Review: V is for victory! Bryan Gee and Jumpin Jack Frost's label continues to mark three whole decades with the second volume of their 30 Years VA. First up is a VIP of L-Side's already flattening remix of Krust's 'Not Necessarily A Man' before Alibi and A-Audio go toe-to-toe on the soulful bruiser 'Middlemen' where a big funk sample gets battered into submission but an equally stunning Reese. Last but not least Level 2 closes the EP down with another VIP treat - 'Bite The Bone'. Woof woof!

Review: Have played gangsters all summer with Jenks, young jump-up talent ACP whips up a storm on Escalation Sound with 'The Wait'. Crisp and contemporary, each cut is chiselled down to the bare groove bone as he gets twisted in all kinds of gortty and alien ways. 'Bangers' is especially of note as he flexes on a sinewy lazer in an almost trippy and hypnotic way. 'Leg Bender' continues that flavour, too as a teasing dreamy intro drops into a frog chorus that's so greasy you need a shower just reading these words. Worth it.

Review: An sporting tale of collaboration, fusion and football: the TNQ All Stars are a collective of key artists from Lenzman's stable The North Quarter such as FD, Satl, Redeyes and Submorphics (to name but a few). Not credited individually and rolling as one unit, vibing off the moment and each other's ideas, each track took seed in an undisclosed location near where football legends Ruud Gullit and Frank Rijkaard first met. Laced with vocals from key TNQ songsmiths Steo and Fox, the end result is a unique but seamless and fluid set that really shines with the label's spirit. Ranging from the sweetest of soul to much darker, driving roll-outs, this is beautiful story from one of the most inspiring labels active in dnb right now.

Home of legendary acts like Daddy Freddy, Tenor Fly (RIP), Wayne Fire and Papa San, Fashion Records paved the way for the UK jungle movement that would happen just years later, showing people how things can be done with pure DIY innovation. The movement continues as they link up with Jungle Cakes for this exceptional collection of revisions from the likes of Diagnostix, Speaker Louis, Selecta J-Man, Posk, Charlie Kane, Deekline and various other cakey mates. Highlights include Posk's gully twist of 'Massive Horns', Charlie Kane's warped and wonderful take on 'Baba Loo' and Speaker Louis' crisp flip of 'Perdominant'. Review: Simula returns to Neksus, the label he runs with Annix, and gets utterly filthy with two stinking high-grot grooves. 'Bonesaw' takes the lead and lays down a series of disarming wobbles that soon flip into something much spikier and deadly. Need even more twisted agginess? Review: Following massive wallopers from the likes of Sota, Zero, Original Sin and Kanine, Crucast continue to lay down the bigroom D&B law with Formula and it's drama from the off as 'Function' whips up a storm with its brassy stabs and 'Stomping Ground' gets all feet stamping within a 50 mile radius with a similar machine gun style bass riff. Deeper into the EP we glide to find 'Vindicator', a deeper cut laced with more tension and some fantastic rolling breaks on the build. Last but not least 'Gem Shard' closes on a wonky off-key bass croak as ACP joins the party for a last minute face-melter.

Each cut is a highlight but Tweakz and Teej's hyper-tense 'Involved' and Headroom's bulldozer-like 'Gambol' are particularly spicy takes. Essential for all D&B heads.

Review: Spearhead are coming out with a huge compilation that seeks to be a statement of intent for 2020, combining a load of new tracks with some of the choicest cuts from the Spearhead back catalogue. There is old school talent like Need For Mirrors, Bcee, Carlito & Addiction & Saikon, as well as recruits from the new school like Whiney, Black Barrel, Monrroe and Walk:r, all of whom have done a wicked job walking the Spearhead stylistic line between hard and soft. Need For Mirrors' 'Zxana' is the ideal example; it's stripped back and minimalist in its percussion but expansive in the low-frequencies, with a hypnotic feeling of movement and a seriously solid piece of sound design. The rest of the LP is typically epic as well, so shout out to the Norwich crew.

Review: More saucy sounds from Bristol's most brazen lords of the ring. Fresh from revealing their Shy FX remix, once again we find DLR, Smithy and Hyrdo taking things back to the roots: "Kiss The Ring" wraps around you like a well-fitted sovereign, all chunky and unapologetic. "WUT", meanwhile, sounds like the title suggests. A gurgling guffy bassline that scratches it knuckles along the ground while dreamy pads and warm punch drums do all the groundwork. Kiss it!

Review: Following her debut on Hospital earlier this summer ('None Like Me' on Anais's mixtape), Bristol badgyal T-Lex now serves up her debut EP on Escalation Sound. Sickness to the core - and very much in-tune with her bouncy, uncompromising DJ style - T-Lex hits hard with a tasty range of intense sensations. '90 Seconds' is a weapon of mass slammage with its relentless kicks and squelchy bassline while 'Quest' brings on the stark creeper feels. Between these two contrasting poles we're slapped by the cheeky croaker 'Bring It Down', tickled by the hyper-grot of 'Warped' and sent up to bed without any tea on the dark stamps and boggy stomps of 'Sidekick'. Review: Last spotted on The North Quarter way back in 2020, the elusive Anile returns with four powerful jams on LSB's Footnotes. Of course the wait has been worth it, too. Each cut explores a different spot of the ever-expansive drum & bass underbelly; 'Ceremonial' pushes all the right cosmic buttons, 'SiC' is a diesel powered slammer that sits somewhere between Mako and Benny L, 'Flow Chamber' slugs and chugs with well-oiled techno-like techno like thrust while 'Koi Attack' is a razor sharp stepper that wouldn't have gone amiss on Headz in the late 90s. Powerful flavours. Let's hope Anile doesn't leave it so long next time.
