Review: Lion Dub have reached a decade of activity. A decade! To put it in perspective, if someone was born the year Liondub started, they're about to enter high school/secondary school. It's a crazy achievement and one matched by the craziness of the music they have on offer to celebrate, a four-part journey through their past, present and future. This instalment is all about their past and it's exemplified best by Serum's VIP of Sound The Alarm, a Liondub classic, which Serum has flipped into a characteristically badboy, stabbing little roller. The vocals float above in a haze of reggae smoke, whilst the beat pulsates below. Awesome stuff.

Review: Liondub are celebrating a decade of existence and they're doing a three-part compilation series covering the past, present and future of the label. By definition, then, these series' feature plenty of talent from all across the spectrum and time period of the genre. One of our favourite of the 26 cuts is Bou's VIP of Keep Away, a deliciously double-bass infused number that is both funky and heavy, the ideal combination, and he's flipped up the arrangement here with some precisely placed note changes. There are also features from Vital, Euphonique, Dutta, Marcus Visionary and more, with the overall vibe being one of toughness and power. Top stuff.

Review: Even just glancing at the amount of killer collaborators Saxxon's recruited for his odyssey you know this is a huge album: Navi, Coppa, T>I, DJ Limited, AK1200, Jaxx, Blackout JA and Liondub all play a role in this ambitious affair. And that's before we even address the music itself; rollers, slappers and vibers hanging from every corner like ill fitting suits, highlights include the heavily rotated bassline bust up "Rollcall", the trippy tripletty swing, strange buzzes and piano bliss of "Way Back", the woozy soul and fat wobbles of "The Night Before 420", the loose limbed jazz of "The Dopest" and pant swinging bassline slappery of "Wile E Coyote". And that's just the tip of the Odyssey iceberg. Huge respect to Saxxon, this isn't an album, it's a statement and way of life.

Review: Saxxon's "Jungle Odyssey" continues with four more firestarting burn ups. The EP kicks off in earnest with "Way Back". A hook up with DJ Limited, it's one of those holy grail tracks that's hard, soulful, funk and deep all at the same time thanks to a fine tuned bounce on the wobbles and those jazzy chords. Meanwhile "Yo Yo" brings even more wobble and jazz to the mix with a rampant sense of early 2000s funk and the final two tracks bring the MC to the fore; "Ignition" with Blackout JA is a forthright shredder with some incredible distortion and restraint on the bassline while "Roll Through" sees Coppa spitting over a rubber band bassline and subtle mid 90s Headz references. This album is going to be massive.

Review: Liondub have been on an absolute tear recently, with a slew of top-class dancefloor-orientated releases, all of which straddle that urban-edged divide between jungle, jump-up and beyond. Vital has been around for a while now and has more than proven his production ability, this single adds to that and it does so in style. 'Animals' is packed full of dirty stabs, it's bouncy and infectious and carries you with it the whole way through. 'Take Me Home' is similar but even naughtier, with a squelchy back end and a constant sense of penetration and force. Wicked.

Review: Last spotted on their Street Series a few years back Sub Killaz fly across to the east coast for another Liondub link-up. This time on the NYC's International imprint, the west coast duo tear things up with two heavy, direct damagers. "Anthrax" is a paranoid workout based around a wonked-out warped synth and heavily swung triplet beat while "Breakdown" is much more of a rolling punch-up with fat snares, groaning one-note basslines and a whole array of trippy percussive elements on the fills. Break it down.

Review: Toby Ross is unleashing an onslaught over on Liondub with a tight sounding EP. 'Jah' is a dark, moody stepper that doesn't care about rules and certainly doesn't care about feelings. The main bass on this tune oozes quality and packs some serious weight, reminiscent of the Souped Up crew. 'Beyond' is slightly less crazy but it definitely is still on the crazy end, as gargled bass notes inject a whole load of force into the arrangement, whilst a chopped up vocal adds that little extra. Last week they gave us the feisty six-track "Ghetto Blaster" EP, now they're dropped another seismic sixer in the form of "Block Party". Just as forthright and banger-laden as the previous, highlights include the grizzly high end frequencies of "Pussycat", the much deeper steppy clangs and bangs of "Dis" and those sleazy west coast style synth leads on "Culture". Closing with the pure grit and savagery of "Rewind Mi Selecta", whether this is an album or just a massive bundle of tracks dropped on us over the space of a week we're not sure but we've loved this experience. Review: The Liondub crew have always been excellent at unleashing fresh dancehall fire. This latest drop from Capital D is an excellent example of that in action as the devilish vocal tones and grizzly 808 pulses of 'No Time' kick us off with a bang', followed by the rolling trap-style drums and typically bashment-influenced chord stabs of the title track 'Boiling Hot', topped off again by Capital D's instantly recognizable vocal tones. From here, 'Danger Business' utilizes a steel-drum driven instrumental construct, giving us some sunshine singalong flavour, before 'Have Some Fun' gives us the most uplifting creation of them all for the perfect closer. Excellent work!

'Rage'N' hits with an addictive Q&A bassline riff that's so much fun to mix, 'Shaolin' cuts through the mix with real menace and string plucking tension before breaking into a vibrant bassline/synth groove while 'Raw Grooves' gets out the chainsaw and chops down a whole forest with its bassline just for the hell of it. Review: Vital by name, Vital by nature... "Criminal Minds" sees the young UK producer return to the NYC imprint with the start of an exciting new series. Delving deep into a fat sack of gully, each of these cuts rep Vital at his darkest and most uncompromising. "Criminal Minds" takes the lead with a classic vocal sample and a Serum-style naggy bass riff, "Acid Rocker" goes full-on foghorn fire with its big farty turbine bass roars, "Patterns" adds a little late 90s tech danger in the synths before dropping into an absolute sewer bassline while "Recognise" closes the EP with a little trad jump-up craftmanship. Riffy, addictive and laced with just a touch of soul on the vocal. Killer material; being a criminal has never been so much fun.

Review: Dear Diary, today we received a copy of DJ Hybrid's long-awaited debut album Diary Of An International Junglist on Liondub International. It's 20 tracks fat and, as you'd expect from such a prolific and hard working artist, it's well worth the wait. Featuring collabs with the likes of Rider Shafique, Diligent Fingers, Madrush MC, Redders and MC Foxy, there's a lot of next level action to unpack but instant head-slicers include the space age purrs and twists of 'Find Your Way', the menacing darkness and sparse funk of 'Pull Out Ya Piece' and the bouncing and swagger of 'Live For Yourself.' These are just some the many stand-out bangers from an album by one of the scene's most consistent leading lights in the last 10 years. Made for junglists, by a junglist. It doesn't get better than this.

Review: International bass music label Liondub presents the second single taken from DJ Hybrid's forthcoming full length LP titled Diary Of An Everyday Junglist. The full LP has been lovingly crafted by him over the last two years, and features a stunning array of collaborators. The single in question is titled "Diggin Through The Archives" where the Coventry-based producer serves up the main mix, which is an old school flavoured junglist roller featuring the talented Taja on the mic, followed by a handy instrumental version. As a bonus, you are also treated to the emotive darkside stepper "No Way" (2021 remix) calling to mind classic Marcus Intalex.

Review: RISE is on Liondub International and is giving all of us a lesson in how to produce tough, stripped back sonics which carry more attitude than a charging bull. 'Crossbow' is the best example of this, as a no-nonsense drum line penetrates a precisely placed array of gully bass pulls and hair-rising low-frequency pushes. 'Feline' is more classic jump-up, as a potent blast of stabs combine into the type of hands-in-the-air dancefloor action we've come to expect from the genre. Proper stuff.
