down some classic percussion and a walking bassline while "C'mon Let's Fly" may as well be Fred Falke back in the mix. French house style!

Review: Chinese producer Mr Ho impresses muchly with this release on his own Klasse Wrecks label. '000 Baby' in its Original form is a delightfully diverse concoction that blends ethereal synths, a haunting, lilting female vocal, drums that nod to early 90s street soul, Rastaman shouts, a big fat bassline and, as we get into the second half, lots of pleasing acid squelch. As if that wasn't enough Bristol boy Jim Coles, better known as Om Unit, then gives the track a deep drum & bass makeover that's enough to get the hairs on the back of your neck standing up and no mistake, guv'nor. Top drawer bizniss for sure.

Review: Ostensibly a response to techno being 'in such a sorry and predictable state', Full Pupp's latest compilation goes off in a number of wonderfully captivating tangents. Label owner Prins Thomas' "Mere Apokalypso" is a tripped-out groove, while his take on Synk's "Tool Mix" is an acid-laced chugger. In contrast, JaddajaddaPlay's "Bird No Bird" goes down a percussive route. Despite the title, techno does make an appearance. Blackbelt Engh Rhythm Combo's "Frydenlyn" is a rolling tribal affair, while trance influences bubble to the surface on Christian Engh's dubbed out "Khonsu" and Karolinski's high-paced, melodic "Slutt A Mase Eg Har Ikkje Spelt Pa Ei Veke".

Review: Mancunian DJ/producer Danny Ward aka Moodymanc collaborates with the legendary Diane Charlemagne, whose work you may know from albums by Goldie, Moby, High Contrast and London Elektricity to name but a few. The result is "Take Me Back" on Berlin-based label Exploited, a retro futurist track that's at once deep and soulful. You can bet Ward returns under his trusted Dubble D alias as well, providing some very nice vocal and dub remixes.

Review: First released back in 2019 on Gene On Earth's then fiercely vinyl-only label, Limousine Dream, Local Fuzz hits the shops for all you digital diggers. Coming in at a solid nine-tracks large, the album remains a testament to the producer's sound - all cosmic, slightly electro with some tech house, colour and minimal. One for the Berlin dancefloor devotee, the album lands with its playful opener that sounds as if you're about to enter the artist's own hatchback for a test ride around the block. The album then takes us through a slew of mellow melodies, spaced out drums, percussion, dubby basslines and tight grooves. Bionic beats for real.
